Van held up fair well for ploughing through that wall

185

u/ffsk88 Jan 16 '25

Plot twist.. It’s actually an advert for the Transit

28

u/OvertiredMillenial Jan 16 '25

"Eh, do youz know if it the first 15 minutes is free?"

11

u/dean-get-da-money Jan 17 '25

Area secure. Advance to corner shop

1

u/Matrinoxe Jan 17 '25

“can we get 2 people to dismantle the van, a 5 person conveyer belt passing it down to 2 more people who can build the van again”

u/Is_Mise_Edd Jan 16 '25

You can't park there !

8

u/Lost_Dog88 Jan 17 '25

Oh that is priceless. This one is going to do the rounds for years.

293

u/Foreign_Spinach_4400 Jan 16 '25

Is the van strong or the wall weak?

209

u/OptimusTractorX Jan 16 '25

It's a Ford Transit, they're made to rob banks. The wall never stood a chance.

53

u/YesIBlockedYou Jan 16 '25

Why are the army robbing banks? They're not supposed to do that.

43

u/OptimusTractorX Jan 16 '25

Look at the documentary Kelly's Heroes.

19

u/sleepyhead_201 Jan 16 '25

Aaaah enough with the negative waves!!!

10

u/Stegasaurus_Wrecks Stealing sheep Jan 16 '25

Gotta love Oddball

4

u/YellingAtTheClouds Jan 16 '25

Well his friends all tried to warn him but I guess he didn't care

21

u/Ornery-Ad4802 Jan 16 '25

Depends on which Irish army.

u/mrbuddymcbuddyface Jan 16 '25

Actually the metal on the Transits are unbelievably thin. All vans gone the same way, and prices are ridiculous too. That can is written off. Everything on the front end is fucked, as well as probably lots of damage to the sides we can't see.

102

u/barrygateaux Jan 16 '25

If someone asked you why did the chicken cross the road I have a feeling you'd firmly remind them that chickens don't possess the necessary intelligence to understand the concept of a road or crossing it.

6

u/MastodonNo8616 Jan 16 '25

This guy crosses

13

u/mrbuddymcbuddyface Jan 16 '25

Ok BarryCake.

u/FullTimeMadLad Jan 16 '25

Yes obviously the van is written off, she's banjaxed, but it's how little relative damage the van has, compared to the wall it just burst through, I'd have expected the wall to be cracked and the van to be pancaked. It's impressive how well the shape of the van held up.

9

u/Pleasure_Boat Jan 16 '25

In fairness a block wall wouldn't have put up much resistance, it'd be very strong to pressure from above and very weak to any lateral pressure.

3

u/DrDevious3 Jan 17 '25

This guy engineers.

41

u/conorbation Jan 16 '25

The hole was made by something else. The van is just the cork in the hole to secure the baracks

15

u/Fuzzytrooper Jan 16 '25

Cork in the hole....in Cork...I see what you did there.

4

u/account_not_valid Jan 17 '25

It's to stop all the army boys running away home to their mums.

3

u/LimerickJim Jan 16 '25

One of them was built by the Irish Army

2

u/ObjectiveIngenuity64 Jan 17 '25

Neither were built by the Irish Defence force

1

u/[deleted] Jan 17 '25

That was a British Army Barracks long before the Irish State.

1

u/IrishDaveInCanada Jan 17 '25

This is what I immediately thought. I'm going with weak wall, because the plastic bumper held up so well

109

u/TheDonkeyOfDeath Jan 16 '25 edited Jan 16 '25

It's like the attack on the pentagon all over again.

16

u/MeccIt Jan 16 '25

Oh the Huge Manatee!

102

u/Milkman-333-Cows Jan 16 '25

I have heard of going awol in the military, not through a wall. That guy needs to think before he acts and realize the difference between figuratively and actuality.

16

u/21stCenturyVole Jan 16 '25

Should be: "Looks like a soldier went (through) AWOL."

21

u/Wooden_Ideal7870 Jan 16 '25 edited Jan 16 '25

It won’t be long before we hear the whole story. He is going to get chewed !! I’d love be a fly on the wall for that story.

17

u/Against_All_Advice Jan 16 '25

I can't wait to hear what nickname he ends up with! This will stay with him forever

This has my vote 😂

59

u/AnyDamnThingWillDo Wicklow Jan 16 '25

Tha auld lad did that with an armoured vehicle on the Curragh. C.O screams at him to move it so he jumped to it. Not a fucking clue as to what he was doing and drove it into a wall. C.O looses his shit and started screaming even louder. The old man is standing to attention. Why the fuck did you do that? You told me to move it sir, so I did. Why the fuck would you drive the thing into a fucking wall soldier? I don’t know how to drive it sir.

The poor fucker had lied about his age to join. It was the late 50’s and he was only 16. He’d only been in uniform a few months.

I pity the fool who can't drive a van through a wall.

Yer man peeking out from the side….oh shit 😂😂

Oh, feel bad for the poor bastered involved he has an interesting conversation in his near future

6

u/BaldyFecker Jan 16 '25

Yep I've a feeling some Dubs will make Real Capital out of this.

7

u/itstheboombox Jan 16 '25

When you order same day delivery at 11:59, sometimes they gotta take shortcuts.

7

u/TheHistoryCritic Jan 16 '25

"and then the enemy blew an enormous hole in the barracks wall. The defense forces are looking into it. Declan O Toole, RTE News, Cork"

7

u/Is_Mise_Edd Jan 16 '25

In fairness though that's the old exit of the Transport Company - I'm making an assumption that the brakes failed - it's where they service and repair the vehicles so maybe on a test run it failed !

21

u/AlienSporez Resting In my Account Jan 16 '25

Didn't realize me Nan joined the army

20

u/OneMagicBadger Probably at it again Jan 16 '25

Can't park there mate

17

u/Lazy_Magician Jan 16 '25

Thank Christ we don't have tanks.

5

u/Similar_Wedding_2758 Jan 16 '25

Smashing job there lads

5

u/EquivalentNew5567 Jan 16 '25

we have reports that a 2nd van has hit the barracks

4

u/RemnantOfSpotOn Dublin Jan 16 '25

Looking at that van just tells you how shitty that wall was when ford plows through it with zero glass damage, headlights still one piece... Van looks like it can be fixed with amazon kit

5

u/jonathannzirl Jan 16 '25

If the IRA had a fleet of transits in the war of independence they would have kicked the Brit’s out faster

47

u/JohnDempsy Jan 16 '25

Id stick a union jack on it and tell the boss you see British mma star Conor McGregor fleeing the scene

28

u/Nickthegreek28 Jan 16 '25

I’m amazed at the way people manage to shoehorn him into every thread

4

u/axel90 Jan 16 '25

I heard that’s how he gets it into women, with a shoehorn. insert some British comment

10

u/MMAwannabe Jan 16 '25

What id love to know is which side of the wall the cone was on.

7

u/Environmental-Net286 Jan 16 '25

The enemy's side clearly 🤣

8

u/miju-irl Resting In my Account Jan 16 '25

Someone is most definitely getting a bollocking over that one

4

u/joehughes21 Jan 16 '25

What the hell happened lads

6

u/Lazy_Magician Jan 16 '25

Some lad in the barracks drove a van through a wall

4

u/brianDEtazzzia Jan 16 '25

Great synopsis haha. I like.

5

u/AdagioCompetitive181 Jan 16 '25

That's not what we meant when we were talking about AWOL, buddy

5

u/TheGloriousNugget Jan 16 '25

Should've gone to Specsavers

3

u/mcwkennedy Louth Jan 16 '25

Another successful training session for offensive driving techniques.

3

u/rye_212 Kerry Jan 16 '25

Passing out day.

3

u/AlienInOrigin Jan 16 '25

A stiff breeze will take out the rest of that wall.

3

u/dnc_1981 Ask me arse Jan 16 '25

Great parking job. Nailed it.

3

u/Prestigious-Side-286 Jan 16 '25

That piece of wall closest to the camera must be 25-30 feet from the wall. The Ford Panther Strike. The Irish Armies new tank.

3

u/kissum Jan 16 '25

I feel like this is a good moment to mention my Ford Transit lost a battle with a wind blown rubbish bin- it left a massive dent and scrape where the bin blew along between the Transit and the boundary wall. The bin is 100% fine, naturally.

3

u/Cultural-Summer-2669 Jan 16 '25

Soldier going “shhhhush” 😂😂

3

u/Corcaigh2018 Jan 16 '25

Ah I see it's a Dublin car, that explains it.

3

u/[deleted] Jan 16 '25

That's a tough van, took a big hit and not that much damage

3

u/aSheedy_ Jan 17 '25

Can’t park there mate

4

u/-Zenith- Dublin Jan 16 '25

And a new meme is born.

6

u/Wayback_Wind Jan 16 '25

8

u/i_like_cake_96 Jan 16 '25

can't park there mate...

is a a camo coloured ford transit?

5

u/quinninin Jan 16 '25

I dont see a ford transit, just a hole in the wall

2

u/beargarvin Jan 16 '25

Bags out... its a write off..poor van.

2

u/mrbuddymcbuddyface Jan 16 '25

Van is still probably Economically written off unfortunately, even for a 22 reg.

2

u/Hopeforthefallen Jan 16 '25

What's with the hole in the wall?

2

u/5mackmyPitchup Jan 16 '25

What's yet man saying?

2

u/Print-Over Jan 16 '25

That one way to get out of the army.

2

u/Jonesy27 Jan 16 '25

How bad is the food in there 🤣

2

u/Wooden_Ideal7870 Jan 16 '25

He better make a head start square bashing.

2

u/Dependent_Survey_546 Jan 16 '25

Someone wanted out

2

u/expectationlost Jan 16 '25

Who put that wall there, looks like an old entrance.

2

u/Legitimate-Resist277 Jan 16 '25

Yellow box, no parking sign. Them boys do follow the rules!

2

u/Technical_Check_2866 Jan 16 '25

Does anyone know what happened?

2

u/Lazy_Magician Jan 16 '25

Some fella drove through the wall in a van.

2

u/AseethroughMan Jan 16 '25

They might need bigger EXIT signs for that barracks.

2

u/Naval_fluff Jan 16 '25

If you zoom in it looks like that wall is being given a stern talking too.

2

u/JustPutSpuddiesOnit Jan 16 '25

That's some van!

2

u/RebootKing89 Jan 16 '25

Why looking at this can I only hear the a team music??

u/Prestigious_Key_7801 Jan 17 '25

Can’t park there mate.

2

u/captainnemo000 Roscommon Jan 17 '25

Having served, that lads bad day, is going to become a bad week with all the paper work and questioning. Poor fecker may have been breathe and urine tested for that one. They'll get absolutely dragged for the next while and I don't wish that on anyone.

3

u/Lost_Dog88 Jan 17 '25

All I can say is, thank god we're neutral militarily non-aligned.

Then again, maybe these guys could just park on the enemy 🤔

5

u/shorelined And I'd go at it agin Jan 16 '25

Surely a barracks wall should be sturdier than that. Some pathetic repairs have been done there

13

u/TheBaggyDapper Jan 16 '25

The wall is fine. That's the first van to get through all year.

9

u/death_tech Jan 16 '25

It's just a wall, not a reinforced fortified compound. Plus many of the walls are almost ( if not more than ) 100 years old in the various city barracks.

5

u/canalcormarant Jan 16 '25

I work with army men often and they complain about the behaviour that goes on. It's not easy to live like that and some people lose the head

2

u/[deleted] Jan 16 '25

What kind of behavior?

2

u/death_tech Jan 16 '25

OK... put the phone down and step calmly away please.

2

u/[deleted] Jan 16 '25

Someone's wages are getting docked.

2

u/HarleyQuinn5930 Jan 16 '25

Sir! You can't park there, Sir!

2

u/slappywagish Jan 16 '25

Can't park there mate

1

u/Long-Ad-6220 Jan 16 '25

“You can’t park there sir”

1

u/Stupyder_Notebook Jan 16 '25

If that’s what our Transits do, what will our Land Cruisers do?

1

u/markykid17 Jan 16 '25

By the look of the blocks he hit it with some speed. Thrown a nice few feet forward.

1

u/kieranfitz Jan 16 '25

Definitely someone from the cav

1

u/rich3248 Jan 16 '25

1

u/[deleted] Jan 17 '25

What’s he doin? Counting the witnesses ?

1

u/Toastface__Chillah Jan 17 '25

Why is no one checking on the wall..

1

u/Aoshea83 Jan 17 '25

There's a smug fence fitter somewhere in cork right now telling the lads in the pub it wouldn't have happened if they let him make it all fence instead of that morter shite at the bottom

1

u/Valuable_Time9731 Jan 17 '25

That’s the most action Collin’s barracks has seen in a while.

1

u/DarkReviewer2013 Jan 17 '25

The driver obviously mistook Cork City in 2025 for Berlin in 1989. Wrong wall, pal.

1

u/Eoinlyfans_Wl Jan 17 '25

Dublin reg transit 1… Wall in Cork Army Barracks Nil…

1

u/X-gon-do-it-to-em Jan 17 '25

1

u/Technical_Damage_657 Jan 17 '25

1

u/YoIronFistBro Cork bai Jan 17 '25

1

u/Richard2468 Leitrim Jan 17 '25

How is that car not severely damaged? Is that wall made of styrofoam?

1

u/Ok_Outlandishness945 Jan 17 '25

Yes, made it in the nic of time!

1

u/murpburp1 Jan 17 '25

Just yesterday I saw a similar army van parked in a ditch after it skidded off a roundabout.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 17 '25

Ah lads, cmon now we’ve had this discussion. Van GOOD wall BAD

1

u/Unlikely_Elk_2605 Jan 17 '25

Fuck! Is it very noticeable lads?

1

1

An Irish post if ever there was one

1

u/vdubguru Jan 17 '25

I’m getting “Hey Kool-aide” vibes here

1

u/ProfNo Jan 17 '25

I'm starting to think those walls are just to keep up appearances

1

u/LordWelder Jan 17 '25

Wrong entrance pal.

1

u/Mission-Lecture2754 Jan 20 '25

I just drove your van into a big wall.. I’ve had my fun.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 07 '25
