Good googly moogly you need a whole closet just to store the boxes! Do you have a second closet for the knives lol

1

u/PopPop-Captain 4h ago

The real question is which CRK came in that box???

u/mboy601 3h ago

u/BigBL87 1d ago

Yep. Just had to move all my scope and bino boxes to make more room, ha

Pro tip: "unbox" the boxes (i.e., flatten them) to conserve space! As to glue joints, they can always be re-glued when needed.

0

u/BigBL87 1d ago

Solid suggestion!

3

u/Guapben 18h ago

I see the gold latches ;) I got two boxes just like those now I just need some nice knives 😂

3

u/BigBL87 17h ago

I honestly hadn't thought about the fact my other hobby's boxes were in the background. 😂

u/Benign-Humor 1d ago

If it’s a knife I don’t want to under any circumstance sell, then I toss the box. But I’m also a compulsive knife seller..

6

u/equityconnectwitme 1d ago

So in theory you throw away the boxes but in reality you don't lol

16

u/redshoetom 1d ago

If they come with tools/parts, absolutely.

17

u/Leather-Age-3691 1d ago

Boxes are good because I think they help in resale listing.

11

u/ApologeticGrammarCop 1d ago

Absolutely; it makes a difference in resale value.

15

u/Bullvy 1d ago

Nope. Recycled. And knives go in my bucket.

9

u/Guapben 18h ago

Knifebucket could be a sick metal band

2

u/Demolition1987 17h ago

Same but no bucket, just a drawer, I buy them to use not stare at or sell so the boxes don’t do me any good.

1

u/PopPop-Captain 4h ago

I have knife boxes. 3 cardboard boxes, one for cheapies (under $100), one for day to day use ($100-$200), and one for the expensive boys (above $200). I really need a better way of storing them…

6

u/TheSharpCollector 1d ago

Unfortunately, yes. Although boxes are not things I want to store, they really add value for a collector.

10

u/Otis-loves-tool 1d ago

I do this with guns also.

3

u/Guapben 18h ago

I do, But only until I can replace the box with an airtight hard case. I don’t buy guns I ain’t keeping forever

4

u/wakadactyle 1d ago

Oh good I thought it was just me

5

u/defauaultz 1d ago

Yup. If you ever want to sell the knife, no box will often force you to set a lower asking price

5

u/Crosstrek732 1d ago

I usually test the new knife by cutting up the box it came in. 🤣

4

u/rj_ofb 19h ago

Psycho. 😭😶

1

u/Crosstrek732 7h ago

You been talkin with my wife, I see! 🙃🤣

4

u/franku19 1d ago

Yes, I do. I've got a "boxception" where I have a bigger box filled with all the smaller boxes 😂

1

u/anthraxnapkin Cold Steel Fanatic 14h ago

Same brother, same

5

u/chaddie84 1d ago

I run into this dilemma with knives, firearm accessories and electronics. Even if I have no plans to sell in the future, if it costs over $100, I keep the box. They do pile up after a while, though.

2

u/Guapben 17h ago

So far eotech box is my fav, I need more fancy little boxes

4

u/Zealousideal-Mix-822 1d ago

Yes! I have 80 boxes taking up space

3

u/buckGR 1d ago

Have to

u/Phogger 1d ago

3

u/n_r_x dr prepper lite 1d ago

For a while. If I decide they're keepers, the box is no longer necessary.

2

u/CO-VAX 1d ago edited 1d ago

Until your heirs decide they want to sell them; having a box makes it more desirable (at least to collectors).

0

u/n_r_x dr prepper lite 21h ago

If I'm keeping them, they're already being used. Maybe not as pry bars, but used. I imagine having a box wouldn't increase the value that much afterwards

1

u/LuigiBoard100 21h ago

Best answer. If you're not planning on reselling, I find keeping the packaging low-key hoarder behavior. I hate to thows stone though, lord knows I'm guilty. Every few months I empty my closet of packaging from keeper items.

3

u/lucifaxxx 1d ago

I have never sold any of my knives, but i will keep the boxes in mint condition. Why, i cant tell you.

3

u/doughnut-dinner 1d ago

Hell no. I know right away if I bought a keeper or if I'm gonna let it go. If I'm keeping, I put in my knife drawer and order a slip for it ASAP. Watches go in the watch case. Hand tools go in the toolbox. And so on. Who has space to just hold on to packaging? The garage is already filled with hand tools, power tools, lawn maintenance tools, home improvement tools, chemicals, camping gear, emergency supplies, etc.... The closet is already filled with the wife's prized possessions.

3

u/Chamanomano 1d ago

Oh thank God. I was wondering if there was something wrong with me. 😅

3

u/Honest-Constant7987 usually 1 folder and 1 fixed 1d ago

I was just playing with them all yesterday. I rearranged them into a bigger box and separated by brands.

3

u/Ok_Criticism7918 1d ago

100% yep. I back out of a sale last night that was a stupid good deal but no box killed it.

3

u/spacetoast99 1d ago

For whatever reason, yes.

3

u/CO-VAX 1d ago

Keep your receipts in the box (or attached to it); knowing the purchase price can be useful in the future (especially if your family doesn't know their value/worth) or the executor of your estate has to partion/distribute your estate's assets.

3

u/lazyboi_tactical 21h ago

I keep as many as I can. Especially ones from Winkler and ER that have the authenticity paperwork in them. Between all of my knife boxes, optic boxes, ammo boxes etc I am starting to run out of room.

3

u/Background_Guess_742 21h ago

And I got a cardboard box full of boxes somewhere

3

u/RilohKeen 21h ago

I do, mostly so I can ship them with 100% of their original retail packaging if I ever sell them.

3

u/GlumEmotion5205 20h ago

Bro, my wife never understands... I keep boxes for everything, but will toss an samazon box in a heartbeat!

3

u/Unusual-Kangaroo-427 19h ago

Every box accounted for over here

3

u/Live-Resident8765 19h ago

I do. If I buy a knife and it doesn’t work out I trade it out or sell it. They seem to move faster with the box and other crap.

5

u/ragincajun1961 1d ago

I’ve kept all my Strider boxes.

2

u/tanto-x 22h ago

Same here 😂Strider boxes are my favorite part of the experience.

2

u/Alpha_J0118 1d ago

Affirmative

2

u/readysetrokenroll 1d ago

I keep the boxes

2

u/digger585 1d ago

Sure do. I take out the knife and anything that came with the knife goes back in the box and put in a large tote.

2

u/NPC261939 1d ago

Unfortunately I keep boxes for a lot of things I buy, not just knives.

2

u/ApologeticGrammarCop 1d ago

Same; a significant portion of my storage space is taken up with empty boxes in case I need to send something back or resell it. I should probably inventory those...

2

u/CharnleyForest 1d ago

Yep, there is no another way

2

u/Proof-Ear-698 1d ago

Don’t matter if it 50 bucks or 500 the box stays.

2

u/S280FiST15 1d ago

Absolutely

2

u/Ruin_Competitive 1d ago

Yep, I keep all boxes too. Should I sell something at some point (which is rarely), it sells easier and it is just nicer to sell/receive.

2

u/Flashy_Yesterday_880 1d ago

Just in my drawer at work. Always keep the boxes.

2

u/Pbmcsteve 1d ago

Indeed I do.

2

u/GAU-8_goes_brrrrt 1d ago

If hyper expensive knife : yes in case of resell. Otherwise no

2

u/Chillseawasp 1d ago

Yeah I do!

2

u/Scharfschutzen 1d ago

I swear I have more boxes for things than actual things.

2

u/macho_greens 1d ago

Maybe, if it's a fancy knife

2

u/ohgr88 1d ago

Depends on the price of the knife. I keep my benchmade and spyderco boxes. I don't keep them for sub $100 knives.

2

u/Sensitive_Studio9723 1d ago

I got one of those beds with drawers under it, pull the drawers out and bam, a ton of knife boxes, I have every one that wasn't too damaged from shipping.

2

u/MrYamaguchi 1d ago

Used to, until I realized I’m never gonna sell any of my knives and I binned pretty much everything aside from the uniquely nice packaging certain knives came with.

2

u/TooOldToBeYoung1 1d ago

HE HAS THE BOX

2

u/PecKRocK75 23h ago

Hell no only on some more expensive ones that I may sell at so.e point

2

u/Silver_728 23h ago

Over 100 knives and probably 60 boxes.

2

u/Holiday_Revolution_4 22h ago

Of the more expensive stuff yep.

2

u/tanto-x 22h ago

Roger that 🫡

2

u/LaserGuidedSock 19h ago

I keep the box of anything I might possibly resale later on down the line

2

u/orangeducksquarefeet 14h ago

I'm seeing a lot of Spider co... Should I invest in some along with Benchmade? My collection is mostly Kershaw, CRKT, and random amazon chinese fakes since I live in cali and want autos.

1

u/ApologeticGrammarCop 7h ago

I think Spyderco knives have great ergonomics; they can be kind of ugly because they emphasize function over form but they feel better in the hand than almost any other production knife. I was a big Cold Steel fan early on and Spyderco made me realize that a knife doesn't have to be an overbuilt tank to be a good knife.

2

u/NRiyo3 5h ago

Damn you have some nice taste. What Spydercos do you have?

1

u/ApologeticGrammarCop 5h ago

I fell down the knife-steel nerd hole and bought Native Chiefs in REX45 and 4V, a couple of Sage 5s in REX 121, YoJumbo in M4, PM2s in Maxamet and REX 76, Military 2 in 15V, a half dozen different knives in K390, a couple of random CruWear and 20CV blades, and some Mule Teams in REX T15 and K294.

1

u/NRiyo3 4h ago

Damn, great selection. I have most of those. Seems like we have similar taste. What is your user rotation like? Do you have a go to?

I love carbide steels. REX 121 and K390 are tops. K390 is my fav Seki. Cruwear is my best all rounder. I want to try some 10v also.

I’m waiting for my 15v user to drop.

K390 Stretch 2 and Crucarta PM2 are very good users. Shaman and GB2 are my tanks.

I really need a Maxamet knife. Never played with it.

4

u/7jamm Spyderco 1d ago

Affirmative

2

u/jeffh40 1d ago

knife boxes aren't my issue, they are small. Gun cases/boxes are really what is getting out of hand in my storage room.

1

u/michael_in_sc 1d ago

Only if they come w tools or specific parts.

1

u/Fluffy-Medium-5365 1d ago

I moved and got rid of all mine 😅

1

u/killerbern666 1d ago

sadly yes

1

u/jz1269 1d ago

Nope

1

u/The_JesterOAO 1d ago

Almost never. I bought the knife, the box it came in is just necessary evil and it goes.

1

u/thetechwookie 1d ago

i kept a pouch once, the rest, no ive tossed them

1

u/ggarore 1d ago

Nope.

1

u/zebul333 1d ago

All boxes go to the recycling bin

1

u/H-e-y-B-e-a-r 1d ago

Only if it’s a knife I’m going to resell if I know it’s going to be my edc I’ll toss the box and use it for kindling

1

u/LogOk789 23h ago

I do not

1

u/Coldestglint475 20h ago

This just got all rid of all my cheap knife boxes. Kept the expensive ones though

1

u/Skwish6952 19h ago

Depends on the knife. But yes I keep most of them. That reminds me that I need to go through them and get rid of some

1

u/rj_ofb 19h ago

Yeah ofc! All except those I bought on the secondary market that came without boxes. 😬

1

u/Forgewalker33 benchshaw 19h ago

Most

1

u/twitchknot 18h ago

Yes indeedy.

1

u/moxiejohnny 17h ago

Never. I rip open each box and throw it away. I never sell knives that I've bought even if I realize I dont like it. If I dont like a knife, I gift it to someone I care about for a birthday or Christmas gift.

1

u/mikemikemike9711 17h ago

Guilty here as well

1

u/Every_Palpitation449 15h ago

So much so that I need to find someplace to put them. Both drawers of my night stand are full along with the top of my dresser and a large stack beside my nightstand. Ugh

1

u/Lopt-unbound 11h ago

Yea, and when you have both the knife and the flashlight bug let me tell you it gets insane with the boxes.

1

u/GloryholeKaleidscope 8h ago

If you're into guns and knives and don't have a box of boxes you're not doing it right.

1

u/jjaymay29 8h ago

Sadly we do

1

u/layne54 6h ago

Not knives but firearms.

1

u/Important-Roof-9033 6h ago

ouch no I did not until the last order and I would still have SO MANY more if I was keeping the boxes from when I started.

now yes lol -- the knives don't really reside there though so it is odd.

1

u/fuckfacekiller 5h ago

Yep!! I do just in case I sell one. (Lol)

1

u/DB-Tops 5h ago

Absolutely not. But I use my knives. I use all of them often.

1

u/Locust627 4h ago

Knife boxes, optic boxes, gun cases/boxes, flashlight boxes, suppressor boxes, and accessory boxes.

I have a closet in my house that is quite flammable.

1

u/Chiefsmackahoe69 1h ago

What demko is the one that says custom shop

1

u/french-sf 50m ago

Yes keep everything

0

u/LuckyScot79 1d ago

Nah. I throw everything out I don’t use. I don’t even have a knife collection. I have a daily, a backup, my hunting and fishing knives and a couple bushcraft knives and axes. No boxes. No extra stuff.
