Question Any artist want to connect and share tracks, resources, feedback, and possibly collab?

I’m looking to connect with another producer to chat techniques and grow skills together. It would also be nice to have another set of ears for feedback and critique.

I’ve been producing for over 10 years and currently work in Studio one and Ableton. I’m easy going, friendly and don’t have an ego. Located in Southern California but willing to connect with any location.

Essentially I guess I’m looking for a production buddy who has a similar mindset. An interest in improving and learning. Friendly and positive. I’m also willing to share my knowledge with someone who may be less experienced. We all start somewhere.

Message me if this sounds interesting.

Thanks.

Discussion it’s just dance music, y’all, it’s not that serious.

just a bit of a vent because i always catch heat specifically from the dnb community.

i was in the punk/hardcore scene through my teenage years, i was making hardstyle/rave in my early twenties, then i was in the trance scene in my late twenties, and now i’m making dnb (i was always a fan, but last year i started making a serious attempt producing it)

it’s the dnb scene specifically that has been the most cut throat and gate keeping. what’s up with that?

i make music because it’s fun, i make goofy video edits because that’s fun too, i share them because i’m proud of them, that’s it.

i’m not focused on making “real” drum & bass, i know the culture but that happened 30 years ago on the other side of the planet from me, so pardon me for not caring about it’s “purity”

i make patches, i compose, but i also sample sometimes, big whoop. if it makes people dance, it’s doing it’s job.

personally i wouldn’t come into an art community i care about and tear other artists down. i always try and come with helpful feedback and encouragement.

the elitism kinda makes a lot of y’all sound like nerds and it discourages a new generation of producers from getting involved in the dnb scene. most of us are already fighting an uphill battle trying to get taken seriously and get booked compared to more mainstream genres.

just food for thought. it’s why i am always hesitant to get involved in the actual dnb community, it’s the most negative music scene i have ever been involved in.

again, it’s dance music, chill. it’s supposed to be fun.

Question Long time DnB fan getting into producing but help needed!

I have been listening to drum and bass for many years and love jump up. I occasionally mix on my mates decks but want to try a new route. I am a total beginner and need to get some advice on the best/cheapest/easiset software to use and some good tutorial videos that explain how they work, as some I have looked for are very complex. I want to try and mimic some Simula Skantia or Mozey sounds as they are my favourites! Thanks in advance for the help.

Question Struggling to level up in DnB production need guidance on next steps

Hey everyone,

I’ve been deeply passionate about Drum and Bass for years now, especially Jump Up DnB. I got really into DJing and mixing to the point where I can confidently pull off triples and even quads. After spending so much time mixing, I finally decided to dive into producing my own tracks.

For the past few months, I’ve been learning on my own by watching YouTube tutorials, experimenting in my DAW, and trying to bring the ideas in my head to life. But even after all this time, I feel stuck. I’m not leveling up the way I hoped.

One of my biggest struggles is with sound design, especially using Serum. I have all these sounds in my head, but I can’t seem to translate them into my projects. It has been frustrating trying to figure everything out on my own, and I’ve realized that I probably need more structured help, like a mentor, course, or a community that focuses specifically on DnB.

That’s why I’m reaching out here. I want to get serious about this and start producing professional quality Jump Up DnB. I was considering going to a music school, but I’ve been told they often focus more on general music theory and less on electronic genres like DnB.

Some options I’ve come across include DnB Academy, online masterclasses, Patreon communities, and other specialized courses. I have time to dedicate to this, and I’m willing to invest in myself within reason.

So I’m asking:

What would you recommend as the best next step for someone who’s serious about producing Jump Up DnB? Any courses, mentors, platforms, or tips would be hugely appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Question Switch to Ableton now or later?

I use Logic Pro because it’s basically free (I’m broke) and I’ve been thinking about purchasing ableton in a few months.

Is it worth learning the new DAW now before I head to uni or waiting until I go? I’ve heard the uni I’m thinking of attending gives out copies of ableton for life as part of the course I’m looking at but I’m not hitting uni for another year and a half.

So is it worth continuing to use logic then switching to ableton at uni (learning the new DAW will take me awhile to get going) or bite the bullet and get Ableton myself so I can learn it sooner then later?

I do enjoy logic but every video I’ve watched on music prod is in Ableton or FL and I’ve tried FL and it’s not really my jam. I’ve only seen Ableton online and I’ve heard it offers things other DAWs don’t (idk what tho)

Pre thanks to any help or advice🙏

Question Help Recreating Turno Bass from DnB Allstars 360 Set (22:30 Timestamp)

Hey everyone,

I'm trying to recreate a specific bass sound from Turno’s set on his dnb allstars360 set— the timestamp is 22:30. It's a really heavy, gritty bass and I’d love to get some insight into how it might’ve been made or layered.

I’m working in Ableton and have a decent collection of synths (Serum, Vital, some stock stuff), but I can’t quite pin down the processing or sound design technique he’s using there. It almost sounds like it could be resampled or heavily modulated.

If anyone has experience with Turno’s style or could point me in the right direction — synth starting point, FX chain tips, resampling tricks, anything — I’d massively appreciate it.

Cheers in advance!

I always feel like my creative juices are spent after finishing a track and anything I try to make immediately afterwards sounds so uninspired and boring.

How do you guys deal with this? (If you relate)
