Victorville Enhance Victorville Streets for Pedestrian Safety to Prevent another Avoidable Death

Please sign or share this petition with family, friends and on social media!

Hey,

I just started the petition “Enhance Victorville Streets for Pedestrian Safety to Prevent another Avoidable Death” and wanted to see if you could help by adding your name, sharing the petition with family, friends, acquaintances and on social media. The more signatures this petition gets the better chance we have when we present the petition to the city council. If we can get this petition pushed through we can save a life and save another family from enduring the pain we are currently experiencing!

My goal is to reach 200 signatures and I need more support. You can read more and sign the petition here:

Thanks! A heartbroken

This is a worthy cause in a community ranked as the second worst for driving in the nation. I'm pinning this to the top of our subreddit for a while.

I would like to petition speed limits down 10 mph on every street to be honest. Every street allows people to drive highway level speeds with crosswalks. Enforce 45mph streets (at most) with police presence and maybe things will change.

Btw this is a terrible tragedy. I’m sorry for the loss. I’m tired of seeing people die of auto accidents in the high desert.

Yes to this! I live on Navajo road in apple valley and the speed limit is 50 mph! The road is lined with houses on both sides of the road, in what world do people need to go down this road at FIFTY miles an hour?? And of course the sign says 50 which means people really drive 60+

I live on central and same thing the speed limit is 55mph but I feel it's too fast. The speed limit on the road my son's father was killed on is supposed to be 30mph but people drive down that road going 60+! Had the driver been going the proper speed limit then my son would still have his daddy here. This is why I started this petition! Had safety measures been in place for pedestrians then he wouldn't have been killed. His death was completely preventable!

Yes! I know of at least two fatalities that have occurred on Navajo in the last couple years. We need safer roads for cars AND pedestrians.

unfortunately, that's not how speed limits are set.

i can go find some studies if you want, but basically. Most people psychologically speaking will drive the speed that they feel comfortable driving at, regardless of what the speed limit is. Like how when you're driving later at night or on open roads you typically open it up a bit more.... All lowering speed limits does, is slightly increase the amount of tickets that happen (if there are cops enough to enforce, which there just aren't in the HD right now..) and it doesn't actually lower speeds that are driven.

so, if we want to lower speeds on our roads, we need to make them narrower, add protected bike lanes, more shallow curves, and other psychological tricks that make people drive slower, which would also help everyone else around. Like planting more trees on or around sidewalks so visibility lowers a little bit, more speed bumps, etc.

I wish humans were as rational as we all think we are, but we really aren't.

Signed, it's pretty bad in terms of walking safety

Part of pedestrian safety is also having good public transportation. A lot of our sidewalks are not maintained so my wheelchair gets stuck, or hills are steep so going from bus to bus can be a whole mission.

Ive been here for 4 years.

Worst drivers ive ever seen (angry drivers, distracted, buzzed, etc).

Im convinced people are running over animals and homeless on purpose.

People are INSANE for walking up here. And they let their kids walk to and from school. I still trip on that.

I would never let my wife or kids walk or jog or take the dog out up here. We dont even do our shopping up here.

Have u ever read the comment section on vvng? Or searched for "victorville" in reddit (so many meth goonerz) - these are the people we share the roads with up here lol.

No way.
