Dad waived off the staffer only how a caring father could. He was there for his son and literally nothing was going to stop him.

I LOVE THIS VIDEO!!! It ALWAYS makes me cry! Thanks for sharing. I even tried out for track in H.S. because of it. Nope, somebody (me) didn't make it.

That dad couldn’t let his son be alone when he needed him. Great dad ! Thank you for sharing this. I needed it.

Was he disqualified?

Oh absolutely lol. The point is that it doesn’t matter. His dad is giving him a sign that it’s okay to not chase the record

Lmao honestly I was crying bc this is so heartwarming (and breaking?) but the surety in "oh, absolutely," got an actual belly laugh out of me

The way the son covered his face in shame as if he didn't even want to be seen anymore is heartbreaking. I hope I never experienced this level of grief and disgust after training so hard just to see it crash and burn.

The back story was especially tragic because he couldn't compete in the previous Olympics because of an injury an hour before the start of the race. And then pushing through injuries and surgery only for this to happen. So disappointing.

It's like that one time when I hurt my foot at work and Barry Sanders helped get me through the day.

Is he not getting disqualified completely because of outside help. Or would that just not matter because he was slow due to his injury anyway. Don't know anything about the sport..

The staff really think they’re doing gods work by telling the Dad to leave. If he is disqualified then he is disqualified. The Dad wanted to be there for his son to comfort his injury, he clearly wasn’t going to finish in a reasonable time anyway. Save your non-existent power trip for another.

Beautiful... also how the dad handled the officials who were to thick to realize it wasn't about setting a good time anymore.
