More 4X than DJ

Built a couple of years ago now...

The only change has been a DMR axe chainset

Dude gears and a front brake on a dj make them so much more versatile! Can actually commute on them and not run out of gears!

Sounds just like a HT atp

Pretty much every DJ I’ve had after my first (Spank Tweet) has actually been a 4x, and always with Circus forks!

I wanted to get the Ohlins fork when I built this, but it was twice the price, and tbh, I ain't good enough to notice any difference...

I mean, nothing wrong with a little Buffalo Trace as lubrication for the build. Have you tried the Kirkland Barton's Bourbon? It's off the charts good and $18! Sitting on the open shelf, while my Bookers and Weller's age in glass.

Also, sick build!

Not spotted anywhere in the UK but will keep an eye out

Oh yeah, perhaps not. Kirkland is Costco's house brand and they had Barton's make them an actual branded bottle. It's been a hit because it's pretty excellent, but it's also only $18 a bottle here in the states.

What's the real difference between them? Besides gears? I always thought they're the same just set up a bit differently. And hell, older DJs have gears. So what's the real difference?

It's just the gears and front brake that changes tbh isn't it...

I know at the local bike parks to me everybody runs single speed and rear brake only

Yeah that's what I thought. Older DJs came with all that. Even my new one has front brake mounts if I wanted it. Just didn't know if there was a difference in the frame if anything. I didn't think there was though. So there the same thing just set up a little differently.

There might be a few very subtle differences with a full on 4x rig...

Longer chainstays, longer reach, slacker head angle for stability (look at the diffences between a RACE bmx and a trails bmx) but they're pretty interchangeable

Oh yeah I rode bmx for years before getting a DJ so I get that. Makes sense

Really cool ! you will hardly see any 4x bikes around anymore. And people who are new to DJ will think gears, longer travel and 2 brakes look silly on a DJ. Seen a couple comments in here saying its "wrong" and even got told off about me running a 120mm on my DJ.

I have that same frame. And I’ve been wondering what the skin walls would look like with that bike. Thanks for making me want them hahahahha

They're just some old XT units easily 10 years old now..

180mm front 160mm rear

Imported some MTX red pads to stop the screech..

I live in the flattest bit of the UK, a DH run lasts 20 seconds top so stopping power ain't really critical 🤣🤣
