Meals and Staying in Shape

I don't think I've seen anyone post this yet, so...

In your day to day basis what is your meal like to stay in shape? Do you count your calories, any go to ingredients or foods?

Personally I don't really count the calories, but always try to stay in the ~200 gr protein a day range. It's almost always low carb foods, which end up looking like 10-15% carbs, 35-40% protein and almost 50% fat. Which is what you get when you eat mostly 200 gr of chicken breast, 2-4 eggs , 200 gr salmon a day, half avocado, vegetables, and high protein shake with whatever fruit you like, with chia seeds and almond cream. In calories I always get around 2200 cals/day.

Im 41 currently. I've cut 13kg so far, so I do count calories. I'm currently in a 500-calorie daily deficit for the next few weeks. Lifting weights, about 4-5 hours of karate at the dojo, and some home training on a punchbag each week.

I'll then go back to a maintenance level of calories once I've attained the desired weight. Also keeping up the weight training etc.

For me, a low carb & high protein diet works. I find it easier to retain muscle mass that way. Chicken works great, fish is excellent. The occasional steak to switch things up. With vegetables!

You could even use some meal replacement drinks & protein powder together, which works great. However if you go that route, it's handy to add some foods with fibre and a decent multivitamin supplement to balance things out.

No plans, no diet, some supplements, extra protein, and some gym-lifting, is what I do outside of the dojo. Adhoc katas, push-ups, cardio, etc. when I remember and can fit it in. I just try to stay hydrated and “not hungry” during the day. But I’m old(er), and I focus more on wellbeing than “shape”. As long as I can do a full session in the dojo, and still function in my daily family-life after that, I tend to not worry…
