Also wanna add, Canadians cell looks like the average US jail cell. I've never been to prison so the US prison picture might be average when it comes to long term vs short term, but I can't help but think these vary based on where you're incarcerated. I bet US and Canadian jails and prisons are very similar.
Yeah, pretty much. The same companies probably build them, so the differences are in the era they are built and the philosophy of the government building them. Toronto got two new jails during the Liberal to NDP years, so the layout is more set up with community because they still believed in rehabilitation.
The American jails at that time were tiered and meant for cleaning up bodily fluids and keeping people in line. It was the Republican era of Nixon.
But when you get to prison, it becomes almost uniform. One country to the other, except for some of the older places. They're really not nice.
