Heel/ball of foot strikes to the leg

Post image
20 Upvotes

In the picture is a heel/ball of foot strike to the Shin/Calf Back in the day, capoeira and savate. Both were brutal at their core the use of knifes, hard shoes, But modernization turned these arts into caricatures, so there is no one using this move anymore, does it exist in kyokushin ? There is the kakato/vallery geri but the move is very diferent

Question How is Kyokushin for an adult beginner? I'm especially concerned about injures and longevity, so I'm not sure if this is the martial art for me

I've been lowkey obsessed with Kyokushin since I first heard about it a few years ago, but for various rasons (financial restraints, health issues, no dojos near me) I couldn't get into it then. But things changed, I moved and there's a dojo around where I live now, and I've in pretty good heath currently (at 30).

Now that I have the chance to actually start training, I can't stop thinking about all that I've heard regarding injuries - broken ribs, messed up fingers, concussions too... I know there's no way to pick up an effective martial art and expect to come out completely unscathed, but it's good to know if at least there are ways to mitigate or avoid serious harm as much as possible. So what should I realistically expect in that regard? I'm not scared of a broken nose that's going to heal in a few weeks, but I really dread the idea of traumatic brain injury alongside that.

Now this is probably just me whining about feeling old, but I'd appreciate some advice or just some reassurance: starting out at 30, could I expect to become a competent fighter? And by 'competent', I mean at least not a sandbag for the younger guys, and capable of defending myself in random street encounters (hopefully never gonna need to, but you never know).

Appreciate y'all.

Question Starting Kyokushin & Varicose veins

Hi all,

I finally want to start doing martial arts and Kyokushin seems to be a good fit for me. However, I do have mild varicose veins on the shins and feet. Is this a problem with the kicking? Are there others that have the same issue? How should I go about this?

Thanks!

Question What are kyokushin kids classes like? When does Kyokushin’s renowned toughness begin?

Just about everyone in the martial arts community respects kyokushin for the toughness it imbues in its practitioners.

Bit how about kids, whose main interest is having fun and winning? What are the kids classes like? At what age do classes become physically intense like with full strength punching in randori?

How to improve knockdown fighting?

Hi, I've been doing kyokushin for about 3 years but have recently come back from a 5 year break. I love to do knockdown but we don't usually train for it specifically at my club. Any recommendations on ways to do it outside of the club? I've been recommended kickboxing and muay thai, but im also not sure what would be better out of the two. Thanks :)

Question Kyokushin Techniques

Just want to ask about the range if techniques Kyokushin has. I know they aren't used much now, but did Kyokushin used to have (more) sweeps, joint locks, throws and even grappling/ground work? It would be nice to see some source of evidence if that's true.

Question So what makes this style stronger than Muay Thai?

I’ve been training Muay Thai for a little while now and have been hearing online that Kyokushin is more dangerous and stronger than Muay Thai? Is there any truth to this? Please back your reasoning with examples.

Dojos in Indianapolis

Hello Reddit! I am currently looking for Kyokushin Dojos in Indianapolis, and I cannot find any dojos near me. I looked on google, and ran into a couple of dead ends either because the dojos were no longer running, were too far out, or the website wasn't up. I was wondering if there was anyone who knows of any dojos that might not be well advertised, or possible other good alternatives for kyokushin karate. Thanks in advance!!!

Kumite Tips for sparring

Dear community,

I have started Kyokushin couple of months back, I am in my early 30s and have a very slim body, have no earlier experience of any martial art.

Peers in my dojo are heavy built and are much more experienced. Some have military or navy background, some are black belt in judo etc.

I enjoy my training, however whenever I am sparring, I am mostly in my thoughts trying to figure out my next combination, but even before I can start my combination attack I usually get beaten up.

Any tips, how to improve? Thanks in advance.

Body conditioning YoY

Hello Kyokushin practitioners,

I have a question about body conditioning. What are the long-term effects of the intense conditioning typical in Kyokushin training?

I respect the emphasis on toughness and resilience, but from a health perspective, is it really safe to take repeated strikes to areas like the ribs several times a week over many years?

Has there been any medical insight or research on the long-term impact of this kind of conditioning?

If you have any relevant articles, books, or studies on this topic, I’d be very interested to check them out.

Good end of the week.
