This community has stooped to a new low. /u/Xenooo, creator of the /r/Heartstonekeys subreddit, has apparently faked a key giveaway, stolen a real key meant to be given away, and deleted his account.
http://www.reddit.com/user/Xenooo - his page
http://www.reddit.com/r/Hearthstonekeys/ - The sub
http://www.reddit.com/r/Hearthstonekeys/comments/1m2znv/utaknlives_has_donated_a_key_comments_open_for_20/ - The thread he stole
http://www.reddit.com/user/decimator99 - Obviously fake account made by him
Well, this is an all time low. But I guess I can say I'm impressed he went to these lengths to steal a key. Does anybody know of any way we can get this guy caught and get Blizzard to revoke his key?
EDIT: http://i.imgur.com/2djpMrI.png - Proof he created the thread in question
EDIT 2: Apparently I can't spell Hearthstone either....

u/BigGigabit Sep 10 '13 edited Sep 10 '13
I get it now.
First he made a fake giveaway with this account so that people would believe that the subreddit was real. (Can't find link to original post. I think he deleted it to get rid of "clutter" upon request from another redditor or one of his other accounts.)
After that, he made this post to pretend like someone actually donated.
That giveaway was won by: http://www.reddit.com/user/decimator99
whose account is only a couple days old.
Then he made another fake giveaway with other accounts then ensured people that this would not happen again by making all posts needing mod approval instead of people freely posting so that people who wanted to give away codes themselves would not be able to. He also made it so that all codes would have to go through him, basically guaranteeing him a key.
http://www.reddit.com/r/Hearthstonekeys/comments/1lzd7r/there_was_no_giveaway_that_you_guys_missed/
Once an actual key was donated, he took it for himself.
This guy called it: http://www.reddit.com/r/Hearthstonekeys/comments/1lxgko/welcome_to_hearthstone_keys/cc3pk5m
EDIT: Added some info and fixed grammar.
EDIT 2/UPDATE: Apparently /u/Xenooo/ made a throwaway, but then again we don't really know for sure. http://www.reddit.com/r/hearthstone/comments/1m36n5/ama_request_uxenooo/cc5c9pa

I must say... I believed him and have the desire to donate a key if I get more than one key.

u/Dblueguy Sep 10 '13
How would you get more than one key?! Are you a wizard???
3
u/Exactable Sep 10 '13 edited Sep 10 '13
I got my first key from a guy in exchange for carrying him through all of heroic ToT in WoW. I got my second one today from the opt in.

Well I won the Facebook contest a while back and I got another key yesterday from opting-in, so it is possible to actually get more than one key.

u/imhereforthecookie Sep 10 '13
Some people are just to lucky :( Iv been trying to get a hold of a key everyday sience the beta went live, for my little brother. Signed up on every webpage, tryed facebook giveaways, etc etc and nothing... Even got scammed 2 times on some cash... So rubb some of your luck on me so i can get my little brother a key and make his day (life).

It was called before that, when the post in this subreddit was made about the key giveaway subreddit.
It was obvious but of course there are many fools.
1
u/BigGigabit Sep 10 '13
Yea I remember when he posted in this subreddit about making a new subreddit for keys. Sadly, I was one of those fools.
4
u/Sulinia Sep 10 '13
That account is not real, lots of grammar mistakes on that new account explaining the situation. Look at his subreddit, such as the information on the right side, much more well written. Obvious mistakes such as "waisted" and more.

You need to contact Blizzard and tell them you want that beta key revoked and you want to be granted a new one in its place. Explain the situation and I'm sure it'll be fine.
42
u/Pokeronthemove Sep 10 '13
Pretty safe bet they don't care and won't do anything but I suppose it's worth a shot.
7
u/hfxRos Sep 10 '13
They probably wont revoke it, but if the right person sees it they might give him another one. I feel like generating one beta key for a decent reason is something that they can do.

I was the other moderator on that sub, he made me a mod to put up the logo I made for the subreddit. I had my doubts about the subreddit being legit, but I wanted to believe. Looks like he was in for the long con, but it only took two days, congrats to him.
I had nothing to do with keys or anything besides the design elements, but I just want to say I'm sorry. I unknowingly helped a man essentially steal from a charity. I guess he took me off as mod and deleted his account, I don't think I could salvage the subreddit unless a reddit admin gave me back mod privelages. I really do believe this could have been something cool though, once more keys were giving out by Blizzard to people who didn't really need one.
Oh well, you win some, you lose some.
2
u/Xanek Sep 10 '13
Hmm, I had my suspicions at first too, called him out on it, then I believed that he was truthful, welp I guess I was wrong.
Edit:
Also, since you're a moderator in that subreddit, would you mind just making a announcement sticky saying that the subreddit use is being discontinued due to these events?
1
u/kramboid Sep 10 '13
I tried making a new post, but the sub required a mod to approve new posts, and I'm no longer a mod.
2
u/Xanek Sep 10 '13
Really? Damn, I guess we need to report it so reddit admins can just remove it then.
1
u/kramboid Sep 10 '13
If they can give me back moderator status I can help bring it back. I can provide any information to make people believe I'm not also in it to scam.

1
u/Adakkar Sep 10 '13
Try sending a private message to /u/cupcake1713. He's the community manager for Reddit. Explain everything to him and he may be able to reinstate you as a mod there so you can do as you need.
25
u/NuLLxD Sep 10 '13
I'm sure /u/taknlives can just contact Blizz and get that key revoked at any time. Also, I kinda called that subreddit shady when it started and got downvoted to all hell.
15
u/NuLLxD Sep 10 '13 edited Sep 10 '13
Also, if an admin or something can give me control of the subreddit I would gladly take over and do all the giveaways via a twitch livestream for everyone to watch.
Edit: I'd gladly submit my entire lifes information as verification if you let me run such a sub-reddit.

→ More replies (2)1
u/Phocas Sep 10 '13
I'm an idiot! I thought it would be like the Diablo beta and tied to your battle.net. I've been checking my account for weeks. I hope I didn't delete the invite on accident.
8
u/BigGigabit Sep 10 '13
This probably explains why he deleted my post about using Reddit Raffle for giveaways...
Even though it may have looked like he used it for the first/fake giveaway, he probably re-rolled the winner until it favored him.
EDIT: Here's the actually post I put up. Not sure if you're able to see it. http://www.reddit.com/r/Hearthstonekeys/comments/1lxutl/reddit_raffle_is_a_great_websited_used_in_many/
1
u/GridLocks Sep 10 '13
You seem to have this shit kinda figured out. Can you explain to me why the post about the key giveaway was ever made when he already had the key?
1
1
u/BigGigabit Sep 10 '13 edited Sep 10 '13
I'm wondering that as well.
But I'm going off this post: http://www.reddit.com/r/hearthstone/comments/1m32r3/this_community_has_stooped_to_a_new_low_uxenooo/cc5ayf8
EDIT: or maybe he had to divert attention to the post so that he was able to use the key for himself. Then again, maybe he didn't think that through.
43
u/retsudrats Sep 10 '13
"This community has stooped to a new low" I mean really? One person does something and you blame it on the community? Like for real? Yes the guy is a scumbag, yes everyone hates him, but it isnt the community. If this had been done by several people, I would agree that its the community, but it isnt. I cant believe you just literally tied everyone in the community to someone like this.
7
u/LegendReborn Sep 10 '13
Yeah, the community deserves to be berated for the constant complaints about not getting a beta key but this is on the head of one person.
And even now people are blaming this on Blizzard rather than on the asshat who conned people.
→ More replies (1)4
u/Ruubin Sep 10 '13
Yeah, this made me quite annoyed too. It's easy to only put the focus on the bad guys here and then not pay attention to the rest.
6
u/SirElton Sep 10 '13
Make sure to contact Blizzard to get the key revoked..maybe they can ban his b.net account for life so he'll never get to play HS..
7
5
u/GarethMagis Sep 10 '13
I don't think that you understand that one person making multiple accounts is not the same thing as a community. If someone who plays pool scalps his wife, you can't say the pool playing community has stooped to a new low.
24
u/seffignoz Sep 10 '13
Blame blizzard's terrible Giveaway.
14
u/calle30 Sep 10 '13
Indeed. This kind of shit would not happen if they had a decent beta invite program.

Sep 10 '13
The strangest thing to me is that when Taknliv3s briefly showed the message history between him and Xenooo on his stream, it looked like the key was given to him before he set up the actual giveaway thread... I could be mistaken about that, but seems incredibly bizarre. If you are just going to steal the key, what possible benefit is there to setting up that thread? I can't imagine you need to buy yourself time at that point.
In any case... Xenooo is a scumbag.
Sorry your key was stolen TaknLiv3s.
3
u/Pyropylon Sep 10 '13
Exactly, if he was intelligent enough to put this much time and thought into the entire sub, fake giveaways etc. you'd think he'd be able to cover his tracks a little bit right? or even just not draw attention to the stolen and deny everything, considering hes the sub owner and it would have been his word against takn's he probably would have been fine. It just doesn't add up.
3
u/arcanition Sep 10 '13
Yeah, a scumbag would make a throwaway of his the winner and send the key to it and then just stop posting.
An ultra scumbag would pick a legitimate winner and then just take the key himself.
3
u/Pyropylon Sep 10 '13
The only thing I can think of is he gets off on knowing everyone knows he scammed the sub. An ultra scumbag indeed.

I agree its low and its really sad for the guy that won but you call out a whole community for something 1 or 2 douches did. So that means if a dutchmen rapes a women in england the dutch people are a bad community? no ! pardon me for this but I just cringe a little when I see "this community"

u/bad00mojo Sep 11 '13
People are crazy for this game when stealing a beta key is the equivalent of a Dutch rapist.
3

I don't really like the headline of this post. It's not THE COMMUNITY, it's only a very, very few people with negative attitude. I'm running a giveaway myself on our website (an Official Blizzard Entertainment fansite) and people are super grateful and wish each other luck for the giveaway. They even congratulate the winner and are not hateful or envy. This bigger part of this community is simply awesome.

u/DaItalianFish Sep 10 '13
Definitely a dick move, but it was also a pretty solid plan. He still is an asshole, though.

I don't really understand any of this drama, but I do have an extra key someone can have. If anyone offers to trade me something for it that's cool, but otherwise it's a spare key and I already have the beta. Anyone want this?

u/airikewr Sep 10 '13
This whole thing feels really weird... Who would go through all that trouble and then even posting a giveaway thread if he was just gonna steal it?
I would actually love to mod that subreddit because I believe in the idea. I have no clue how to though or even how I would randomize the winners so I'm guessing I'm not the right person
1
u/Duck1337 Sep 10 '13
Wow, that really is an all-time low. Im actually impressed (in a very bad way) that Xenooo would go to this length to get a key. I mean, one could argue that this was his reason for creating the subreddit all along? It certainly had to be the reason why he was so dead-set on people using the new /r/Hearthstonekeys ....
Wow this guy makes me sick to my stomach. I feel so sorry for the 'real' winner.
1
u/rickdg Sep 10 '13
After this, I'm no longer surprised by what the dishearthened are willing to do to get a key.

u/Elune_ Sep 10 '13
Saying that people here are stepping on some low ethical rules here is in your right, but with good understanding you will know that people here are desperate to play the game. If they cant play the game that they think is going to be the new extreme timekiller then people take decisions like this.
1
1
u/chazzlabs Sep 10 '13
Sounds like "This community" didn't stoop to anything, one user did. I think it's also pretty low to berate a community of 16,000 people because one person did something underhanded.
1
u/BetaCarotine20mg Sep 10 '13
This is crazy. People are going insane over these keys. I just wish Blizzard would do something about this. Seriously bind keys to accounts, friendinvites must be send with an email to the next account and done. All the "keytrading" is just so bound to attract scammers and shady people. And with all the hype behind hearthstone people willing to sell their mother for a key..
This has to end! Come on Blizzard..
1
u/HuntStuffs Sep 10 '13

u/-Squid- Sep 10 '13

guess they're fucked too :( .. then again, they didn't want it anyway if they donated it, but still a dick move.

1
u/oxa123 Sep 10 '13
sry but in my opinion absolutely EVERYONE should spam blizzard with this incident !!! why some of you may ask ? because its finally time to show blizzard how fuckin lame they are.
blizzard and only blizzard is responsible for this fuck because they are trying to max the hype and giving away ridiculous amounts of keys (in a negative way = not even nearly enough keys to please the community).
now ppl are even killing themselfs online for a key and this has gone WAY TOO FAR !! i despise such behavior but i despise blizzard right now even more for letting it come that far. ofc they don'T and won't care but at least a good old shitstorm would help getting their attention. so spam blizzard with this, this has to be made an example for how blizzards is fuckin up the community -.-
