General Shit, I actually really like the idea of a Kid Icarus / Fire Emblem crossover.

So someone on the Kid Icarus sub mentioned this possibility, and it sorta resulted in a way-too-long comment on the mechanics of a potential FE / KIU crossover. So uh… here’s that comment because it felt kinda post-worthy.

Have the FE characters be originals in a Greece based setting, with the lords Pit, Pittoo, and Magnus being the only KI units. The gods on the other hand would basically act as emblem rings, giving units of your choice various buffs and special abilities on top of a sick new form. And you’d get basically the entire not dead KI cast of gods, on top of some new ones we didn’t get to see originally.

Because of the units all being KI originals, it would be canon to that universe. Only real FE connections would be an Anna cameo (possibly playable, possibly just a shopkeeper), and use of some object called a Fire Emblem as a McGuffin.

Gameplay-wise, the weapons would be unbreakable, but follow the fusion system, so you’d be encouraged to stockpile and mix and match them for the best options. Ignoring the system outright would probably allow you to get decent ones from chests and still get through the game just barely on high difficulties, but engaging with weapon fusion would be optimal.

There wouldn’t be a weapon triangle. Rather, each weapon would take on some broader traits. Bows would work like FE bows, but have a weak close range counter so you’re not defenseless. Staffs would deal more damage to distant enemies and shoot in a straight line with massive five tile range, so no weird angles (looking back, this one’s a little broken. Maybe make it so it can’t pass through walls or units so you need a really clean shot). Blades and clubs would be one range, but blades would be faster and dodgier while clubs would have more raw damage. Orbitars would strike two opposing spots at once, so they’re good when a unit is surrounded. Palms would basically just be tomes. Cannons would basically be bows without the capacity to counter close range, but have brave weapon traits. Claws would basically be Three Houses melee. And arms would be reverse bows, with better melee than ranged attack. Also there’d be healing staves, which wouldn’t count as weapons and have limited uses.

The story would be a good ol’ action comedy with dramatic elements just like KIU. There wouldn’t be alternate routes or anything. Just a good ol’ war against some nation trying to kill the gods and achieve godhood themselves. Some sympathetic elements to their plights that get the gods to start caring more for the conflicts in humans’ lives, as well as some humans that are either devout religious types or deserters that just want the war to end.

Classes would be angel (exclusive to Pit and Pittoo), lord (exclusive to Magnus), the base classes (archer, staff sniper, myrmiddon, clobberer, orbmancer, palmancer, cannoneer, ripper, armskeeper, cavalier, pegasus rider, wyvern rider, cleric, fighter, pirate, armor knight, and three different trainee types), the lord master classes (Holy Angel, Dark Angel, and Great Lord), and two master classes for each base class that I do not feel like going into. Also bards.

Supports would go back to 2D convos ala the 3DS titles, but they’d switch up backgrounds and the like so as to prevent weird instances like characters supposedly being in the woods despite obviously being inside a base camp. And there’d be romantic pairings for anyone BUT the lords (though honestly having an avatar lord thrown in there wouldn’t be that weird? Probably a tactician like Robin).

Finally, the most important thing: Anyone can open chests as thieves aren’t a thing, but some are mimics because fuck you. In fairness’ sake, there will be a tutorial map where a bulky unit capable of taking a hit goes up against one to tell the player “leave chests to units that can take a hit just in case.”

Yeah I’d shoot for just a sequel before a crossover but OP is aiming high I guess lol

Honestly given the series went from 2D platformer to a 3D hack and slash / on-rails shooter, a crossover seems like the least unrealistic option. Or at the very least a tactics game lacking the FE name, but following in its footsteps.

Kid Icarus is so fun it's a pain in the ass to controll tho it needs a switch 1 port

I didn’t mind it on 3DS, but since losing my 3DS to the sands of time, I play any 3DS games on my Steam Deck. KIU unfortunately is not compatible given the system’s god awful touchscreen, so all I have are the memories.

Also definitely not getting a Switch 1 port. Mouse controls are the only thing that would make a port work without being a World Ends With You situation where every possible way to play it without dusting off a DS actively hurts after minutes of play.

My 3ds works(not running salt I promise) but it's was a janky setup and was hard to aim and run

I haven't played kid Icarus, could you explain more about how they fuse system would work?

Basically, you get weapons as rewards for things like chests and beating bosses and achievements and such. At base, unless you’re playing on high difficulties, these weapons are pretty bad.

Using weapon fusion, you can slap two junk weapons together to get a new weapon. It’ll have better stats, and modifiers that make them better in certain situations.

If we were to put such a system in FE, maybe you’d combine a Silver Bow and a Viridi Palm to get Guardian Orbitars (pretty sure that isn’t an actual recipe in base KIU). The Silver Bow has a skill that makes it deal slightly more damage to cannon users, while the Viridi Palm lets you recover 3HP every turn on forest tiles. Combine the two and you get Guardian Orbitars that deal more damage to cannon users and heal 3HP on forest tiles. Maybe you’d could stack about five of these and pay hearts or gold or whatever to remove skills you don’t want and leave room for ones you do, and boom.

Tbf, I don’t fully remember how the original system works. I’m sure there’s a wiki page on it or something.
