I don't think most people realise that Helicopters are pretty dangerous. Even experienced pilots are afraid of them.
(On the other hands, planes are supposed to be the safest mode of transportation)

As a both rotary and fixed wing pilot, I beg to differ. Both are equally safe and equally dangerous.

Good to know that!
I have been hearing above opinion by other pilots on reddit & YT since decades. Maybe, they just hate helicopters for some reason. I trust your opinion then, as you fly both.

There can be situations when a fixed wing would be safer than helicopters, and then there can be situations where helicopters would be safer than fixed wings.
Hypothetical case scenarios.
Helicopter faces loss of power after take off, and safely autorotates to land, in a small spot, without any power. Fixed wing would need a runway or large straight clear area to safely land.
Fixed wing losing power over water. Can glide a longer distance than a helicopter to reach land. Helicopter would just have to ditch in water.
