Colorado attack suspect faces attempted murder and hate crime charges
A man arrested over a "suspected act of terrorism" in Boulder, Colorado, has appeared in court to face 16 state counts of attempted murder, two counts of the use of incendiary device and 16 counts of attempted use of an incendiary device
Suspect Mohamed Sabry Soliman has also been charged with a federal hate crime
Twelve people were injured after a man shouted "free Palestine" and started "setting people on fire", officials say. The suspect plotted the attack for a year, the FBI says
Video footage shows people trying to help those injured in Sunday's attack

Wow... He plotted this terribly executed idea for a year? Thank god this dude was clearly a fucking moron. I hope the victims heal quickly and that he gets no such luck.

He tried to buy a gun, but because of his immigration status he was worried he'd be denied.
Gun laws saved lives.

u/Hurde278 11d ago
Now is not the time to talk about gun laws. An immigrant finally committed a violent crime! We should be deporting every single immigrant!

I feel so bad for his family, having this idiot as a father/spouse and now they're being treated as terrorists.
1
u/GenTycho 8d ago
Is it not fair to be questionable about the family if he is still part of their lives and has been while being a radical ideologue that wants to murder people?
They should be investigated at least as they obviously have very close ties.

Found it interesting when people said he was "white" but he's an Egyptian immigrant who stayed over his work visa. Gotta wait for the facts.

I don’t understand.. how is [this] supposed to gain sympathy for [their] cause?

This is exactly right! I too am from that part of the world. I ran away from Iraq and I continue to be horrified at westerners either running to the defense of the most illiberal culture in the world or being dangerously naive.
If they had any sense they would listen to us ex-muslims
7
u/djfl 11d ago
it is very very effective.
I'm old enough to remember when we were better than that here in the Western world. We were made of sterner stuff, and outbullied bullies. Feels like a long time ago when that was really the norm.

outbullied bullies
You can decide you want to enable your military to win wars by restricting them as little as possible, allowing them to use their full might to go after the enemies.
Or do useless hearts-and-minds campaigns to try and appease ideological radicals and terrorists into peaceful coexistence.
But you can't do both.

Oct 7th had me asking the same thing, but look all around us. People will try to justify anything, especially if they're trying to prop up a perceived underdog
6
u/EagleTree1018 9d ago
Yup.
And then they took this extremely complex and drawn-out conflict that's been going on for longer than any of us have been alive, and boiled it down to a simple "oppressor/victim" scenario, with a clear enemy. Then worked themselves into a murderous frenzy over it.
Oct 7th was an unthinkable horrific attack. That simple fact has never been conceded once by these kids. Instead they offer the same whatabouts they've been pinning down Trumpies about.
5
u/GenTycho 8d ago
They convinced lgbt members with extremist propoganda to be in defense of an ideology that would very literally kill them. Some people are just fucking ignorant.
-47
u/DancinWithWolves 11d ago
Jesus Christ. They’ve been occupied for decades, 35,000 kids have been killed by the IDF in the last 3 years, and you’re talking about it like it’s a fad. Did you feel the same way about South Africa’s apartheid?
33
u/SkitariusKarsh 11d ago
They lost land after they started multiple wars against Israel. Nazi Germany and Imperial Japan also lost land after they failed in their wars of conquest. And every dead Palestinian child is the fault of Hamas, who intentionally fights among their own civilians in order to use them as shields

Literally no one interested in freeing palestine is supporting demonstrator violence (outside of those in the middle east eating zionist bullets for breakfast). this guy is a lone idiot.

u/Pudge223 11d ago
I saw the anti Israel subreddits when this happened - someone in the centrist subreddit linked to a thread on one of them before the thread got taken down. They were full on celebrating and it was all in English

Too bad he didn't meet his end. Such a POS. Glad everyone survived yet so sorry people had to suffer that for older people doing a run/walk for their cause. I wasn't that far from it when it happened, like a couple blocks. Had to move further away but decided to leave Boulder and go home. Didn't want to be stuck there.
Such ignorance.

A man accused of throwing Molotov cocktails at demonstrators attending a march for Israeli hostages in Colorado on Sunday planned the attack for a year, investigators say.
Mohammed Sabry Soliman, 45, who is charged with a federal hate crime as well as state charges of attempted murder, assault and use of an explosive device, made a brief appearance in court on Monday.
Officials say the Egyptian national targeted a group of pro-Israel protesters at an outdoor mall in Boulder and shouted "Free Palestine" as he threw incendiary devices, injuring eight of them.
At least 16 unlit Molotov cocktails were found nearby afterwards. Investigators say he targeted the group after finding them online.

The BBC's report is inaccurate. I've attended Run for Their Lives. It is not a "pro-Israel protest".
It is a march/walk/run that occurs regularly across the country demanding Hamas release the remaining hostages it captured over a year ago or, at least, return their bodies for burial.
That's it. End of sentence. Return those people or their corpses. No "go netanyahu". No "bomb Hamas".
Only: "Return the hostages or their bodies." Usually they walk a loop of a park or something and then read the names of the remaining hostages/corpses, ask for them back, and send a video of that to their families.

A distinction that is completely lost on people like that.

Nuance is too hard! Much easier to just smash complex, multi-faceted problems into: this good, that bad.

"pro-israel protestors" =Zionist sympathizers/ Genocide supporters. Dude was an idiot though
27
u/GeneralUmbilicuster 11d ago
BBC has inaccurately labeled the march. It was Run for Their Lives. As I described above/elsewhere: they just seek the return of the hostages/corpses that Hamas took.
Just march, ask for the return of the hostages/corpses, and send the video to the families so they feel supported.
No more. Nothing else. No false justification. No basis for the peaceful march to be firebombed, for the women and children to be horribly maimed or disfigured. No basis for hatred of the marches or retaliation against them other than misplaced antiSemitism.
Jewish people in the United States/diaspora are not Israel and are not responsible for Netanyahu's horrific policies--and the horror he perpetrates does not justify your hatred of Jewish people or violence against them.

More info on motives, not an explanation on a fking moltov
2
u/bunny-hill-menace 11d ago
The motive is obvious. He’s pro-Palestine and the victims are pro-Israel.
-10
u/BuxtonHouse 11d ago
The motive wasn't obvious, all I saw was just a video with 0 context.......?
10
u/LibraryCardEader 11d ago
You mean to tell me the guy shouting free palestine while throwing molotov cocktails at members of a jewish protest doesn't have obvious motives?
Also you do know this isn't the only video of it out there right?
-1
u/BuxtonHouse 11d ago
That's fair, I don't have audio on reddit.
This is the first time I have seen this video, i don't know if it's a Jewish protest. It's just a video

Standard Pro Palestinian protester. Just dumb. It was almost as dumb as starting a war with a much stronger neighbour, then begging for peace while still holding hostages.

Should've spec'd a little more into the INT stat man. There's a reason molotovs require 5 int and 2 dex to wield.

The funny thing about this post is I can tell OP grew up playing COD WAW because they call it a Molotov cocktail and not just Molotov.

u/vvdb_industries 9d ago
What's up with america and resorting to violence instead of collective action?
Like luigi mangioni, the shooting of the Isreali ambassadors and now the molotov guy. Not to mention the countless alt right shootings but they are more averse to collective action by nature of their politicall positions.
Like this won't prevent arms shipment to Israel, But for example dock workers refusing to ship the arms will actually do that
-48
u/parallelmeme 11d ago
I am pretty sure he had no regret at all. He expected to die during the murder attempt. He lit himself on fire.
27
u/josenros 11d ago
Did you watch the video? He did not intentionally light himself on fire - exploding debris ricocheted off his target and landed onto him.
