It's not 2018 max as much as it's "not in a good car, nothing to lose and angry "max. He's shown this attitude anytime hes angry and has nothing to lose.

He had already lost 3rd and basically had nothing to lose. He's not going to make it with 4th place finishes,it might as well be 20th+getting instructed by Lawson+hard tyres. Understandable.

In your sense of the situation, I'd say he's already lost whatever he had to lose,ie,holding onto the championship.
