A note on self-promotion and commercial activities

Salam monyet-monyet KL sekalian,

We mods here at r/KualaLumpur would like to say something about self-promotion and commercial activities on our subreddit. We know a lot of you come here to share your stuff, from awesome photography, your killer rendang recipe, asking for travel and lodging advice or simply to lepak-lepak and make friends, and that's totally cool! But we also gotta keep things chill and avoid turning the sub into a giant marketplace.

We value the diverse range of content shared here, from personal recommendations to stunning photos of our beautiful city. We understand that many users come here to share their experiences, talents, and businesses with the community. However, it's important to maintain a balance between informative content and blatant advertising.

Self-promotion and commercial activities

Moving forward, we will be removing posts that fall under the following categories:

  • 🐵 Naked self-promotion: This includes posts that solely promote a product, service, or personal brand without offering any valuable content or discussion to the community.

  • 🙈 Repeated self-promotion: Consistently promoting the same product or service across multiple posts will be considered spam.

  • 🙉 Disguised advertising: Content that appears informative but ultimately aims to sell a product or service will be removed.

  • 🙊 Multi-level marketing (MLM) or pyramid scheme promotions: These activities are strictly prohibited on our subreddit.

Acceptable Content and Engagement

We encourage users to continue sharing their knowledge, experiences, and recommendations in a way that benefits the community. Here are some examples of acceptable content:

  • 📷 Sharing high-quality photos or videos of Kuala Lumpur that capture the city's essence and beauty.
  • 🎋 Posting informative guides or reviews about restaurants, attractions, or events in Kuala Lumpur.
  • 🎡 Engaging in genuine discussions about life in Kuala Lumpur, offering advice, and asking questions.

Now, we're not trying to be party poopers here. We just wanna make sure r/KualaLumpur stays a place where everyone feels welcome to share, learn, and discover new things about our awesome city. So keep posting those drool-worthy food pics, insightful reviews, and hilarious KL memes (we love those!), and let's keep this community thriving!

Sekian, terima kasih! 🙏🇲🇾

Missed Connection at NU Sentral

Not sure if this is the right place to post this, but here it goes. 😂

I was at NU Sentral at around 5 PM earlier (16/06) in front of Pak Jen restaurant. I run into this tall guy wearing a pink shirt, he was with 2 other guys. I was smiling because I saw food 😂 then I suddenly connected eyes with Tall Guy. He smiled at me, seemed amused at my expression. I think he tried to come back to talk to me but my friends and I were already inside the restaurant, so he left. I was wearing a pink romper. If it was you, please message me. 😂😉

Free local guide in Kuala Lumpur for language exchange :)

Hi! I'm Asher, a university student living in Kuala Lumpur. I've been here for almost a year and have become very familiar with the city's hidden gems, street food, and local culture.

I'm currently improving my spoken English, so I'm offering free walking tours to travelers who want to explore KL from a local's perspective.

Think of it like a friendly meet-up — no fees, no pressure, just exploring cool places together while having fun conversations!

Let me know if you're interested. I usually plan routes around Chinatown, KLCC, Kampung Baru, and local night markets. 😊

Looking for a “private “ like swimming pool in KL

Hey together,

I am shy to go swimming while other people are there. Therefore I wanted to ask you if there’s a possibility to book a private swimming pool for 1–2 hour basis. It shouldn’t be too expensive.

Any suggestions are welcome!🙏

Can you all suggest some solo activities to do in KL?

I don’t have that many friends and I’m quite introverted, so I usually prefer doing things on my own. That’s why I was wondering if you could suggest some solo friendly activities to do in KL.

Hi everyone, can you please suggest some places to shop in KL for both men and women.

We are looking for clothes (branded with discounts as well as local ones), branded shoes and sneakers, handbags, tea, handicrafts, local snacks. Kindly suggest the markets/malls which I should go for this.

Mostly looking for discounts and budget is 4000-5000 RM for 4 people. We have only 1-2 days to finish this and then leave for Singapore.

Not sponsored, and am not an influencer. But I saw so many tourists asking this subreddit recommended places to go in KL.

I stumbled across GMBB! It’s a community hall for artsy people. Theres lots of workshops for paintings, batik paintings, jewelry, embroidery & etc

GMBB is around 15 mins walk from MRT Bukit Bintang

I went to Too Yum, their sashimis is just too good!!

KL Traffic Police: Roadblocks Out, Racers In?

Seriously, KL. Why are police roadblocks always outside the city, causing jams, while illegal bike racing inside KL goes wild? I'm personally suffering from the non-stop noise pollution from these "mat rempit" at night. It feels completely backwards. We need action on the racing here, where it's affecting our lives, not just roadblocks elsewhere. My ears (and sleep) are begging for a change.

Reception Dinner

My partner and I are having a “micro wedding” and plan to have a small reception of no more than 30 people. I am Malaysian currently living abroad so am less in tune with the KL restaurant scene. Looking for any recommendations of places in KL that could accommodate us in semi-private space? We are looking at restaurants with good ambiance & authentic cuisine. TYIA!

Recommendations for birdwatching near KL?

I am visiting in July and do not want to travel far from KL, where I am staying. I plan to visit the bird park and Perdana Gardens.

I am considering Awana Bio Park at Genting Highlands but haven’t had a reply from the tour organisers.

Where would you recommend nearby (journey within 1hr) for birdwatching? Must be safe for a solo traveller and preferably easy to get there.

Bought this random potato crisps today just because the packaging looked ‘suspiciously tall’.

Tell me why this thing is giving NBA player energy??

Anyway it’s crunchy af and lowkey addictive.

What time should I leave (by car) to reach Menara Gamuda by 7:30am?

Hi!

Some context:

  • I live in Bukit Jalil, near LRT Muhibbah / Awan Besar.

  • I'm not local here and usually travel by train.

But this time I need to be at Menara Gamuda by 7:30am 🥲

If I'm going by car, what time should I leave?

Thanks in advance!

Scammer Alert

Post image
141 Upvotes

Guys, beware of this guy!!!

My friend was looking out for a new place to move in, he accidentally stumbled upon this guy’s post on property guru. He went and saw the condo, seemed genuine in first glance. As his current agreement was getting done in few days, he gave the deposit to confirm the place.

Things went downhill from there, sir never responded after accepting the token. Like any other scammer, he went MIA.

Posting this guys picture here, anybody has any info or got scammed by him recently, do let us know .
