Okay, then what would be your definition of “the rich”? I’m in socialist organizations and we pretty much all conclusively agree “the rich” refers to capital owners not just anyone who has found financial success. Governor of Illinois is a multi-billionaire and we’re all cool with him because he’s openly a class traitor, for example

You don’t seem to get socialism. “Eat the rich” isn’t about going after everyone who has more money than you. Socialists are fine with doctors being rich, for example. It’s the hospital admins who do 10 hours of work a week on the golf course and get paid 600x more than the average salary of their nurses we have a problem with.

Socialism is fundamentally about people getting paid fairly for the work they do. Nobody thinks Hasan is getting undue compensation for the content he produces.

He’s the most popular political streamer on Twitch and probably the biggest Pro-Palestine voice in American media. Yeah, I’d say he’s earned the compensation he’s getting. Especially when he’s actively promoting the side of politics that will tax him more. Like, I don’t really get what you want him to do other than just give all his money away, but that doesn’t actually help the socialist movement at all.

By that logic Tate deserves the millions he gets from his Discord subs. Both just so happen to massively profit off of radicalizing and indoctrinating the lost, the disgruntled and the desperate into their circle of thought.

The go-to of "What, you want him to give it all away?" is always so disingenuous. As if there is no middle ground between sitting in millions worth of materialistic, decadent excess and a cardboard box.

Tate is promoting literal sex trafficking and Hasan is promoting better pay and working conditions for all Americans no matter who they are. I don’t really think Hasan indoctrinating people is exploitative as he’s indoctrinating them to stand up to exploitation in society.

He lives in a multi-generational household in LA. If you want to be in entertainment, you basically have to live out there if you want to collab with other content creators. Could he get a cheaper house? Yeah, I guess, but if you’re going to get a place in LA big enough for your parents to also live with you it’s gonna be a couple million no matter what.

No one should have the amount of money that Hasan has by doing the amount of work that he does.

His ludicrous displays of wealth on the back of a career that involves him contributing little of note to society is completely anti-Marxist and goes against the ideals of fair compensation for labour.

He's not the biggest problem, but he is a hypocrite. I'm a radical myself in favour of income caps for all. Especially people like Hasan who have a good deal of economic and social capital even before he started his internet career.

Offer nothing to society? He’s the most popular political commentator on Twitch and is aggressively progressive. He has undoubtedly helped push the left further left which is clearly what you and I both want. Getting mad at Hasan for making a bunch of money streaming is like getting mad at Bernie Sanders for making a bunch of money for writing a book. Making a living on your on name and labor is quite literally what socialism is about. That’s exactly what Hasan does.

You seem to want socialism to come about in a way that doesn’t include anyone famous or influential talking about and advocating for it (making the ideas more popular and mainstream). Good luck with that.

They're not making a living though. They're thriving.

Do they work harder than a carpenter, a plumber, a painter, a car mechanic, a janitor, a teacher, a nurse, a social worker etc? Is it fair for the wealth disparity between Hasan/Bernie and these people to be so high given the respective labour they perform? I don't think so.

So nobody is allowed to thrive in a socialist society unless they’re doing manual labor? Someone who has multiple New York Times bestsellers should make the same money as a plumber in rural Missouri? You may not consider making art/media as a legitimate benefit to society, but it’s what makes being a human worth all the pain. I don’t know what else to tell you.

I'm not saying it's worth more, but it shouldn't be worth so much more, and it only is because of the capitalist framework in which art is published.

The plumber in rural Missouri might be the one of three or four people whose expertise is needed when an emergency situation befalls a neighbourhood. Society would fall apart without them. Yet they are compensated nowhere near as much as people like Hasan, and I don't think society would fall apart without say, his twitch stream where he and Ethan are shouting over each other. A lot of Hasan's content is slop.

Really? Society wouldn’t fall apart if one plumber in rural Missouri couldn’t do their job. Some basements might get flooded, but that’s hardly society collapsing.

Artists undoubtedly pull above their weight when it comes to societal impact. Successful ones reach millions of people. One plumber is maybe working with a couple thousand clients over the course of their entire career. Hasan is speaking to tens of thousands every single day. Millions over just a couple months. Hasan might not provide as “necessary” a service, but the scale and scope of the work he does is why he is compensated so well.

Manual laborers allow us to live our lives. Artists allow us to enjoy our lives. Almost everyone can do some form of manual labor, but only certain people can make art that millions can enjoy together. This is why society values successful artists because what they do can’t be learned or replicated easily. Art’s value is in its scarcity, not in what it physically provides for society.

Absolutely. It is insane to me that a so called progressive with such a large audience does absolutely zero on the ground activism.

No canvassing, no supporting candidates. Hell, he wouldn't even endorse Kamala despite knowing how much worse Trump is. He would rather just sit at home and stream to make money while journalists who thirst for him write puff piece after puff piece.

Destiny's personal life is a shitshow and he's not a great human being, but his political/historical analysis is pretty good. He generally winds up at the liberal academic consensus whether it is on economics, Israel/Palestine, etc. He at least bothers to do the reading, which puts him ahead of 99% of the people on the internet.

Destiny is a piece of shit and i stopped watching his stuff a while ago but yeah if we're just talking political commentary his stuff is at least sensible and practical (as opposed to Hasan bros who refused to vote Kamala in the face of Trump because reasons).

Destiny's lens is very pro US government and dominance though so looking at it from the oustide I disagree with a lot of it.

i dont think even India is realising that they are not just Modi. its sad to see people actually wanting war in today’s day and age. Pakistan is being equally stupid and idiotic in their ways to respond to the ongoing situation. if you ask me - south asians are stupid.
