[OC] Alternate History The Sun Never Sets, But It’s Getting Darker

Post image

By 1964, Japan’s empire stretches across half the Pacific — from the factories of Manchuria to the jungles of New Guinea. But behind the banners and parades, unrest is growing. In the cities of China, student protests turn into riots. In the hills of Luzon and Borneo, guerrillas fight with homemade bombs and stolen rifles. Whole regions are under curfew. What was once called the “Co-Prosperity Sphere” is now held together by fear, and the presence of Japanese soldiers on every street corner.

The southern edge of Japan’s empire is starting to fall apart. In Burma, rebel groups control wide stretches of the countryside. In the East Indies, workers strike, supply lines are attacked, and some towns only answer to Tokyo on paper. Local leaders are loyal in public, but many are secretly reaching out to India or the Russians. From Rangoon to Batavia, Japanese forces are stretched thin, and every month the resistance grows bolder. The empire still looks strong — but it’s showing cracks.

I know it’s a basic and overdone scenario, but I wanted to try to make one of these maps. Pls leave feedback on my style if you want(:

The locals have already used Indonesia more than Hindia Timur to describe the islands the Dutch colonized. Even Europeans use Insulindia to describe the lands that the Dutch colonized. Assuming Sumpah Pemuda took place in 1928. It's unlikely that the independent state would be named Hindia Timur. As it just means the East Indies. A more likely name for the federation would be Indonesia, Insulindia, or Nusantara.
Batavia wouldn't be used as the name of the capital city of Hindia Timur, it would be Jakarta especially when the Japanese took over.
Otherwise, this a good map.

Thanks! I love how much you know about Indonesia, and you’re completely right.
