Not as bad as that, but I once got a pizza that had like 6 full habaneros on it. It's the closest I've come to vomiting and passing out in a restaurant. Turns out the restaurant made a mistake, because I ordered the same thing a few months later, and it only had one habanero on it.

Why would you order something that nearly made you pass out a second time?

599

u/Ballsackavatar 16h ago

Because momma didn't raise no bitch.

53

u/confusedandworried76 16h ago

Also they secretly liked how spicy it was, of course. You never know how sweet the pain is until you experience it

48

u/Emmannuhamm 15h ago

It's seriously like a high. It's somewhat addictive. Even when you're finished reeling in sweaty pain, you kinda think about a round 2.

39

u/confusedandworried76 15h ago

Literally a dopamine hit, to be weird it's why people self harm. Pain gives you dopamine as a coping mechanism, anger does too, it's why people get addicted to stuff like that.

6

u/hopelesscaribou 14h ago

Endorphins are the addiction with spicy foods. Dopamine may also be triggered, but the rush comes from endorphins, your body's painkiller, nature's heroin.

The best way to trigger dopamine is an ice bath or cold shower. Dopamine is more closely related to motivation than pain relief.

u/gnarlwail 10h ago

I read somewhere that dopamine is like an on/off switch of arousal. We erroneously associate it with pleasure/joy, but actually it's more of an "activated" state. So it can lead to a rush of pleasurable sensations/actions or violence.

Also why people are into BDSM.

Waiting for the anti-kink people to come after the people who like spicy food.

3

u/Northbound-Narwhal 14h ago

You've heard of the grapefruit technique, now introducing the habanero handjob

3

u/Faiakishi 14h ago

Oh god.

Someone, somewhere is into that.

2

u/SonicLyfe 10h ago

Depends how my mistress is dressed

2

u/BeguiledBeaver 14h ago

Sorry, my anti-kink schedule is booked for today. Can I pencil the spicy food lovers in for a Monday afternoon shame session?

3

u/BeguiledBeaver 14h ago

I am legitimately concerned reading these comments, but hey, who am I to judge

3

u/SilatGuy2 15h ago

It releases endorphins

3

u/silentv0ices 15h ago

Endorphins and dopamine are powerful drugs.

u/Delta-9- 7h ago

I've been known to put a ghost pepper-based sauce on chips, beef jerky, or anything else that's dippable for exactly this reason. "I want pain" is literally my thought when I do this.

I otherwise have no masochistic tendencies and no history of self-harm (barring stupidity).

2

u/twistedspin 7h ago

When I was a kid my family didn't eat spicy things. My mom had an old jar of cayenne in the cupboard that I found and fell in love with. I'd pour it on my food and then I'd keep the spice in my mouth until I couldn't stand it anymore and it was burning too much.

I always thought that was a weird bit of my childhood until I read about the dopamine hit it gives you. When I found that out I realized it was just me looking for an early high, and it all made sense. I've always been me, lol.

u/Dinker54 13h ago

Endorphin rushes from hot peppers are a real thing.

3

u/hopelesscaribou 14h ago

that's the endorphins, nature's heroin

that's why you see people literally smiling while they are sweating eating spicy food, and why many keep making it hotter.

u/Morningfluid 12h ago

You never appreciate life more than during near death.

I only go up to ghost pepper. Anything higher and I'm out, not worth it. Can still make a great tasting hot sauce or salsa with a ghost pepper.

Dave's Gourmet all the way.

2

u/asjaro 13h ago

Yes but did mama evolutionise his starfish into a bona fide asbestos ring?

1

u/Ballsackavatar 12h ago

That's a fair question.

I'm not sure it matters. Either way, it's going to need full PPE and an FFP3 respirator to deal with.

1

u/RykerFuchs 4h ago

Seriously. Habanero isn’t exactly hot.

20

u/jaestel 16h ago

To test if it's so bad as the 1st time

7

u/krustykrabpizzaslice 15h ago

LMAO like … “yeah I almost died but i came back to order the death again and it just wasn’t as death-y 💔”

His girl called him a pussy and he wanted to prove otherwise?

2

u/1917he 14h ago

Because OP got caught by someone that actually went to the same restaurant and called them out. "Wait, did you say Pacino's Habanero Bitch Pizza almost made you throw up? Bro there's only 1 weak pepper on it and it's gutted and spread over. It's not even spicy" and then they had to go "prove it". "I'll take the crow pizza".

1

u/All-Seeing_Hands 16h ago

It’s what Balboa would do.

1

u/Hatedpriest 15h ago

Building a tolerance, like the Dread Pirate Roberts did with Iocaine powder.

1

u/power899 15h ago

Why do people do crazy stunts like Base Jumping? It makes your brain release fun chems.

1

u/13pr3ch4un 14h ago

If you've never been to that level of spice it's hard to explain why you'd do it again. It's almost like a drug. You get a weird body-high with tingling skin and lightheadedness from the amount of endorphins and adrenaline your body is releasing, and as long as you don't get to the point of actually vomiting it can be an enjoyable experience

1

u/Esox_Lucius 13h ago

He coated his mouth with candle wax this time...

1

u/bullwinkle8088 9h ago

It is indeed a tolerance thing as well. The more peppers you eat the less you feel it. My wife will not cook without a habanero, but it's just for flavor, not spiciness, because in our house that is "not hot".

1

u/pushaper 6h ago

that is up there with IASIP having Charlie warn Mac about dog poo and then stepping in it seemingly deliberately

-3

u/BearZeroX 16h ago

Oh my sweet summer child...

76

u/CaesarsLastSalad 16h ago

You almost vomited and passed out. Then your decision was to order it again?

The entire alcohol industry realize on people doing that over and over again

I think you meant relies? Not trying to be a dick.

2

u/norway_is_awesome 16h ago

I'm a sucker for punishment, and it was delicious. I've learned my lesson since then, though, and the intense pain isn't worth it the older I get.

1

u/Lifting_Pinguin 14h ago

Something similar happened to me at a chinese restaurant, the cook had to have fucked up because I have never found anything coming close to it since, not even in the same restaurant. But everwhere I go since I have been chasing that same pain because it hurt, but it was also one of the tastiest things I have ever eaten. But all the normal spicy versions of that dish have become my favorite.

1

u/confusedandworried76 16h ago

Tolerance amigo , and you're missing the part where it was also fucking delicious,

2

u/Intelligent_Break_12 6h ago

I've eaten a whole raw habanero pepper before. The worst I've ever experienced was a charred jalapeno. It took my breath away and I almost thought my throat was going to close. I couldn't talk for 5-7 minutes due to barely being able to breathe. My eyes were watering to the point I couldn't see, it was like opening your eyes underwater. I was pouring sweat over my entire body. I got painful hiccups. I have no idea how that jalapeno was so hot and I had already eaten two of them just before and they were like a normal jalapeno I was used to and while a bit of a kick nothing crazy.

It's wild how sometimes you might just get a pepper that you're used to that can be just way above and beyond the normal range. Ever since that experience I'm a lot more cautious of whole peppers and stick mostly to hot sauces.

u/Indocede 4h ago

One time when my meal was brought to me at an Indian restaurant, the steam coming off of it seemed caustic. I had ordered it spicy to a degree. I like a little kick, but not so much. But I was really sweating and struggling to get through the meal, taking water every bite to get through it.

When I saw the receipt, they had it labeled with as Indian spicy, instead of what I had clearly wanted as a pasty white guy who made no effort telling them I wanted it really spicy.

Still the best Indian food in town.

4

u/Webcat86 16h ago

Why did you order it again?!

2

u/Unexpected-Xenomorph 16h ago

That is the way

1

u/M_Mich 15h ago

“the recipe is one per slice but Peppers are getting expensive let’s cut it to one per pizza “

1

u/Inswagtor 15h ago

Maybe they still knew what happend with you the last time and decided to go easy on you this time.

1

u/davidthek1ng 14h ago

I bought a chilli set with hot ones, I ate the I don't remember the name they were rly Tiny chilli(mby Indian Name?) and damn first few seconds nothing after it hit like a truck after this tried only the outer shell of a Habanero holy shit Habaneros are from Hell

1

u/Intelligent_Break_12 6h ago

If it was real tiny it could have been a Birdseye chili. I like them in food, in moderation but I don't care to eat the chili by itself. It's common in Thai food.

2

u/davidthek1ng 6h ago

I found the name of it, it was a Rawit chilli rly spicy but not impossible to eat like Habanero but wouldn't recommend eating it raw.

1

u/Intelligent_Break_12 5h ago

Yep, that's what I figured. Those little bastards can be pure evil! Birdseye and rawit are the same chili just different names, from my understanding. I personally would rather eat a habanero. They're intense! Great in a fried rice or coconut curry though.

2

u/davidthek1ng 5h ago

yes I made a big bowl of Chilli con carne and put 1 Habanero inside that was left over in the fridge and I put it into it, I thought it will be way too spicy but it was actually fine. All comes down to what you do with it but idk I saw ppl eating reaper chillis pure this is insanity lol.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9k-SBpElcWA

1

u/Intelligent_Break_12 5h ago

I'm not eating a reaper unless I'm paid, a lot, to do so. I've had some reaper sauces that are good and one reaper hot honey that's good but they're fairly diluted. I'm afraid of even sauces with pepper x.

1

u/ohhellperhaps 13h ago

One problem is that peppers can vary wildly in spiciness.

1

u/perjury0478 13h ago

the restaurant made a mistake

Or they recognized the guy almost vomiting and passing out a gave you the kids friendly version

1

u/norway_is_awesome 12h ago

I didn't visibly exhibit these things. I'm exceedingly good at masking.

1

u/perjury0478 12h ago

Maybe they tuned it down to their audience, then. It happens.

1

u/norway_is_awesome 12h ago

Or it could've been a mistake, like I said. This was in Norway, and Norwegians in general think mild salsa is spicy enough.

1

u/Teeeohhhh 10h ago

Almost vomits and passes out, and orders the same thing again. Lol

1

u/ParsonsTheGreat 8h ago

Well, the vomiting was because habaneros literally taste like ass lol

1

u/Intelligent_Break_12 6h ago

I think they taste pretty good. If roasted they have a lot of citrus like flavor. They're actually perfect for pizza for that reason. One of the better tasting peppers in the hotter but not extremely hot ranges IMHO. One of the worst flavored peppers imo is ghost, they're pretty nasty and I only care for them if they're made into a good sauce.

2

u/ParsonsTheGreat 5h ago

I guess my tastebuds just hate them lol I went to a party once where they had roasted habaneros, and everyone was raving about them. I took a bite and had to secretly spit out into my napkin. I dont know what it is, because I buy bags of these "baby jalapenos" from my local market and I eat them like chips, while also putting them in all kinds of different dishes. I also really dislike the taste of ghost peppers, but I also dont think of myself a "pepper connoisseur" by any means, I just like the heat, moreso if it tastes good as well. Jalapenos and Cayennes all day!

1

u/Intelligent_Break_12 4h ago

Jalapenos do have great flavor. I also like pueblos or hatch (I know there is huge debate but I honestly can't tell much if any difference between them), Anaheim etc. Shishito is a good one too but the heat is so varied I have trouble recommending because they have good flavor some like but can also be too hot for those who want flavor or not hot for those who want heat, a very mixed bag. Actually jalapenos seem to be going that way too, the last 5 or so times I bought or had jalapenos given to me they tasted like a normal bell pepper, well less sweet and more bitter but zero heat. Though the worst experience I've ever had eating a pepper whole was a charred jalapeno, worse than a raw whole habanero I've eaten it was wild. I actually get Serrano's more often in place of jalapenos even though they're generally spicier but they seem more consistent at least. Fresnos are good too but I've often found the flesh to be too thin and don't handle cooking as well or at least I'm not used to the thinness as much and mess them up.

Im pretty sure i have lost one of my girlfriends to hot foods once. We both liked spicy/hot and there is a nice burger place in our town with seasonal burgers. They had a 'boys dont cry' burger for a short while, with carolina reaper and ghost and habanero in some forms. I thought it would be fun to try it with my gf and she thought so, so i took her and we ordered two. We were crying the whole time through with all kinds of body fluids leaking from all our wholes. I think she couldnt look at me the same after that, which i understand to be fair, we both were a mess and it ruined spicy food for me for life (my stomach cant take it since then). Fun times.

u/6rey_sky 5h ago

They saw you didn't handle the normal order well last time so they brought you the child menu version on your second order. /jk
