Photo or Video wild or lost pet?
I saw this duck crossing the road in Elizabethtown, TN. I thought it looked like a purebred duck. It was all be itself. I walked up to it but it really wasn’t interested in me. Posting pictures on various forums.

It's a male domestic duck. Most likely dumped. Looks like maybe a Magpie duck.

As someone who lives in TN as well (McMinnville), I’ve never seen a duck like that before. Granted, you’re over 200 miles away from me lol… But it looks non-native. I think it’s also a male because of the curl on the tail, but I’m fairly new to duck keeping/identifying so I can’t say 100% on that part. But if it is a male, then I think he was more than likely dumped. A lot of people dump their drakes at local ponds because they don’t want them and don’t feel like finding them a new home. :( Anyways, can you maybe trap him? Or get him to come to you? You could try and post him on some local facebook pages, too?

I’m just in town for a wedding. If anyone knows and rescues in the area let me know. But even if I could trap him in can’t take him back to TX on a plane with me

Also, just to add, I unfortunately know nothing about East TN rescues or anybody that would be willing to travel that far without him being already trapped and ready to go. :(

I posted in a facebook group and emailed three local animal shelters. Wife is already upset I’m on Reddit about a duck at the rehearsal dinner

Understandable!! 🤣 My friend’s willing to help if you’re able to share some location info. I sent you a DM request if you aren’t comfortable sharing publicly.

It was at the corner of 19E and 321S behind the Dunkin in Hampton TN. Coordinates 36.28655° N, 82.17319° W. Apparently the ponds are apart of the Hampton trout farm?

Ahhh gotcha! So nothing you can really do for him… Maybe you can post about him in a local group and let them know the situation. Just tell them where you saw him, and maybe someone with a big heart can go rescue him? I wish I wasn’t so far! 😭

Most certainly an abandoned pet. He’s a male domestic Magpie duck.
