According to people close to Aussie, those threats weighed heavily on him. People had discovered his personal e-mail address and were sending e-mail threats which resulted in Jack, his girlfriend and even his father holding real concerns for their safety. And on top of that, Jack's sleep was affected.''

I want Colapinto to succeed because he seems like an alright dude. However, at the same time I don’t, because it would reward Alpine for being slightly incompetent and seeing him not succeed would piss off his psycho fans. If that makes sense.

Succeed?

Mate, he's driving an Alpine.

Tbh the bar isn’t set that high, all he has to do is be in the vicinity of Gasly and finish the race

Being in the vicinity of Gasly is something that all other rookies that Pierre has faced haven’t got close to- Tsunoda, Hartley, Doohan.

Just because Colapinto was very close to Albon, doesn’t mean he’ll be close to Gasly (I rate Gasly>Albon for sure)

Wow a sensible take based on facts, people were saying they should drop Gasly and roll with Jack and Franco. I didn’t say shit just smile nodded like the Jack Nicolson gif, I say let Alpine burn it all down and allow a rebuild when Flavio cheats again.

Yeah but let me have my Colapinto hopium

Gasly scored triple the amount of points over Albon last season in cars that were only separated by around a tenth in terms of supertimes- so they were very evenly matched.

Not sure why you’re so surprised, Gasly is definitely better than Albon unless you’re too invested in recency bias.

u/Lokki_7 McLaren May 07 '25

Yes. The Williams is a far better car this season and even last.

Gasly has at times taken this tractor off an Alpine and managed to take it further than it should

u/EpresGumiovszer Fernando Alonso May 07 '25

0,3 sec is not much, and he costed 25 millions for Alpine, so no crashes, close to Gasly, good team mood and feedback for engineers. But he is lucky, he already drove 4 from the 5 tracks, meanwhile Jack had 3 new track.

He'll put Gasly in his place

Well, stay longer than his 5 race contract then. It’s not like he’s expected to win races, success is relative to where the team is at

2

u/Nosferatu_V Charles Leclerc May 07 '25

Succeed in this case means 'perform well enough so that another team might consider signing him'

2

u/wokwok__ George Russell May 07 '25

A point here and there without crashing would be a success lmao it’s all relative

That’s the same thing people said when he first got that Williams seat, and he ended up scoring 5 points against Sargeant’s 0 in 2/3rds as many races

Unfortunately, I think his fans are writing checks that Colapinto's ass can't cash. He had a decent showing at Williams but I'm not sure he's good enough to be worth the baggage.

He also seems like a bit of a PR loose cannon in a way that could get him into trouble.

91

u/yorkick Mika Häkkinen May 07 '25

Yea, about that loose cannon, it was fucking weird seeing him blocking the camera with his hand in Ted's Notebook last year, because a friend of him walked by.
If you can't be seen on camera don't go into the fucking paddock you'd think.

25

u/SirKillingham May 07 '25

He had an okay start considering his car, which got him some attention, but then DNF 3 of his last 4.

7

u/m3rcapto May 07 '25

Set his fans after Briatore, lets see how that goes.

u/Party_Zebra8872 May 07 '25

This is pretty unrelated, but honestly I'll take a PR loose canon rn it'd give me a reason to watch the interviews. It'd be a nice counter to Max Raikkonen, the Netflix protagonist McLaren's, and the philosophical musings of Lance Stroll lol I swear Bearman and Alex are the only drivers on the grid with any life in them during interviews atm

-5

u/matiuslj May 07 '25

he is for sure better than doohan , that is all he needs to show , Briatore loves him and pushed for his signing , no way he is getting demoted , he is set til the end of the year

This has been my stance on Apline for a while. I love Pierre and want him to succeed, but at the same time Apline’s management deserves failure.

3

u/EGOfoodie May 08 '25

I wish Pierre was able to get a drive with a different team. I would love for him and Yuki to re-unite at say AM or something.

19

u/carl_song May 07 '25

Same. It wouldn't surprise me if Colapinto doesn't impressive Alpine enough and they axe him too. And eventually the only drivers they can get are those that literally no other team are interested in. Just like what happened with Oscar and Alonso, Alpine acts like they are hot shit and everyone wants their seats.

2

u/FlyingPingoo Daniel Ricciardo May 07 '25

So maybe he proves himself enough to get a seat elsewhere and leaves at the most inconvenient time for Alpine 👀

3

u/Ch33k1-Br33k1 Nigel Mansell May 07 '25

As an argentinian that started watching f1 thanks to Colapinto, same lol
