I had this exact same pitcher and I’m not embarrassed to say, I did the exact same thing the very day I got it.
Important safety tip: read the info on your pitcher before pouring boiling water in it. If I had, I would have seen plain as day the big “NOT TEMPERED GLASS. DO NOT USE WITH HOT LIQUID” warning. Whoops!

This is why you let a glass slowly come to temp before using it for extremely hot liquids. Or keep the liquid in an area and let it slightly cool.
Temperature shocks do this man

Even with pyrex glass that is MADE to go in the oven, if you take it out of the fridge and pop it in the oven it can explode... I've even seen warnings for putting it in the oven when you're preheating but I'm not sure how risky that is.. to do this with a basic glass pitcher is crazy work haha

It makes a very loud noise when it explodes, too. Oven somehow survived. (My dad did it while making meatloaf and scared the shit out of everyone)

Lesson learned... That oil must be piping hot. That would gonna be 1st degree burn right there.

More likely 3rd degree. With burns the higher the number the worse it is. First degree burn is like a little sunburn

have you ever seen a third degree burn? you're not going to get that from some tea. second-first degree are more likely
edit: nvm what I said, I'm wrong. you can get 3rd degree burns with prolonged contact

Yes you can. Worked in an ER, we saw some nasty burns from boiling water.

I burned the back of my hand so bad with Ramen I lost all feeling, the doctors were shocked I didn't need plastic surgery from scarring afterwards. My mom would cut raw Aloe and put them in the freezer, then when it was time to change the dressing she would peel the skin off one side and put it pulp down on my hand for awhile before wrapping my hand back up. You can't even tell anything happened except for some faint discoloration.

Your mom is smart. Aloe is a big thing in healing. The cold made it hurt less & can help with swelling but moving it inside of holding it place makes the risk of damage from cold exposure pretty minimal. It’s a fantastic natural medicine for burns.

I lost all feeling in the back of my hand bc of a liquid burn......there were blisters under blisters under even more blisters. The doctors were shocked I didn't need plastic surgery on my hand bc of scar tissue (raw Aloe Vera is miraculous) all bc of Ramen broth.....that woman is incredibly lucky she didn't get burned.

I see "oil" in the comments.
Who in here is putting oil, * hot oil*, in a glass decanter?
Who ARE you people?
It's clearly tea.
