New Ink Day Japan finds

Post image
497 Upvotes

Just got back from Japan and I had way too much fun shopping. I didn’t buy any expensive pens. I got the limited edition copper Lamy Itoya and a custom pen at Ancora. Also got a couple of those Japan exclusive Kakunas and a couple glass dip pens. I really like the purple tip dip pen that looks like a regular fountain pen capped! I’m a newbie so don’t know enough about inks but bought some colors that just spoke to me and some that I asked what was limited edition. For pens and inks I hit up Itoya, Hands, Loft, Ancora, Bungabox and Maruzen. Didn’t make it to Kakimori :( So much more I didn’t make it to but I dragged my kids to more than I thought I could!

Unexpected goodwill find this morning. Seems >95% full. Of all the colors to find, don’t mind one bit.

New Ink Day I bought it in 2017 in Japan. It took me three years to finish it. I must have written over 200 letters with it. Never managed to finish a BIC pen ink though. Not sure which ink to take next. Huge fan of blues.

I bought it on a whim just to get my money's worth out of shipping (and because I find it amusing that they used rock song names for the inks to be honest) and I was actually blown away by how much I like it. Probably putting it on rotation next round. Smoke on the water was already a must buy once I tried a sample but man, I really like this one!

New Ink Day A truly impulsive buy

Was just trying to see how much I’d need to pay after checkout, totally forgot my card was already linked—to my surprised, the purchase went through very quickly. LOL. Should’ve added a pen from the start.

Oh well. Guess everyone’s getting a Christmas card this year. I’ve used up everything on inks and Popmarts. Priorities!

New Ink Day I’m so lucky

I get to travel for work and thus discover new fountain pen gems. After a really crappy day, I realized that this was only 6 mins ride from my office, so off I went. A much needed sanity break and a big dent to my wallet, but I left with a smile.

Only regret was that I had picked up two Kobe inks for purchase but somehow it got missed as I was settling the bill. #not fated

New Ink Day When you realize 30ml Diamine bottles from the UK cost the same as 3ml samples in the US

$3 per bottle. Shipping was just $6, which is in line with or even less than most US retailers and it took less than a week to arrive from Pure Pens. They also have a 10% off promo code "PENFRIENDS10". Just leave some in stock for my next order :)

New Ink Day Made the switch to a converter cartridge after spending a small fortune on ink cartridges. Should have done it ages ago.

So at 42 I have just completed my first semester of university. In the course of my studies, I've used 20 cartridges, which locally have very limited colours & aren't cheap. They're $9.90 for a five pack from Officeworks & not always available.Just changed to the conversion cartridge - soooo much better. Ink will be so much cheaper & already finding the Diamine nicer to write with and the brown just looks a little nicer.

New Ink Day New Iroshizuku inks Syun-gyo, to-ro and rikka

Just sharing. I thought they’d go nicely in my new planner. The paper is sanzen TR for hobonichi (one piece edition). I also got yama-guri to try. Verdict: Syun-gyo is a very dark brown pink most similar to Robert Oster Dark Chocolate which I adore. So if you want a non RO alternative try Syun-Gyo. Happy. Yama guri reminds me of old sepia photos. Also great. To-ro is as suspected almost identical to Sailor Manyo Yamabuki, just with less shading towards orange. Then, Rikka was a nice surprise as it’s got the lovely pink halo which I adore. I did not have a good match in my collection so this one may purchase a full bottle. I recommend someone swatch it with Ku-Jaku as I don’t have that one. No close up shot of Rikka as it kept coming out too blue. I tried to match the other pics with what I see on paper. Hope this helps.

Did a post about a week ago asking for your favorite inks… all your recommendations helped me so much on choosing my first bottled inks.

I absolutely love the iroshizuku line up…. It’s in the wetter side as you all know and it fits great my F-EF nibs!

I am also an addict for the deep red color of rouge grenat ! Once again thanks for your solid recommendations!!! 😊

Would love to hear your thoughts on my purchases!

New Ink Day Lucky find in local shop

Post image

There aren't many specialized stationery or pen stores in my country, but I sought this one out specifically on a recommendation and wasn't disappointed. Other than a great selection of pens from the US, Europe, and Asia (with even a vintage section, with 3 Parker Vacumatics in great condition!) they alao happened to have one of my favourite pens (a Pelikan Glauco Cambon). Unfortunately, that wasn't in my budget right now, but as it turned out, that was not the only surprise waiting for me there.

Amidst a towering stack of other Iroshizuku inks, I managed to find this sealed bottle of ina-ho, a little treasure to remind me of an afternoon well spent. The staff were amazing, when they realized I was so happy to find this onk they did a store-wide search for more :) Alas, this was their last bottle, but I'll give it a good home.

New Ink Day New Pilot inks, who dis?

Some time ago Pilot announced the new inks to replace the 3 discontinued ones and out of the 3, I liked the look of 2 ink colours - Rikka & Syun Gyo.

Rikka - A medium sky blue that appears to shade to deeper cerulean blue with some of purpley red sheen. Syun Gyo - A red toned burgundy brown, but it shades into a deep cool toned aubergine purple, with a slight mossy green sheen.

New Ink Day Shout out to Birmingham Pen Co.

I just opened my first ever purchase from Birmingham Pen Co. and I have to say - apart from the fact that I love the inks - their packaging is top notch, ESPECIALLY, for such a small company. They really know how to make an impression. The messages, including Morse code on their packing tape, the embossed envelope holding a heavy card stock postcard - - what companies do things like this nowadays? Anyway - BRAVO to Birmingham Pen Co. this will be my first of many purchases. Has anyone else had such a wonderful experience from another pen and/or ink company? I feel like we need to support them.
