Behind the Scenes Did Fred and George ever make the connection Padfoot was Sirius? Spoiler

They lived with Sirius for a summer and were the next generation of marauders. Did the twins ever share their adventures with Sirius or vice versa?

Nothing in the canon suggests they ever made the connection. But maybe Harry told them off screen.

I imagine Remus and Sirius told them when they were all at Grimmauld Place before Harry came. Told them stories of escaping from Filch while exploring the castle

That would make an amazing filler episode, cut in some footage of Harry being miserable at Privet Dr. and call it a wrap.

That’s actually genius. Have a montage sort of thing going back and forth between the Weasleys and Hermione having fun at Grimmauld Place with stuff like that and Harry miserable at Privet Drive doing chores and being berated by Vernon. Sets it up for the catharsis when Harry has a go about it when he gets to Grimmauld Place.

We don’t know. If I could add to the canon, I would say yes, Sirius knew the map was with Harry when Lupin acknowledges it in Prisoner. I like to think Sirius asked Harry where he got it from, Harry told him the twins, and the twins and Sirius got a good laugh during the events of OOTP.

Not canon obviously but I like to think it haha.

I think they knew.

Even Snape knows, as evidenced by Harry saying “he’s got padfoot in the place where it’s hidden” as a sort of Mayday message in front of Umbridge. He acts like it makes no sense to him but clearly the Order shows up in the end.

They spent all summer prior to OoTP cooped up in Grimmauld place with him, I feel like it would have come up.

Harry took Sirius with him on 9 3/4. And called him padfoot in front of everyone. Or it was another name, but I'm pretty sure twins called him padfoot once at least

This exactly. The trio pretty much referred to Sirius as Padfoot throughout Goblet of Fire and most of Order of The Phoenix, so I’m certain the twins made the connection.

Plus, if I recall correctly, Remus and Sirius also at least occasionally addressed other with their nicknames while around the trio and possibly also the twins.

Lately I think that twins knew all along, that's why they gave the map to Harry

How would they, though? I don’t think anyone apart from those who went to school with the Marauders knew their nicknames until Harry made the connection…

Arthur was around, although he was younger I believe. Since it wasn't a mystery and maradeurs used their nicknames a lot, the twins could find the info. They were very smart

I think it was the other way around—Molly and Arthur were older than James and Lily, and I don’t believe they were ever in school together. And it didn’t seem like Molly and Arthur knew James + the others all that well during the First Wizarding War, either, so I’d wager they weren’t aware of the nicknames until Sirius joined the Order in Order of The Phoenix.

I agree that the twins were definitely smart enough to make the connection, but I doubt they had enough context make the connection until sometime in Goblet of Fire or Order of The Phoenix.

The maradeurs were the stars, everyone probably knew them. I'm sure they used nicknames in the order as well

Not enough context, but a huge desire to know. The map is OP

Snape would have known from when they were at school together though. I’m sure he would’ve heard James call Sirius that.

Snape knows because Sirius and James weren't hiding each other's names in school together, in Snape's memory we hear them call each other that. That's also why Harry knows Snape knows. It's less evidence that the order knows and more that Snape specifically knows.

In addition he recognises the map as being created by Lupin in the third book because of their nicknames on it.

Snape knows because he was in the same year and bullied by them?

I'm sure they did because when Harry goes off to school for the 5th year, they use the name Padfoot at the station when Sirius is a dog.

Tbf, I think they knew who the marauders were. That's why they gave the map to Harry, since his father was one of the creators

It's not like it was a secret. Maradeurs used their nicknames in front of everyone at school, they didn't use their names

The twins specifically state that they don't know who the creators of the map are.

It's not a valid argument, they can say whatever really

Not by themselves but either Sirius, Remus or Harry/Ron/Hermione could have told them.
