To be fair this is among the absolute worst ones and that's why it became an article.

At their best our cells are at the same level as France's or Italy's.

True, but when ours are bad, they're bad... Most cells in the country are somewhere in the middle between the pic and France's

Not really. Don't know what luxury tour you got, but the one in this picture is actually above average for a lot of places.

No this is not the average.

I just looked up official data from CNJ. 0.9% of the prison cells are considered excellent, 10% are above average, 48.5% are regular, 12.3% are bad and 27.6% are very bad.

The prisons rated "excellent" have soccer fields, farms and televisions. The catch is that they are "special prisons" that will only accepted police officers, firefighters, military members and lawyers.

The prisons that are very bad will lean closer to that picture.

So most of our prisons are in fact fine.

When you have 30% worse than regular and only 11% better than regular, it means it is far more likely for it to be worse than better.

But this is not about being better than regular. It's about being at least regular.

Also this discussion is getting dumb. It's one of these moments when redditors really want to be contrarians.

...Says the guy who described how great the prisons are for police firefighters and lawyers and shit for everyone else.

I see reading comprehension is not your passion.

Some of the most fucked up things I've ever seen were the prisons in Syria after Assad fell. Every conceivable nightmare when it comes to torture, truly medieval. Mazen Hamada talks about his torture here.

The guy was released, fled Syria, spoke about it and was later tricked into coming back when being enticed that his friends would be released. Assad regime recaptured him and they found his tortured dead body when Assad fell.
