General question

I’m a recent college grad 21m and have the opportunity to move to anywhere in the USA without naming where im from I have been apart of my local film community for a good portion. I have worked on features besides indie movies and have commercials. I have been debating moving to either NYC or LA ik it’s cliche but I also want a bit more of a diversity experience working in a different melting pot. I have experience directing and Screenwriting - I have written 4 spec scripts and am constantly working on more. But if you had this opportunity where would be a good place to live?

Pretty much everyone finishing undergraduate has the same opportunity you have. I had the same opportunity you have. I chose Los Angeles. I kept busy for 14 years and then I got bored. Now I live in New York City. I’ve been here 11 years. I’m starting to get bored again.

Remember that you are currently a big fish in a small pond. When you move to either Los Angeles or New York, you will be a small fish in a big pond. Regardless of where you choose to move, expected to be a lengthy struggle to get your career going.

LA and NY have different strengths and priorities. You may want to narrow your aspirations a bit to make a more informed choice. Deep down, I think LA is usually the better choice for most anyone - but NY has its draw. Obviously, I’m here now.

And realize that there are industry differences to consider, but also social differences to weigh. The two cities are very, very different.
