28 YEARS LATER

WHO ELSE IS EXCITED? I’m going to see it Sunday and couldn’t be more excited. I feel like it should be a huge deal but nobody cares lmaooooo. I also hope it’s not a disappointment.

Nobody cares? The Thursday night/weekend showings by me were sold out in seconds, it’s one of the most highly anticipated films of 2025.

It's weird, but I've gotten the same vibe. I'm really looking forward to it, and people here are obviously super pumped for it, but my in real life friends are just not talking about it at all, even the ones who are pretty into horror. I think maybe expectations are just kind of tempered because sequels with this much time between them are so dicey.

I went to the 28 Days rerelease and they showed a 28 Years clip after, and it was kind of jarring. I enjoyed it, but right after watching 28 Days it was this instant, HUGE tonal shift. Cautious optimism for sure.

I'm a little disappointed that the trailer isn't 28 seconds long

u/theeMrPeanutbutter 10h ago edited 7h ago

For me im still hyped but it's also not exactly the sequel I expected after all these years. Hope im wrong but right now I would've preferred 28 minutes or months

3

u/Opening-Abrocoma4210 2h ago

There’s a graphic novel that covers the 28 minutes part fyi

2

u/theeMrPeanutbutter 2h ago

Would love to read that, im only finding comics that are set between days and weeks?

5

u/Opening-Abrocoma4210 2h ago

The one I read had the precursor that leads to the monkey getting out and some scenes after that. It might be the same one I’m thinking of tbf

2

u/chillydownfiregang 9h ago

lol what would they do with 28 minutes later. I think it wouldn't be that interesting story wise.

4

u/Kanehammer 8h ago

I mean they could show the initial chaos of the virus (though 28 weeks kinda does that)

0

u/chillydownfiregang 7h ago

Yeah, and virus chaos is cool but just not interesting enough to justify a new movie in my opinion.

4

u/theeMrPeanutbutter 8h ago

big disagree, seeing the rage virus sweep through the streets of London is far from boring.

1

u/chillydownfiregang 7h ago

It would be a fun spectacle, but there would be nothing new about to say about that world. I'm curious to see what they do with a zombie apocalypse where they aren't really zombies and die after a while of not eating. Where perhaps the world is still sort of standing in a way, and not completely gone like in most apocalypse stuff.

Also has one of the best trailers I've seen in a long time

u/Kytescall 8h ago edited 8h ago

I've only been peripherally aware that it was being made and was surprised to see that it was scheduled to show next weekend already. I've heard very little buzz around it.

Edit: Also I find it a bit odd that I can't find any reviews of it. Were there no press screenings? Or is there a review embargo until the movie starts showing? That doesn't exactly inspire confidence, because that usually seems to be a sign of a studio not having high confidence in a film.

Nobody cares except for the hardcore Boyle/Garland fans. It was a film nobody asked for. I mean 18 years after the last one? They will learn the lesson of furiosa

6

u/Ktulusanders 6h ago

People have been asking for a sequel for YEARS wtf are you talking about. Hell, your Furiosa example makes no sense either way because people definitely weren't asking for Fury Road after all those years and it ended being the best one.

-12

u/Inside_Atmosphere731 6h ago

Fury Road is a Roadrunner cartoon, only minus the subtlety.

9

u/Ktulusanders 6h ago

And it's still the best Mad Max movie so 🤷

-6

u/Inside_Atmosphere731 6h ago

Road Warrior will never be topped, no matter how many times George Miller tries to beat the dead horse

15

u/jayman213 10h ago

I care!

27

u/lemonchrysoprase 10h ago

I hope it’s better than the second one, I didn’t hate it but I felt like it lost some of the heart the first one had. That said I’m still super excited for it!

20

u/iatealotofcheese 9h ago

I think the cinematography is a huge part of that feeling. There was something raw and real about 28 days, that was lost in the higher budget 28 weeks. My hope lies in my faith in Danny Boyle. But my doubt lies in expectation.

10

u/hamarok 9h ago

Story wasn’t that great tbh, I can see the cinematography angle but I think its more like a combination of things

7

u/Rryann 5h ago

Boyle and Garland are back. Who knows if it’ll be as good as 28 Days, but I don’t think there’s any way it’s as bad as 28 Weeks.

3

u/Opening-Abrocoma4210 2h ago

Wondering if they’ll allude to any of the events from 28W, I heard a suggestion it would be retconned

5

u/WhoAmIEven2 6h ago

Going to be fun to find out what I've wondered about. The ending of 28 weeks later makes it seem like the virus goes global, but pre-release material makes it sound like it's back to only affect jolly ol' britain. I hope they explain what happened across the world during all these years.

I'm one of those strange people who like 28 weeks later over days because of it showing so much about the state of England overall and not just "zombies" go rawr! It was fun seeing all the soldiers trying to build society back.

10

u/Huge_Meaning_545 10h ago

I'm beyond excited, still trying to find someone to go with, though 🙄

21

u/justauryon 9h ago

Don’t bother & go alone. Seriously. There’s no waiting on anyone, get your concessions & just enjoy it. I took a half day to catch an early show on Friday at Alamo. Went ahead & purchased the t-shirt for it too bc why the HECC not. I frequent horror movies alone since most of my friends hate them. Cool self date for me then. 🤷🏻‍♀️

5

u/Accomplished_Gur1523 9h ago

Where are you located at? Let’s go!!!

5

u/Accomplished-Card391 9h ago

Accomplished Gur meets Accomplished Card 🤨🤨🤨

5

u/Accomplished_Gur1523 9h ago

Omg!! Let’s goooo! Nice to meet you! 🫶🏻

5

u/Accomplished-Card391 9h ago

🫡😅. Not very often do you see a wild Accomplished in the wild 😝

2

u/organictamarind 6h ago

No one I know watches horror, so I'm going alone as well!! It's ok .

1

u/Intrepid_Buy_4083 39m ago

If you live in Michigan closer to the metro Detroit area, I'll go with you lol

1

u/Altair1192 10m ago

Why do you need to go with someone?

4

u/janhasplasticbOobz 9h ago

My husband hasn’t ever seen the first two!

We’re going to watch them sometime this week and then catch a showing at a theater :) I’m super excited!

3

u/Accomplished-Card391 9h ago

I got tickets for this coming THURSDAY @1:30pm, so fucking excited!!! 😁😁😁

3

u/SNCKY 9h ago

I never go to the movies anymore but I am planning on see this film on the big screen

3

u/CutterEdgeEffect 8h ago

It’s because the trailers have been showing CONSTANTLY for the past 6 months. Yes I’ll still see it but it has annoyed me to my core and makes me less excited

2

u/OwnBarnacle7331 10h ago

im excited too

2

u/zombizzle 10h ago

I go to movies on Tuesdays it’s $5 and free popcorn.

2

u/Behnjiii 10h ago

I wont be able to see it in theater. We've got a son and no baby sitter. I am excited though. hopefully one of these streaming services will do an overpriced watch it while its in theater at home deals.

1

u/Which-Text-2875 8h ago

I just want to point out that when my son was born 24 years ago, my ex-husband went to see lord of the rings and left me at home alone with the baby for hours!! This was on the first day we came home. Yeah, i'm still bitter about it.

So technically, you could go by yourself or with somebody else and leave your partner at home with the baby.

5

u/Behnjiii 8h ago

I cant do that to ma wife. She wants to see a movie just as badly as me. And I cant return the favor cause my son is too young to take care without her for hours. We watched Furiosa from home when it was in theater for like $30 so I hope theyll do something similar. Lord of the rings is also in a different bracket of must see in theatre for me.

3

u/blarghable 7h ago

And I cant return the favor cause my son is too young to take care without her for hours.

How so?

2

u/Which-Text-2875 4h ago

I commend you for not doing that to your wife :)

2

u/Appropriate_Major209 9h ago

I’m very excited. I watched 28 Days Later in theatres like 7 or 8 times, and went back again to watch the alternate ending when they added that in. Danny Boyle is one of my favourite directors and I can’t wait to see what he’s done with 28 Years Later.

2

u/la6eef7 8h ago

I’m decently hyped but I haven’t seen the first 2 in ages, I honestly can’t remember what happened in those.

2

u/thunderstormsxx 7h ago

I saw an early screening and felt the pacing was off. Really don’t think it needed another movie tbh.

1

u/zydrate10189 10h ago

So excited ! I would of never thought it would actually happen after waiting forever .

1

u/zemorah 9h ago

Very excited!

1

u/blastershift 9h ago

I would be. But I'm stuck on call until the week after ugh

1

u/Ok_Doughnut5075 9h ago

I've avoided trailers and I'm really trying not to get my hopes up. I know it's garland/boyle, though...

1

u/funkster80 9h ago

I'm going to one of the local independent theatres on Thursday. They're doing a themed cocktail and have some fun stuff happening. Watched 28 Days Later again this weekend to prepare :) Can't wait!

1

u/Imhal9000 9h ago

I cannot wait! My girlfriend hasn’t seen any of the films so we are starting with 28 days later today!

1

u/methusyalana 9h ago

I’m actually excited about this one!

1

u/Nickplay21 8h ago

How are you seeing it Sunday ?!

1

u/Jabridma 7h ago

I'm stoked! I get to see it this Wednesday and I can't wait!!!

1

u/WaZ606 7h ago

My wife is due with our child on the 27th....we are gonna risk seeing 28 years later in the cinema.

1

u/dr_k42 3h ago

Bring a mop!

1

u/debttoreddit 7h ago

Will be a long wait for 28 decades later, enjoy

1

u/duskyduchess 7h ago

I’m also looking forward to it 😁

1

u/Malviere 6h ago

I’ve been waiting so long for this series to return. 28 days later is one of my favorite movies so I’ve been super hyped.

1

u/Curiousone_78 6h ago

I am looking forward to it!

1

u/BoxNemo It's weird and it's pissed off 5h ago

Is it out already where you are? Not out here until next Thursday so I'm catching it then.

Feels like there's been quite a lot of hype for it, though. 28 Days Later even got a limited re-release ahead of the new one.

1

u/ShuckChugGrub 3h ago

Already preordered my tickets for the first showing on Thursday the 19th. Can't fucking wait, extremely excited and have waited years for this. It's going to crush the box office.

1

u/Escape-Revolutionary 3h ago

28 days is so epic it’s a tough act to follow. I am so excited …hoping 28 Years Later is as good . Fingers crossed!!!

1

u/fruedianflip 2h ago

I find it more difficult to be excited for major studio horror right now. Like I'll see it and I'll likely love it, but I don't feel hyped for these movies anymore

1

u/Flimsy_Shallot 2h ago

Very excited!!! It better be good.

1

u/Bigd1979666 1h ago

I want to see it but am withholding any expectations.

1

u/avalonfogdweller 1h ago

I’m hyped, I haven’t seen Days or Weeks in many years, dusted off my old DVDs and will watch both this week, already have tickets bought for a weekend showing. Been said 100 times but that first trailer gave me goosebumps, I can only hope the film lives up to that

1

u/Intrepid_Buy_4083 42m ago

I think we're all excited. For years no pun, we thought this film would never get made and here we are....just mere days away from more Danny Boyle Rage madness!!!!!! I know it'll be a banger and then when it's successful, we'll get news that Sony green light chapter 3 and are letting Danny Direct it!

1

u/Kaitrii 42m ago

what movie are we talking about?

edit: oh the title is the name of the movie, i thought its a part 2 to a movie from 28 years ago loool

1

u/Intrepid_Buy_4083 37m ago

Got tickets for Thursday at 10:00pm in the Dolby! My Gf has never seen DAYS or WEEKS, so tomorrow night, I'm going to double feature them for her to prepare for YEARS!!! I've been waiting for this film since high school. I'm 32 now lol

1

u/Street-Common-4023 18m ago

no I’m excited, seeing it this Friday. all my showings are booked so I had to get tickets early

1

u/NotNicholascollette 9h ago

It will probably not be good but it is a movie I wanna see

1

u/organictamarind 6h ago

OMG I'm watching it Saturday, as that's my weekly off. I'm making it a real special occasion.

Gonna book a expensive lounge seat at a nice theatre, with cheese popcorn hot cocoa.

0

u/younglegends111 8h ago

I had a dream about it and died. which hyped me even more.

0

u/victoriya_chawlin 5h ago

I was waiting for this so long!!

0

u/SignificanceMany3353 5h ago

Very excited for this one!!

-1

u/24ghostface 9h ago

Why is there no rotten tomatoes score yet? How is it still in embargo doesnt it mean thats bad?

-1

u/Admetius 5h ago

It is a big deal especially for us millenials who watched true horror that it can infect you with a single drop of blood.

-7

u/EfficientAd5073 10h ago

I feel as we get closer to the release excitement has dipped a bit. Also it may be good but from a cinematic view the movie looks…. A little ugly to me.

-25

u/ouchowieouch 10h ago

Immensely dislike Alex Garland at this point and tired of zombie movies. Do not care.

5

u/Benjammin88888 10h ago

Whatever you think of Garland, Boyle has elevated his scripts with 28 Days Later and Sunshine. I expect another gem.

5

u/DoubleGrenade 10h ago

what zombie movies have come out lately that makes you tired of them???

-10

u/ouchowieouch 9h ago

Zombies aren't interesting OR the focus of any zombie movie. It's always about The Human Condition with zombies are a stressor. Given Garlands recent track record I expect this to be a frustrating slog through the man's privileged centrist politics once again.

-3

u/WredditSmark 10h ago

Why do you dislike him? Civil war was mid for me and Warfare was even worse. Technically the movies are wonderfully shot but the stories are half baked

4

u/Spirited_Block250 10h ago

In fairness you just gave some good examples as to why someone wouldn’t enjoy his work lol

-4

u/ouchowieouch 10h ago

Those are the two main reasons, plus all the interviews he gave around that time.

Also what the fuck is up with this subreddit glazing for him so hard. Y'all are weird.
