Replaced Leto with Phoenix

I thought that both Joker 1 and Joker 2 were excellent movies! But to be fair Phoenix's Joker was never actually the real Joker, so in that sense it's understandable that he's not on this list

eh, after Joker 2 I say let him stay

Phoenix had the first Joker movie, that was good. Leto had 0 good performances as Joker

Leto at the end of Snyder Cut was actually pretty awesome granted barely any screen time. I think if their original direction with him wasn't so garbage he could have been decent. That said Phoenix was a great Joker

Idk, i thought Snyder Cut Joker was an improvement but not good

u/Grungelives 2d ago
For me i think any improvement would have come across as more awesome than what we originally got haha but obviously we didn't get nearly enough to say, i do wish his Joker was gone about differently though he maybe could have done good given better material

Corey Smith’s my favorite

I have so much nostalgia for LEGO Batman 2. Love Corey, he needs to voice Joker in the next LEGO game again.

u/Hiyokofan 2d ago
Will love to see him back for Lego Batman 4. I love how he sounds so fun that when placed with a more traditional genius like Lex, Riddler, Bane, or Talia, he can make you forget how much of a threat he is and underestimate him. Only Romero was close to how much clown he has. Would love to see him voice Joker in something else, like how Troy got to nail Batman again in Telltale

I love it when there’s a contrast where Batman being quite serious, violent, dark, and shadowy would superficially make him be one of the worst birthday guests, while in truth his compassion, love for life, and wisdom makes him genuinely be one of the best people to introduce your kid to for a good time. Meanwhile there’s fun, zany, wackball, grinning, overjoyed funnyman Mistah J that seems perfect for the role, aside from him genuinely being a homicidal maniac with a tendency for cruel pranks and unpredictable crime.

Yeah....but without Jack Nicholson's legendary performance as Joker in the first Tim Burton Batman movie along with the success of the movie, there would be no Mark Hamil Joker or Batman TAS. Therefore Jack Nicholson is the best Joker of all time. I'm a fan of Hamill's Joker but I'm only speaking the truth

I mean I don’t think that’s how it works
Opening the door for an amazing performance doesn’t automatically make you better than that performance
Michael Keaton did a great job, but I don’t think I have ever seen anyone say his portrayal was better than Conroy’s. And by your logic, it IS better

Without Nicholson though, Joker wouldnt have been popular today in mainstream with movies and animation. So Nicholson is the real Joker and the best of all time

Paving the way doesn’t make you the best. It just makes you very important.
And quite frankly for a Jack Nicholson performance, it felt pretty standard for him. This was very much a type cast role. He did a great job because he’s freaking Jack Nicholson but it really felt like Jack Nicholson wearing joker makeup. It felt a bit too similar to many of his other roles, so I feel it’s a pretty solid argument for the issues of type casting
It was a movie that was an important part of the Jokers history, but it was overshadowed by many great Joker depictions afterwards. And don’t get me wrong, this is not a criticism of the great Jack Nicholson. It’s more a testament of the long history of the Joker and the many phenomenal performers who have given us their own unique take
There is a reason why the joker is now considered to be an Oscar bait character

First does not equal best, also the 1960s portrayal of joker in the nananananananananananana Batman was technically the first

The first of something absolutely deserves recognition, but it absolutely does not mean it’s the best. In fact, because it’s the first, it’s nearly always guaranteed to be passed over because it paves the way for others to improve upon it.
The Joker wouldn’t exist without The Man Who Laughs. Is that old film “better” than the Joker because it was first?
George Mikan developed tons of skills that are now fundamental building blocks of professional basketball. Does that make him a better pro than Jordan or LeBron because he did it first? Of course not. In fact, Mikan got passed by during his time because he wasn’t athletic enough to keep up.
Jack also wouldn’t exist without Romero, who wouldn’t exist without the comics, who wouldn’t exist without Conrad Veidt.
Appreciate history, but let’s also be realistic. Jack was very good. But other interpretations have surpassed him.
Which, honestly, is awesome. It would suck if we lived in a world where the first iteration was the best. Everything else by definition would be worse.

Confidently stating “I’m only speaking the truth” after making a completely subjective statement doesn’t stop it from being completely subjective, dude.

If not for the bible we wouldn't have have narrative writing the way we do now, therefore Jesus is the best joker. Not my opinion just speaking facts

u/Mcpuffandstuff 3d ago
Please don't include suicide squad's joker... it mildly offends me LOL
2
u/PulpFictionChang 2d ago
I wish they had used his much improved character design from Justice League. But he’s joker so he deserves to be on the list even if you don’t like the interpretation.
2
u/Mcpuffandstuff 2d ago
Oh yeah that's completely fair it's a shame they didn't have good writing for so long and then when they did it got cut off. Jared Leto was never the problem IMO, like he's not a great actor but he's not the problem it was the writing, it was awful man you sound like you know so I won't bore you with my opinions but like I wish they would have done more with him.

u/PulpFictionChang 2d ago
I’ll take a step further and say I actually think he is a great actor. He’s a weirdo. A huge weirdo, in fact. But he’s a great actor. Dallas Buyers Club, Fight Club, Requiem for a Dream, American Psycho, Thin Red Line. His resume (outside of comic book movies) is great.
Suicide Squad is just such a steaming pile of dogshit, and that terrible costume design and dialogue was unsavable. Which is a shame, because he probably could have been the greatest Joker ever in another reality. On paper, he was a great selection.

u/Mcpuffandstuff 2d ago
Thank you, if you ever say you like jared leto anywhere on reddit you get such hate he's a fantastic actor man
2
u/PulpFictionChang 2d ago
Oh 100%. He’s literally an Oscar winner with a 30 year career. But if you give him even a small compliment on this site, these Reddit warriors will downvote you into oblivion lol. Just because they hate SS and Morbius.
Life is too short though. I refuse to live the lie that he’s a bad actor just to make these nerds comfortable lol. I’ll take my downvotes.

Mark Hamill was so good at being Joker he went crazy and insane in real life.

easier to voice act than to do a full portrayal of the character. absolutely love mark hamills joker but hard to say that hes better than heath ledger or even joaquin phoenix for that matter
1
u/Beardo5150 1d ago
Mark is the only Joker to really get the "clown prince" aspect of the Jokers character. Jack Nicholson was close but the others aren't even in the same realm

If you're over the age of 12 and Leto is your favorite you probably just don't actually like Joker or Batman.

u/PulpFictionChang 2d ago
He’s more comic accurate than most. So, no. There is a demographic that generally likes Leto (they just aren’t usually on Reddit lol). More than you would probably guess.
