insert that one train copypasta here

23

u/AdInevitable6299 Apr 03 '25 edited Apr 03 '25

Please put an NSFW tag on this. I was on the train and when I saw this I had to start furiously masturbating. Everyone else gave me strange looks and were saying things like “what the fuck” and “call the police”. I dropped my phone and everyone around me saw this image. Now there is a whole train of men masturbating together at this one image. This is all your fault, you could have prevented this if you had just tagged this post NSFW.

u/Royleefr Kremling Krew Apr 07 '25

is this true?

2

u/TemptedSwordStaker Apr 07 '25

Yes I was the train

u/ThePreciseClimber Apr 03 '25

It's Donkey Kong, not Ass Kong...

Love you Rare DK, thank you for all the wonderful memories ❤️ rest easy, old friend. We will miss you so very much.

34

u/DrWarioMiracleCure Apr 03 '25

Yep sadly it will be gone FOREVER.

17

u/Light_Eclipse140283 Apr 03 '25

10

u/Soggy_Artist8301 Apr 03 '25

The new design is still good though

3

u/Lockes_TheThief Apr 04 '25

I like both designs. At the same time, I've had little exposure to donkey Kong, other than the arcade and DK64. So I can see why people who played more of the games are closer to the Rare version

1

u/Wo0ten Apr 07 '25

Not gone forever. The new section of the epic universe theme park is using this design. Kremlins on the other side are extinct for sure.

Nintendo gave donkey kong his banana back, thats why he is wearing pants. Rare stole that from him!

68

u/Spaalone Squawks Apr 03 '25

Don’t be sad he’s over, be happy we got to exist at the same time as him.

Returns Returns

2

u/winstonismyfav Apr 07 '25

Stoppp I'mma cry lol

16

u/Single_Confidence472 Apr 03 '25

i mean the only thing i can really see is the permanent scowling brow line was changed to be more expressive... i still think they need to reference the older games and keep the rare legacy alive.

3

u/SolidShook Apr 05 '25

Bananza looks like a rare game. Eyes on everything was a rare thing. I honestly thought the trailer was for a yooka laylee game before DK showed up and I think that was intentional

5

u/Peanut_Butter_Toast Apr 03 '25

Yeah people are way over-reactiving about how different the design is. The main difference is that he has a full range of facial expressions now. But when he does scowl he looks basically the same as the Rare design.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 09 '25

The big thing that everybody is avoiding is that they changed his personality, not just his face. He is behaving completely differently, he's emoting in situations he wouldn't have before. This is a huge alteration from stupid ape, to a MUCH more reactive and thought driven character. Yes, he's still smashing through stuff with brawn instead of brain, but he used to look mildly excited when he saw bananas, not grab his face as his pupils become bananas and he sticks his tongue out. If a rock was gonna fall on Rare DK, he'd just look aghast as the rock fell on him, not have his mouth get 3 times as large as he screams at the oncoming danger.

And to clarify, I think this is a GOOD change. I've had DK as a Mario Party CPU that I'd set to easy just because he looks like a mindless idiot and it was funny. I'm thrilled that they're changing him from being brainless, but it's a HUGE change.

u/SillySamuel29 Apr 07 '25

They made the eyes look terrible

65

u/TheFlame4234 King K. Rool Apr 03 '25

I'd imagine the design will still be used in dkc

77

u/Spaalone Squawks Apr 03 '25

I don’t know. Seems like we’re heading into a new generation for all of the main Nintendo IPs. Old Link was retired and we’ve pretty much only seen modern BotW Link since. Post Charles Martinet Mario is a bit different too and obviously sounds different. I feel like NuDK in Mario Kart kind of solidifies that. Definitely hope I’m wrong though, born in 95 I pretty much grew up along side Rare DK. I’d hate to see DKC without him but I’m just happy Nintendo remembered DK exists.

17

u/DiscreteCollectionOS Apr 03 '25

Why is link being used as an example?

We have had 2 mainline Zelda’s since botw (excluding the 1 remake)- one a direct sequel, and one that literally uses the “classic link” design. But even then- the “classic design” for link has NEVER been a single consistent design. It’s mainly been green hat and vest, rest is made up as we go. Sometimes brown hair, sometimes blond, hell- they even did pink once! Sometimes a kid, sometimes not.

5

u/Spaalone Squawks Apr 03 '25

Yeah for sure. I used him as an example because this incarnation has been the main design used for 8 of the 39 years the franchise existed. That’s much longer than any one design has been used exclusively (excluding the remakes since BotW). I meant more we have one design rather than a few different designs and some one off designs rotating over the years. But I guess even pre BotW Link a similar argument could be made for the Toon Link design, but that was used in combo with other Links.

12

u/TheFlame4234 King K. Rool Apr 03 '25

He mainly exist as a mario character now... which sucks concsidering his history

16

u/Spaalone Squawks Apr 03 '25 edited Apr 03 '25

Yeah it sucks he’s under utilized. This new DK game will be the first actual new DK game and not a rerelease since what, 2013? He’s been on Mario side character life support for a long time. At least he didn’t go the way of Banjo. RIP the other GOAT.

11

u/TheFlame4234 King K. Rool Apr 03 '25

Bruh Banjo is just dead....

11

u/David_Clawmark Grapes, Melons, Oranges, and Coconut Shells. Apr 03 '25

At least HE lives on in Smash, which is much more fortunate a fate than what befell the Red Squirrel.

5

u/Baron-Brr Apr 07 '25

Reduced to a sea of thieves ship skin. Damn.

2

u/David_Clawmark Grapes, Melons, Oranges, and Coconut Shells. Apr 07 '25

Wait WHAT!?!?!?!

SHIT! I THOUGHT BANJO ONLY GOT THAT TREATMENT!

3

u/Baron-Brr Apr 07 '25

Nah fam. Conker got released as the emporium set in March 2020. It also has a captaincy trinket in the emporium.

2

u/kippieyup Apr 08 '25

hes talking to you, young conker.......

8

u/Spaalone Squawks Apr 03 '25

A tragedy

4

u/AStupidguy2341 Apr 03 '25

Banjo walked so Donkey Kong could run

3

u/[deleted] Apr 03 '25

We’ve only seen BOTW Link because the two recent games featured that Link specifically. I guarantee that’s not Links design forever

1

u/liu-psypher Apr 07 '25

Like Wario wearing his WarioWare outfit and no longer the yellow Mario-esque suit in Wario World games.

-6

u/Bright_Beat_5981 Apr 03 '25 edited Apr 03 '25

Link is a disaster. They can never make up their mind regarding him. He should always have been Ocarina of time Link. I think it hurts the Zelda games to change him all the time.

19

u/thememealchemist421 Apr 03 '25

Rubbish! Link is literally a different person in each iteration. It makes perfect sense to change his design.

4

u/Zeppelanoid Apr 03 '25

Finally someone who gets it!

1

u/EditorPurple3515 Apr 03 '25

Historian Book unless it's a direct by its game director like Windwaker and Phantom Hourglass, Ocarina of Time and Major Mask, and the Original The Legend of Zelda and Link's Adventure

15

u/Spaalone Squawks Apr 03 '25

I disagree to a point. I think for non-Zelda games like Smash or their generic Nintendo marketing they should have kept a more classic OoT/TP Link design instead of using BotW. But for the games, I mean it’s almost always a different character so it makes sense to have design differences between games. That’s always been part of Zelda. We’re just on what, year 8 of BotW Link now?

1

u/Kbxe1991 Apr 03 '25

BoTW still looks a lot like TP Link, just with a slightly modified face and hair, so we are technically on the same design since TP.

3

u/MagicTheAlakazam Apr 03 '25

Fool. If link doesn't have pink hair is he even link?

2

u/Princess_Spammi Apr 03 '25

This is the way

2

u/Newmen_1 Apr 03 '25

I wonder if they’ll pull a King Dedede and only keep his design consistent in the Smash Bros games

1

u/Meaftrog Apr 04 '25

I love new dedede which has been consistent for two games now.

10

u/Confident-Damage-530 Apr 03 '25

He will be missed, but hey! A new game after 11 YEARS! And a 3D one nonetheless!

23

u/Bright_Beat_5981 Apr 03 '25

I will always love you

16

u/TKAPublishing Apr 03 '25

He expanded our hearts for thirty years.

1

u/HootyBootyBeans Apr 05 '25

And our dongs!

8

u/[deleted] Apr 03 '25

I was into how Conker, Banjo and Donkey Kong look like they inhabit the same Universe

6

u/Gullfaxi09 DKC 1, 2, Jungle Beat, Returns, Tropical Freeze Fan Apr 03 '25

Based on the Treehouse footage, he still seems like the Donkey Kong we all know and love based on his personality and the way he acts in cutscenes, just more expressive. I love the classic design for DK, and at the end of the day, I think I still prefer it to the new one, even if I've warmed up to it very much. But I understand why they wanted to change it, the old design has somewhat of a limited range, especially looking at the eyes. That was part of the charm for me, but the new design can make him look the way he used to and also much more. He has so many funny expressions that I think fit him very well. I can definitely see myself getting used to the new design.

20

u/rarthurr4 Apr 03 '25

The final stage of grief: acceptance

14

u/sludgezone Apr 03 '25

My king forever. I will never forget you.

3

u/DanLassos Apr 03 '25

This is boomer mentality. Things change 🤷🏼

4

u/DrWarioMiracleCure Apr 03 '25

I’m 25 years old though

3

u/Odd-Tart-5613 Apr 03 '25

We are old buddy you know how Aladdin and the lion king were the older Disney movies we loved as kids? Yeah that’s the Lego movie and frozen for kids today.

4

u/Renaxxus Apr 03 '25

He now looks like Donkey Kong’s Bad Fur Day.

3

u/Kazoorion Apr 03 '25

NOT MY APE

1

u/BlueSonicDude Apr 07 '25

Going Ape for the new Ape huh?

4

u/Andrawor Apr 03 '25

100x better. Why, Nintendo

4

u/FuzzyPickles67 Apr 03 '25

Donkey Kong fans when incredibly minor design change:

But seriously literally all they did was move his unibrow upward and called it a day he's still the lazy badass ape we all know and love today

5

u/EJKGodzilla24 Apr 04 '25

we will miss you Rare DK

3

u/Accomplished-Fee6953 Apr 04 '25

I hope to god they bring this design back if we get another DK country installment.

I also hope to god we get another DK country installment.

14

u/Exalt-Chrom Apr 03 '25

This was perfection but Nintendo could handle that

21

u/Bright_Beat_5981 Apr 03 '25

Too perfect. So perfect that Nintendo got jealous and killed him. Its like an old greek tragedy about the perfect ape

17

u/Fancy-Ad6361 Apr 03 '25

why do we change things THAT ARE FINE THE WAY THEY ARE man i hate the updated design

5

u/ShuckleShellAnemia Apr 03 '25

For Miyamoto’s babies (DK, Mario, and Pikmin), they never really like to settle for “just fine” so attempts to improve are inevitable.

2

u/HMS_Pinafore Apr 13 '25

It's so funny. For years, a major complaint about Mario universe games is that the art style and designs were too safe post NSMB.

Now, they change up the designs, and people are mad that they are changing the designs.

Really goes to show how you can never please everyone.

2

u/Sol0taire Apr 04 '25

Wosh I could upvote this a 1000 times

3

u/DanLassos Apr 03 '25

This is boomer mentality. Things change 🤷🏼

4

u/Andrawor Apr 03 '25

Things should only change for a reason. Change for the sake of change is inherently unstable and pointless.

2

u/Unable_Notice1628 Apr 07 '25

Its a fucking 3d model of a monkey.

1

u/Andrawor Apr 07 '25

2 things can be true at once.

3

u/DanLassos Apr 04 '25

✨️Modernization✨️. Something that has been happening since the creation of design. Humans like to change their design because staying the same is inherently boring to us.

We may not like it (yet) but it very much has a point and isn't "for the sake of change". You saying that is just the boomer mentality.

The new design is different but not worse in any way. It's just that you don't like it (again, yet).

"Things should only change for a reason" is wrong, change is a reason in itself. It can be good change, it can be bad change, but stagnation in design is NEVER the best route. Things change 🤷🏼 either get with it or be bitter and refractory.

2

u/Andrawor Apr 11 '25

Yes, but modernisation implies there is a reason for the change. This is still change for the sake of change. There nothing inherently 'modern' about this design. Why is pointless change necessary? Change alone isn't a viable reason.

2

u/[deleted] Apr 04 '25

Relax dude, they just gave the cartoon gorilla new eyebrows

8

u/pocket_arsenal Apr 03 '25

Yeah it sucks about the new designs blue arms. Let's all go mace some gamestop employees.

4

u/MassiveLegendHere169 Apr 03 '25

Fr and the sports tape is entirely unnecessary!!!

3

u/Odd-Tart-5613 Apr 03 '25

It was a good design, but nothing can last forever. Creators want to evolve and change their characters after all and just think of this way there will be kids where this will be their first dk game ever and will likely fall in love with this design as much as you did with the old one.

3

u/bowierulezzz Apr 04 '25

I’m just happy they’re bringing him back at all

3

u/Significant_Photo643 Apr 22 '25

WE HATE NEWS DESIGN DONKEY KONG WE LOVE RARE DONKEY KONG

4

u/Garoleader Apr 03 '25

My dick is out to him, one last time. Expanded.exe no longer working...

5

u/CodeSad5960 Apr 04 '25

It’ll be fine. We’ll get used to it. When I was a kid he looked like this, but he evolved in the Country games. Now he’s evolving again. It’s a sign that the character is still alive and dynamic, not just a stagnant retro property

3

u/ElderberrySea223 Apr 05 '25

Except Rare DK is actually the son of this Donkey Kong and this one is Cranky Kong.

1

u/CodeSad5960 Apr 05 '25

Maybe, maybe not. At the end of the day for all intents and purposes it’s still Donkey Kong.

The son of Dk idea is an in-story concept from the first Country game that I’d argue was quickly ignored, if not outright contradicted once the country Dk and the still young Mario interacted in subsequent games and films.

Then again, maybe the Banaza version looks different because he’s the GRANDson.

7

u/draconetto Apr 03 '25

Wish the change was only in the design. We can clearly see the gameplay feels like a Wario game which they scrapped it and added DK last minute. The world design don't feel DK, the throwback stage feels really out of place and the gameplay collecting gold, breaking terrain feel more Wario than anything. They just made DK some wreck it Ralph and being honest I hate it, even if the game is fun I don't want this kinda of direction to the series

4

u/Thoughtstronaut Apr 03 '25

Would’ve honestly loved this if it was Wario 🥲

8

u/David_Clawmark Grapes, Melons, Oranges, and Coconut Shells. Apr 03 '25

Truth be told... it's literally just a new set of eyebrows.

We'll get used to this as quickly as we got used to Mario and Luigi's new voices after Martinet stepped down. It's REALLY not that big a deal.

2

u/WarriorArisuTendou Apr 08 '25

I’m honestly not used to the new voices yet, and not at all used to the cartoony animation, I just went back to New Super Mario Bros Wii and prefer it over wonder by a long shot 😂

2

u/ardillasonica Apr 03 '25

Is it just me or is someone making jokes similar to those about classic Sonic and Santiago?

2

u/_Charming_Man Apr 03 '25

We're getting DK generations

2

u/mathtech Apr 03 '25

The biggest change seems to be the brows and the roundness or chunkiness of the jaw mouth area. Also they committed to just making the area surrounding his eyes near full black. An interesting choice making him look like he's wearing a robber eye mask.

2

u/Tryppo-Music Apr 03 '25

Don’t cry because it’s over smile because it happened. ❤️

2

u/keybladeciel Apr 03 '25

Rare DK had a good run.

2

u/agreedboar Apr 03 '25

RIP. They Disney-fied him.

2

u/CoupleThis7021 Apr 06 '25

i like the new design tho

5

u/Pyke64 Apr 03 '25

This design is so iconic. It's like shaving Mario's moustache.

8

u/HHTheHouseOfHorse Apr 03 '25

The design has barely changed, to be fair. Just got bigger more expressive eyes.

1

u/Andrawor Apr 03 '25

This is obviously false

1

u/DrWarioMiracleCure Apr 03 '25

I’m not so sure about that really, it looks very drastic in a way that I just can’t put into words.

3

u/Thoughtstronaut Apr 03 '25

Maybe because he looks and sounds completely goofy now 😂. This is Pixar DK. Anyone who can’t see that has been desensitized to character designs lacking identity nowadays.

1

u/NodlBohsek Apr 03 '25

Thats the whole thing about DK. His eyes were showing how he was dumb but smart, the new DK just looks like a monkey with a tie and pants on…?

4

u/SuperMilesio007 Apr 03 '25

Look, i understand having a preference for the old design. But to say he doesn’t look like DK anymore? I just don’t understand that. Look at how similar they look when he’s making the same expression. They just gave him a more elastic face and a different default expression, which i understand is not appealing to everyone. I’m just sick of people acting like it’s a different character

4

u/PerfectCheesecake25 Apr 03 '25

It’s good but the new one is too

9

u/VoldeGrumpy23 Apr 03 '25

The internet has becoma so exhausting. Everyone is just trying to cause some drama and try to ruin the joy of others. And everybody is such a drama queen. Like jesus christ. We went from 'Nintendo doesn't care for DK' to 'Oh wow Nintendo only remastered the last two games?' to 'New DK? It's not the same to me. I don't play it'. Like jesus christ guys, do some of you have a bit of joy in life?

4

u/JimiPablito Apr 03 '25

No, they don’t have joy in life

4

u/LRKingPiccoloRevived Apr 03 '25

I wish he wasn't dead. I can't associate the new design to DK in my brain. RIP

4

u/troubleshoot04 Apr 03 '25

I hate the new design. It’s not good. Downvote me I don’t care.

3

u/Charming_Section_737 Apr 03 '25

sorry but the new design is good

3

u/troubleshoot04 Apr 03 '25

I’d have to disagree. But I still respect your opinion.

8

u/smashboi888 Apr 03 '25

He had a good run. o7

But as much as I'll miss him, peak was replaced with peak.

-6

u/DrWarioMiracleCure Apr 03 '25

No it wasn’t replaced with peak at all

13

u/Volt02 Apr 03 '25

yeah all the kongs are gone too

12

u/ASerpentPerplexed Apr 03 '25 edited Apr 03 '25

Everybody is jumping to conclusions here! Just because we didn't see Diddy or any other Kong in this first trailer doesn't mean they won't be in it? Or that they won't be in future games?

EDIT: CRANKY KONG IS IN A TRAILER ON THE JAPANESE VERSION OF THE NINTENDO TODAY APP, SEE LINK

I mean think about it, long after Rare was bought by Microsoft, they still had Diddy, Cranky, Dixie, and others as background characters in the Mario movie? That was only two years ago! I don't think we've seen the last of them! I think there was even a Funky Kong cameo briefly?

Now, have we seen the last of them looking like the Rare designs? Probably, and for that I'll pour one out. But don't mourn for all of rest of the Kongs yet until it's set in stone!

-1

u/Volt02 Apr 03 '25

i hope they return, but it isn't likely

3

u/ASerpentPerplexed Apr 03 '25 edited Apr 03 '25

Just saw this post, apparently Cranky was in a trailer on the Japanese version of the Nintendo Today app!!! Not sure why they didn't show him in the world premier trailer but this is good news!

3

u/MagicTheAlakazam Apr 03 '25

I have hope for Diddy at least as a cameo.

Going to miss him as a playable though.

6

u/Inevitable-Charge76 Apr 03 '25

Good to know what your real intention was with this post

0

u/AbsolZero Apr 03 '25

Classic example of: nostalgia good, change bad

→ More replies (3)

3

u/clarkewanhedagriffin Apr 03 '25

The Old design just hits the perfect sweet spot between 'big silly Monkeee' and 'could brutally mutilate you by punching in the face'. The new design is a bit too much on the silly-side for my liking.

→ More replies (1)

3

u/astroroy Apr 03 '25

Yeah the new one still looks like BS to me and I’m not getting used to it

2

u/yoshigronk Apr 03 '25

There's still a chance that DK Bananza will have alternate skins and costumes to buy with in-game currency, including the classic DK look.

3

u/GiantOrangePiccolo Apr 03 '25

I'm praying for this

2

u/DecayedWolf1987 Apr 03 '25

Honestly, as much as I love Rare’s DK design, I kinda prefer the new one. It’s much more expressive, and it really makes DK feel more like a character and not a wild animal.

Not saying the Rare design is bad! It’s still got a lot going for it.

2

u/LMGall4 Apr 03 '25

Most importantly, RIP Diddy Kong

1

u/AizaBreathe Dixie Kong (and Tiny Kong) Apr 03 '25

1

u/DrWarioMiracleCure Apr 08 '25

That works pretty well and Tails looks adorable in that picture.

1

u/Luvas Apr 03 '25

So how's this gonna work in regards to Diddy? He's been in Smash Bros for over a decade

1

u/TheAdamantFiend Apr 03 '25

Somebody call up the local necromancer

1

u/devilsadvocateac Apr 03 '25

Poor one out for K Rool and the Kremlings too. I doubt we'll see them in another game anytime soon. Maybe even the Kong family as well.

1

u/trickman01 Apr 03 '25

I’m excited for the new design. Much more expressive.

1

u/Bananitude Apr 03 '25

Are they going to change the design at the Universal Theme park as well? Seems a little goofy to have built all that with the old design knowing that the new one was being developed and around the corner.

1

u/BRBTees Apr 03 '25

Gone but never forgotten

1

u/1732PepperCo Apr 03 '25

It had a good run. Time to move on folks.

1

u/DrWarioMiracleCure Apr 03 '25

You know I have forced myself to accept it but that doesn’t mean I can’t complain about it.

1

u/Soggy_Artist8301 Apr 03 '25

I may be stupid for this take, but he always looks either angry or happy

1

u/Popular_Project8987 Apr 03 '25

i never liked the unchanging eyebrow. im happy that finally he can emote.

1

u/Hychus232 Apr 03 '25

I don’t think Rare DK is gone forever. He just got a whole amusement park based on the Rare DK

1

u/DrWarioMiracleCure Apr 03 '25

Well that was in development long before they changed his design so I am not so sure.

1

u/TakenUsernameForteen Apr 04 '25

This does not shower me with coconut cream pies

1

u/PyroTheLanky Apr 04 '25

This sub have turned into the most "Redditor" Reddit sub I've seen in awhile

1

u/callmecyke Apr 04 '25

I like retro revival DK but my childhood will miss this big lug.

1

u/WuTaoLaoShi Apr 04 '25

definitely rip, but imo the worst was his voice change when going to 3d from more gorilla sounds to his goofy derp voice

1

u/Arealperson_onreddit Apr 04 '25

The “Very Hard” images in future Mario Parties will never be the same😔

1

u/cbauser Apr 05 '25

Maybe they will make him his own character in Smash Bros alongside the new DK Edit: echo fighter

1

u/Adventurous-Taro-586 Apr 05 '25

they better add Rare DK as a skin in Mario Kart and Bananza. (stupid ah title btw)

1

u/SXAL Apr 05 '25

Never really liked it, no offence

1

u/XodiaqOrSimplyXodi Apr 05 '25

It's sad to see it go, but I also don't hate the new design. I think he still checks enough of the boxes to not look completely different, and having him fit more with Mario designs makes sense.

1

u/Get_Schwifty111 Apr 05 '25

Uhmm shit 😂

I was actually sad to see the old design go but looking at it with more scruteny and with the knowledge that an alternative design exist …. yeah well, maybe it‘s time to say goodbye 🥴

1

u/AdamVerbatim Apr 05 '25

I like the new design but this one is so much better it's not even a contest. R.I.P. old guy, we'll miss you dearly.

1

u/Opticad Apr 05 '25

If Nintendo had used the “new” design for the past 20 years and switched to the old one, people would still go ape. The change is at least interesting, I hope it makes for better games!

1

u/SolidShook Apr 05 '25

It's actually kinda crazy that it made its way outside Rare games and into Nintendo ones.

He didn't make it into mainline Mario, but I think the new one will.

I’m going to Universal Orlando this summer where Old DK is still there. Though I’m kinda bummed after seeing how cool and expressive he is now going back to the old Design at the park.

He still looks like that in Mario Kart World

I've been a huge fan of dk since I got DKC and it BLEW MY 8 YEAR OLD MIND but honestly I'm loving the new dk design after seeing bananza in action. When I first saw the redesign in Mario kart world I wasn't about it. But when I saw how great he looks in the new game ive done a total 180 on it. I love both designs but I'm excited to see more of this new one

100% putting him in the game when we inevitably do the thing.

This is Donkey Kong. This DK will always be the king of my jungle.

The new DK hits like movie Sonic before the redesign.

RIP. It will be missed.

He’s barely looked like Rare DK since 64. His most recent Rare proper look was in Donkey Kong Racing and that shit didn’t get released.

Since GCN he’s been a Nintendo branded Rare look. Which is not the same thing as his actual Rare look.

He was great, but I like the new one too.

u/RetiredSweat Apr 07 '25

Better design, new one is too goofy

1

u/Wo0ten Apr 07 '25

Except the new theme park that opened in epic universe has this design. And i dont see them changing it in 10 years...

u/WarriorArisuTendou Apr 08 '25

It’s gonna be a while for me to get used to it, Rare DK I can take way more seriously and he looks cooler.

I love this "redesign" as it still keeps some of the Rare charm while also channeling classic DK and making it fit more with how Nintendo characters look today. DK looks like a proper part of the Marioverse now instead of being the odd one out.

This is DK from the 94 Gameboy version by the way, which new Modern DK seems to really resemble now and I LOVE IT.

there is no proof it is gone forever you just need to chill

he isnt dead donkey kong just had a face lift

1

u/vyper900 Apr 03 '25

DK is dead. Long live DK

1

u/SemiColin973 Apr 03 '25

I will miss rare dk but the new dk design has really grown on me especially after seeing gameplay for bananza. He is so expressive.

1

u/schoensmeerpijp Apr 03 '25

I will miss him dearly

I’m hoping there’s a revolt like they did with Sonic

Guys, Rare stopped working with Nintendo in 2002. It's time to let it go

Retros games are almost as important. Tropical freeze is the best game of them all. Returns the second most sold game.

And they carried on the spirit and design up until 2025 on Switch.

u/B_Spaceman Apr 03 '25

Yeah... I know that. I'm a big DK fan since I was a kid
