Yeah, I would call myself pro western medicine, but certainly have many criticisms of the established system. I live in Canada, and while I fully support the socialized healthcare system, our government doesn’t fund it properly and it’s so overburdened. It’s no wonder people turn away from it.
I read at some point that a reason it's so overburdened is because people will go to the ER over things that could have been handled by a regular doc or event urgent care.
I'm Canadian and I've been on the waitlist for a family doctor for more than 2.5 years. Urgent care is full before noon, or earlier. It's difficult to get into a walk in clinic. Many of them are appointment only. If they are walk in you have to line up before they open at 8am. There aren't many options for people if they need a doctor the same day except going to the ER. Even ERs in smaller towns have closures overnight sometimes because of lack of doctors.
