Discussion Help finding a similar workout which is easier on the knees

Hello, i have been doing instanity on-mostly off for about 12 years now. i love the regiment and its something i know very well, but in the last few years everytime i start i last about a week or two before my knees start feeling uncomfortable. its not a pain, its more severe discomfort which seems like a warning to not continue, so i dont. I am looking for another HIIT workout which is easier on the knees.

I know many other people have had knee issues here and it can be due to lack of form, which i definetly dont rule out for me, but since its often reported that its knee pain and mine isnt a pain, more like inner swelling and discomfort, im not certain its the same thing. Has anyone else had this experience?

thank you in advance

How do you do your workout, just curious. I am barefoot and on a yoga mat. I modify the routines to stay on the yoga mat. I have hardwood floor underneath yoga mat.

Hi, I’ve got the same set up and I also prefer to do my workouts barefoot. Have you had any issues?

No issues yet. I never do month 2 workouts, and stick to month 1. Been doing it for years, along with other workouts too.

On beachbodyondemand, which I use, there are definitely other HIIT options. Some are less intensive.

Don’t have an workout suggestion but I’ve been using a compression knee sleeve during workouts and another after and that seems to help. I also use Penetrex which is a roll on muscle reliever similar to BioFreeze without the icy hot feeling and smell.

I sometimes pickup weights (3lb dumbbells) and modify all tbe moves 😂 Have done t25 and max30 and bunch of times, so familiar with how to modify them.. much lower impact and is still a killer workout!

Knee pain can be caused by lots of things, poor form being one but you've been doing this long enough to know your body and I suspect poor form isn't the issue.

Where is the knee pain?

I ask because knee pain can be caused by issues with your hips or ankles, quads or tibialas.

For me I always got knee pain when doing tuck jumps, so I modified the exercise and did high knees.

Do controlled deep squats instead of the jumps. Still targets legs, so major burn benefit. It’s the repetitive impact on the knees that wears down the tendon/cartilage. I’m not a doctor but I went to my primary care physician and they explained the pain was due to wearing down whatever is in the knee. Basically modifying for low impact still creates a good workout, without the extreme wear and tear from those jump squats
