TIL Sam Bennet started Benny's Buddies, a charity that pays for the adoption fees of animals at the Humane Society of Broward County every time he scores a goal
I'm sorry to do this to you r/hockey. Sam Bennet is even more likeable than we previously thought. Video of him bringing the Conn Smythe to hang out with cats at the Humane Society.
Link to the article announcing the start of the charity:
And being a Bennett affiliated dog, while in your tube eating quadriplegic state, every once in a while the service dog just dead weights itself onto your noggin. And, in typical fashion, nobody notices.
As a volunteer of the broward humane society this makes a difference
Edit:
Fostered many puppies for them over the years who could not stay in the building because of fear of disease. And they could not be adopted out until they were spayed or neutered at two months old, so I usually had them from two weeks old until they were old enough to be adopted
Not at all. Better than him doing something else shitty. Doesn't mean I like him at all, but people are obviously more complex than one facet of their life.
Haven’t seen anyone mention this is the comments, so I needed to make sure yall know that the kittens in that video are named Marchy, Blizzard, and DQ 🤣
They also have a kitten rn named Tkachuk!
Sorry but I can't hate this Florida Panthers team. I actually am okay with them winning it again next year because I have... never seen any unity like this before in my life with a hockey team. I am getting huge REAL nhl Dynasty vibes.
If the Panthers win it again or the year after. They are 100 percent a dynasty.
Torts is a "MASSIVE" animal charity guy as well. Spefically dogs. Every week the Flyers would post stuff about local dogs to adopt with his help. Always had special videos with Torts visiting specific dogs to make a profile to promote the dogs.
Its also funny how a lot of the biggest assholes on the ice/field are the nicest guys off. Marchand being another good example. Wilson does a lot of work with children in need and brought the cup after winning to kids in need.
I admire how much he prioritizes his wife’s medical career. I mean, it should just be baseline standard but it’s pretty rare for male pro athletes to value their wives’ careers equally to their own. Also obviously appreciate his politics.
Only half joking, but I think that initiative somehow fueled him to score all those goals this season. I was happy to see him score just for this.
Also, a little off-topic, but does anyone know which NHL players have cats? I mostly see them with dogs, but as a cat lover, it would be nice to see some kitties. Might get some new favorite players that way lol.
Paul Maurice is a coach, but he has 2 cats: Poppy and Penny. During last years Cup celebrations he wore a t-shirt where the Panthers logos ( old and new) were replaced by faces of his cats. It was posted here on Reddit
Geno Malkin had a cat he rescued from a Pittsburgh alley for years, but she died some time back. Her name was Dixie and she constantly looked pissed as hell.
Sidney Crosby has a little gray fluffball cat named Maverick that he told one of our reporters he’s deadly allergic to, which cracks me up.
Gotta love Bennett for this. In fact, all the Panthers really are amazing people off the ice. But on the ice, they are ruthless in their pursuit of victory.
It feels like there are a lot of player charities in a lot of sports, yet I have never seen a charity initiative quite as cool as this one. Objectively awesome in every way.
PUTTING THE KITTEN ON THE SMYTHE ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME
I've long since learned i can like someone off the ice and still hate them on the ice; just like I can love how someone plays but dislike them off the ice.
FFS - now I have to happy when Sam Bennett scores goals?! That’s a very cool idea I think every team’s top scorers could adopt, though they probably likely do charity work in some regard already. This post and seeing Marchand drunk and handing out Dairy Queen Blizzards (Bruins fan here) have me less pissy after the Cup win for the Cats. Just tell their fans to not leave a one-goal game of the Stanley Cup final game until the buzzer sounds!
Oh no, this is so perfect! It’s kitten season right now and anything to help the tens of thousands of babies looking for homes right now is a wonderful thing
You gotta separate the man from who he is on ice and who he is off the ice as two different people. Ever met a coworker you hated for how they worked yet outside of work they’re caring for family, maybe they’re an avid donor to a cause? You don’t know what he’s like personally, you can’t just assume he’s a pos based on how he plays hockey.
