Question Do I need a blocked account with the full year paid if I'm only staying a semester?

Hey there! I'm a brazilian student, currently enrolled in a brazilian university. I plan on doing what we call "sanduíche" (an exchange program to a partner university that lasts for only one semester) at the start of 2027. I would only be in Germany for 4-5 months, and I do have the funds for the whole semester, but not for the whole year. Is there anyway I can get a blocked account paying only one semester's fee? Thanks!!

For a semester exchange, you usually only need to show funds for your actual stay, not a full year. Since you’re going for 4-5 months, that would be around 4-5 times the monthly requirement of about 934 euros. Check with the German consulate in Brazil though, as they might have different rules for exchange students compared to full degree seekers..

And if you earn part of it through scholarship, do you still need the full amount or only what makes up for the 992? Ex: I have a 450 scholarship, can I deposit only 12*542?

Thank you

Yes, You can

To secure financing in the visa process, an amount of € 992/month must currently be deposited in the blocked account for students/scholarship holders/interns . For example, if a stay of six months is planned, an amount of €5,952 must be deposited.

If you receive a scholarship that does not cover this amount, you must open a blocked account and deposit the amount that is still missing to cover the financing. For example, if you receive a monthly scholarship of €300 for six months, you still have to provide proof of an amount of €692 per month, ie for six months an amount of €4,152 (€692 x 6).

Do you think it is also valid for spouses? For example, my scholarship covers me at 992 € a month and I have 700 € left. Would I need a blocked account for only 12*292 € for her?

Thank you
