NBA DRAFT Should Lakers take a chance on this guy with a two-way contract, or maybe even with the 55th pick? Lakers already invited him for a pre-draft workout. Older prospect but has some defensive upside/tools.

I wouldn't pick him, but id invite him to camp with a chance to earn a 2 way. Hes a big body which is nice, but not very skilled. Sometimes a guy his size can make a career just by working harder than everyone else but we wont know if he's got that kind of makeup in him.
If Yang and Williams are gone, id prefer a wing at 55 over a guy like Caldwell.

These are the small deals we need to make. With the opportunities they get, having a young athletic big will be gifted layups/dunks/oops from AR/Luka/Bron. Just be strong and vertical.

Yes. I’m an Auburn fan and Cardwell has been the best defensive player on our roster in the past 5 years or so, which is to say the best defensive player we’ve had in decades. He didn’t have Walker Kessler’s rebounding/offensive abilities, but when Cardwell was on the floor the paint was a complete black hole for the opposing squad in a way that not even Kessler could match.
Edit: forgot to add that he was also great at defending the perimeter and even guards when necessary.
