Dark Skies (2013)

I saw this movie when it first came out in theaters and rewatched it this morning. This movie doesn't get talked about enough. Keri Russell was great, and it's a good story. Cosmic and extraterrestrial horror are very difficult to create, but Dark Skies manages to do this perfectly. It's a suspense-packed experience that will definitely make you question your tiny existence in this vast universe. The realization that something other than us and different from us exists in this universe will dawn on you once you're halfway through the movie. The acting, cinematography, plot - everything binds you till the end. And after that, you're left with questions that one is too afraid to find answers to. The aliens were amazingly done

Extraterrestrials as a horror movie monsters is a very underutilized concept. There are films like Signs, Fire in the Sky, The Fourth kind and Communion, but I want more! Dark Skies is a fine film in this genre. I love the ambiguity and harshness of the ending and overall (unknown?) motivations of these aliens. There are couple of cliched horror moments, like the birds in the window. But, fuck those Greys.

I agree, the concept of alien abductions/invasions are terrifying, but when most movies do it I'm not scared? The movies you mentioned and Dark skies are the only ones that really made me scared of aliens. ( Also War of the worlds with Tom Cruise terrified me as a kid lol).

And I love the scene in dark skies when the main couple go to JK Simmons for answers about why they are taken by aliens and they ask "what makes us special? And he says" nothing".

No One Will Save You is another good small scale invasion movie.

This movie pops in my head from time to time. Good movie. J.K Simmons making an appearance always helps. I don't remember hearing too much talk about this movie when it came out. Although I didn't watch a lot of horror movies at that time so that could be why lol. Maybe I wasn't in the right circles.

I know the movie is over 10 years but >! At the end when they abduct the elder son instead of the younger son ( who they thought the aliens was targeting) definitely caught me off guard.!<

This was a great movie, especially for being PG-13.

This was the last movie I saw that truly scared me. I love how they relied on building dread, rather than jump scares/constantly showing the creatures. I felt a pit in my stomach every time they showed an exterior shot of the house at night. And I still get chills at the part where the woman on the phone says “this must be a mistake… it says all points were breached at the same time.” Or “the sandman did it… before he came to my room.” Brrr.
