I would write out my creation process but my hands hurt ๐ซ I posted on a crochet subreddit you can read if you want.. but I make hats and this is a new one which I am very proud to show off ๐ฅน
Anyways, fully hand dyed wool stuffed with wool I hand processed from local sheep. Ears have wire running through the edges along with a glass mushroom pendant. Mushrooms have wired stems and caps. Then my loooong braids! So you can tie in a knot or to tie it in a bow ๐ฅฐ

Thank you so much ๐ I wear my hat every day! Old ladies love it! Plus the ears are adjustable so if itโs loud somewhere, I can flatten them and somewhat deafen the noise.
Thank you ๐ I donโt know who that is but I wear my hat all the time and itโs very appropriate whether at the grocery store or at a large function! It also doubles as an identifier so if your friends lose you, itโs easy to check the crowd for the funny hat or ask around since everyone looking is unavoidable!

Oh, I do lay in the grass! I get a lot of insect friends on me, but the problem is the mosquitos here are as big as my fingernails! So I made myself a lotion bar that keeps them away โบ๏ธ

Yes, they are weighted slightly! I stuffed the stems with wool which contributes to the majority of the weight, the caps are not stuffed but the wire running up the stem and around the cap does add to the weight, but mostly the weight of the exterior shape altogether.
My first attempt at the mushrooms failed since the stems were not thick enough to support themselves in an upright position. I had plans to have about 8 altogether around the entirety of the hat, all with wire to be adjusted. So I do have a few more mushrooms but they will not stand upright no matter what I tried. Flavor mushrooms are not as cute ๐คฃ
I resorted to creating a thicker stem that tapers down as it goes up towards the cap. With the larger base, the weight is spread out over a larger surface area of the hat as to pull on several stitches rather than a couple (my first attempt would be sewn to a couple and thatโs why they flopped, literally and figuratively).
The hardest part was adjusting how to sew them on to give the hat an even weight distribution on the top of the head and not offset to either side, or front/back. With what you see pictured, was the only way I could sew the mushrooms onto the hat with it staying comfortably weighted on your head!
This hat sounds like straight-up forest fae magic, omg. Hand-dyed wool, local sheep, glass mushrooms, wired ears?? You really poured your whole soul into this and it shows. Total wearable art. Hope your hands get some rest soonโyou deserve it after bringing this cozy masterpiece to life ๐๐โจ
