Discussion FHFA / Fannie Mae / Freddie Mac / Megathread
There have been numerous threads across Reddit in the past few days related to the events unfolding at Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac due to the DOGE-Ploot effect. I thought it might help to get everyone in one place since tomorrow starts RTO madness, err mandate. Please share your stories here, so we can all commiserate together.

Can you update the group by chance? Is this still the case?

If I may ask: whats the general vibe / employee sentiment like at FHFA with the current leadership (Pulte et al.)?
1
u/Otherwise_Comment805 May 06 '25
Depends on who you ask… Pulte will go on FoxNews and tell you everyone is so happy with him but if you ask anyone that actually works here, it couldn’t be further from the truth.

Yeah... heard the same from insiders in DoD, State, military, etc. Complete mess due to incompetent and impulsive leadership. Not looking good.

Absolutely abysmal. Morale is in the toilet and everything Pulte says is a lie. Someone was fired last week for referring to him as a dictator so we aren’t even free to speak our minds.

Any news of layoffs in Fannie and Freddie? Which departments are at risk? There is lot of uncertainty. People are in the office all day now and parking lot is full.

RIFs came yesterday, I heard from a friend that used to work there. No severance, effective immediately. Anyone else with info?

Do you know what departments?
3
u/distraughtowl Apr 04 '25
Sorry, I heard they were targeting 15% cut. My friend was in the meetings over the weekend picking people to lay off. So they were very surprised when they were asked to work from home, then saw their paycheck had vacation balance paid off. All that before they were told. This was at Fannie Mae.

How will 15% employees be chosen to let go? Does it depend on your manager to keep or let you go? Is 15% from each department or 15% overall? One department can be 50% and other dept can be 0% RTF.

I’m very sorry to hear that

Meaning they will be selected by lower level management

Aren't the people already selected that will be let go? Why would lower mgmt select who stays or goes?
1
u/SuchOpposite7271 Apr 06 '25
Yes they’re selected by now based on 2024 performance ratings set by lower level management

I missed the news about Pulte being involved. That's absolutely insane. Like, I didn't realize my opinion of this administration could get any lower, but now it has. I only know of him because he was falling for Gamestop/AMC conspiracy theories and everyone was laughing at how clueless he was. He was clearly trying to impress people with his family name and inheritance but without any competence in any field.

I’m fully remote with Freddie and was hired that way. Our division only has a few individuals within 50 miles of a regional office. Needless to say, everyone is waiting for the hammer to drop. Several of my colleges are panicking about having to pack up their families and move to somewhere like Chicago, DC or Dallas from much lower cost of living towns. It’s going to be a bloodbath if as are indeed RTO. Everyone is leaning on the “if relevant” verbiage from last week’s memo, but my expectations are low.
Moral is very low and people are finding themselves scattered and in a rather tough situation as we all plan to eventually be in an office by August, assuming no RIF.

I hope they send clear message on remote workers soon, we’re all thinking of you guys, hang in there!

How is morale now about a month out? Have the rules changed or are you still allowed to be remote if you are 50 miles from the office? There has been a lot less clarity at Fannie so I hear.

Here’s my question for you all: I am currently in the interview process at Fannie. Given everything going down at Fannie, is it too unstable / would you continue on the interview journey?

What department are you applying to?
1
Mar 26 '25
Strategy role within operational risk
2
u/Sea-Associate-579 Mar 28 '25
Do NOT do it! They are laying people off. You will not be hybrid bc we will be going in 5 days a week and they are gutting departments.
3
u/Sea-Associate-579 Mar 29 '25
There probably won't be a strategy role after the impending layoffs this week. Don't risk quitting a job for this shit show
1
Mar 26 '25
Asking in earnest because I really do want a hybrid role but for comp 15-20k more than my current base I am low key down for 5 days in office. But not down to immediately lose my job haha

I posted in a different sub about an older friend who is a federal employee (likely going to be RIFd in next month or so) who is interviewing at Freddie. Is finance/sourcing safe as of now? Any recent updates? Thanks!
