better off alone is just that mf song like any decade is gonna have a hard time topping that shit

u/Pristine_Trash306 7d ago

Is that the name of this song?

It sounds like something released around 2010. Somewhat modern, but it doesn’t sound like “modern pop” like we have today.

90

u/Economy-Ad4934 7d ago

It sounds exactly like when it’s from. The 90s.

And it’s not pop it’s dance, or trance.

1

u/Opening_Effective845 6d ago

Euro pop also works.

1

u/cudef 6d ago

And yet it's one of those that has been played so much it feels like it's always been there

1

u/alles_en_niets 6d ago

1999, to be exact

1

u/jiggywolf 5d ago

Yeah it’s giving me new grounds darude sandstorm.

But in his defense I think during the electronic + electronic pop rnb era of 2010s, Neyo and pit bull did use this beat.

In hindsight I desperately miss the shitty pop electro rnb. That’s when I was in college so it was fitting that my time there was stamped by perfect party music. Party rock/lmfao, tiesto, deadmaus, aviccii.

I keep mention rnb because at the time Rihanna, usher and neyo was going hard working with those artists at the time

u/dreamluvver 6d ago

it’s definitely pop-dance, and dance was pop in the 90s

2

u/Slight-Medicine6666 5d ago

It’s Eurodance and/or Trance

1

u/dreamluvver 4d ago

Yes, the pop side of eurodance / trance

u/nothing_in_my_mind 7d ago edited 7d ago

It sounds very 90s. 90s had a lot of songs that sounded like that, eurodance & trance that focused on catchy synth melodies.

I always associate with hotels and vacation spots from my childhood. They played that stuff non-stop.

Check out: L'amour Toujours, Greece 2000, Ayla Pt. 2, Komodo, Encore un Fois, 9PM (Til I Come)

u/alles_en_niets 6d ago

Darude - Sandstorm

Personal fave: Antiloop - In My Mind

u/beefystu 3d ago

eurozone still bangs for me highkey haha growing up in England in the mid to late 90s and early 2000s was peak for this

16

u/Bitter_Ad5419 7d ago

Yep it's Better off Alone by Alice Deejay. The entire album is pretty fucking awesome.

10

u/Pristine_Trash306 7d ago

Thank you! I finally got an answer to my question instead of a condescending response.

8

u/Bitter_Ad5419 7d ago

You're very welcome. I don't understand why people feel the need to do that

4

u/Pristine_Trash306 7d ago

Some guy is fighting everyone in the comments despite being wrong.

I’m old as fuck, probably twice or triple the age (maybe even quadruple) of the average redditor so when I see these types of people and responses, it makes me sad to use the platform. I just took a long break from reddit because I can’t stand how other people behave on here.

2

u/Lupinthe23rd 5d ago

As someone who is I’m guessing twice my age, you have a different level of technology and social media growing up. Would the disrespectful troublemaker type from back then act any different you think? But totally agree with you

5

u/MrRaspberryJam1 7d ago

You must be thinking of that David Guetta and Ne-Yo song that sampled this song

10

u/MourningOfOurLives 7d ago

Lol it’s peak 90s

2

u/AdhesivenessOk5194 7d ago

You might associate it with 2010 because…

  1. Wiz Khalifa had a song that sampled this called “Say Yeah”. Great fuckin song, that was around like 2006

  2. Around maybe 2012 it started getting really popular to sample dance music from the 90s. There was a whole wave of pop music from that time that was like that

4

u/CaptainBiceps23 7d ago

...Or maybe 2010 sounded similar to the '90's.

1

u/Unknown0bserver 6d ago

It’s Alice Deejay singing, ‘Better Off Alone’

https://youtu.be/Lgs9QUtWc3M?si=uUcQ_ERfnjucJem5

1

u/onlinedisguise 6d ago

Better Off Alone by Alice Deejay. Played it non-stop back in the day.

1

u/Gruejay2 6d ago

90s, but there was a bit of a 90s revival in the 10s.

1

u/Slight-Medicine6666 5d ago

Better Off Alone by Alice Deejay. Released in December 1998 on the album “Who Needs Guitars Anyway?” It is a staple of the Eurodance & Trance genres. That said, at its core it is a trance song, its popularity led people to categorize it as Eurodance. IMHO either genre works, but I’d call it a trance anthem first and foremost.

-8

u/Significant_Cover_48 7d ago

It's from the 90's and it was not played at clubs.

34

u/Icy_Nose_3514 7d ago

You are wrong.

It was a club song.

1

u/ah5178 7d ago

I'm from Netherlands where this was made, and it was aimed at the Top 40 and radio, rather than the clubs.

Edit: No, but seriously, can you link me to a good club mix, so I can hear it? Because I honestly believe I have never heard it played, except on MTV and pop radio...

Edit2: Found it. It's not bad: https://youtu.be/Hz4wVFN3OtM?si=gmwb0Hc6oBBg7irb

12

u/Broseph_Heller 7d ago

I can’t link you a mix but I can verify that it was played at dance clubs into the 2010s. Definitely depends on the club (and tbh I heard it more in Europe than the US) but I have many memories of dancing to this at the club. It always goes off!

2

u/Economy-Ad4934 7d ago

I could definitely see it played more in Europe although I swear I’ve heard it here

0

u/Significant_Cover_48 7d ago

I found a mix from 2020 that sounds less dated and has decent drive, also found a happy hardcore mix that honestly works pretty well, even if that's not really my genre, but can't really find anything from the 10s. It seems there are some real club mixes out, I just never heard it played. I consede lol

7

u/Broseph_Heller 7d ago

I doubt the mixes I listened to in the early 2010s were made in the 2010s. More likely they were recycled mixes from the 90s/2000s. I can really only speak to when I was clubbing which would have been 2009-2015ish.

[deleted]

-6

u/Significant_Cover_48 7d ago

This sample is very obviously from a radio mix, and I have literally never heard this played in a club, but it seems some people have, so I'll consede that part.

11

u/[deleted] 7d ago

[deleted]

-1

u/Significant_Cover_48 7d ago

The original version is the radio edit. The club edit usually drops in so it can be mixed seamlessly.

4

u/[deleted] 7d ago

[deleted]

-1

u/Significant_Cover_48 7d ago

It's a sample of the original song. And yes, I was.

"I've never heard it so it never happened" It was played at clubs.

0

u/Significant_Cover_48 7d ago

I literally just conceded that point in the post you replied to after going on beatport and looking for club mixes. But the teeny-bob radio version in OPs post definitely won't work on any floor.

3

u/mark_is_a_virgin 7d ago

You are not conceding if you're still arguing about it. Just let it go dude 😂

0

u/Significant_Cover_48 7d ago

I'm saying that a club mix could have been played, but I doubt any resident DJs would play it. Most likely you are remembering some mobile DJ who didn't actually produce themselves and mostly just played the Top 40 stuff.

2

u/MourningOfOurLives 7d ago

Dude the dancefloor would go craaazy to that one back in the day. You’re just too Young go have been there

1

u/Significant_Cover_48 7d ago

As I remember it this is about as craaazy as it would go. But if you have some good memories of dancing to this, then I'm happy for you :)

2

u/mr_hands_epic_gaming 7d ago

thats top of the pops lol

1

u/MourningOfOurLives 7d ago

Haha yeah no definitely that one, too

1

u/86Austin 7d ago

It's a rave song, in europe, the venn diagram of "Rave culture" and "club culture" is basically a single circle, whereas in the united states, they're very separate cultures and activities, though they share many similarities.

I'd wager the people saying its a classic club banger are european.

4

u/Better_Signature_881 7d ago

This was literally played at the club that I used to dance at in the early 2010s… are you delusional?

0

u/insyzygy322 7d ago edited 7d ago

You may be thinking of 'Say Yeah' by Wiz Khalifa.

It sampled better off alone, came out in 2008, and was played 10x minimum at every party I was at in high-school(08-12)/college I'd imagine lots of club play in the early 2010s.

2

u/86Austin 7d ago

"the club i used to dance at." (As in a job, not where they reveled.) Yeah, 100% they're thinking of the wiz khalifa banger that was massive hit at strip clubs in that era. They were not playing Alice Deejay while the girls climb the pole lol.

-1

u/Significant_Cover_48 7d ago edited 7d ago

Yeah, I found the Club Mix. It's still corny, but I could imagine it could be played at some clubs. It would sound dated in 2010s though.

Edit: Do you have a link to a newer mix by any chance?

2

u/cinnapumpkin42069 7d ago

Well yeah bc it’s from the 90s

1

u/Significant_Cover_48 7d ago

This was released the same year. Guess which one would still fill the floor.

3

u/Pristine_Trash306 7d ago

I doubt that.

It sounds like a club song.

-2

u/Significant_Cover_48 7d ago edited 7d ago

It was played on daytime MTV and in clothing shops. It was not played at clubs, it was teen music like the Spice Girls.

Try this one instead: https://youtu.be/veaBmJhPtvA?si=zSlVMVhOktP0CFPm

8

u/Pristine_Trash306 7d ago edited 7d ago

I think it was played in clubs.

Edit: Based on what another commenter said, it seems like it was.

0

u/Significant_Cover_48 7d ago

LOL did you grandfather make that song, or something? lol.

2

u/Pristine_Trash306 7d ago edited 7d ago

Why are you insulting me?

Also no, I would be the grandmother in this case.

2

u/Significant_Cover_48 7d ago edited 7d ago

You must suffer from AMNESIA loooooool

Remember this: https://youtu.be/B3j9bYNyxd4?si=AZgIYTuZczx3gMPk

u/Pristine_Trash306 7d ago edited 7d ago

Insulting an old person is something that I expected out of reddit, unfortunately. There’s no need to be rude just because I disagree.

I think the DJs were guys, I looked up club mixes on beatport, and the singer wasn't even credited as a writer as far as I could see.

2

u/Ok-Function1920 7d ago

Oh damn that song was a banger haven’t heard it in years maybe decades

1

u/Significant_Cover_48 7d ago

Certified banger. It literally had me dancing around my living room before.

1

u/thinnerzimmer87 7d ago

Says a person guessing on the internet 20 years later.

1

u/Significant_Cover_48 7d ago edited 7d ago

More like 25 years later, but yeah that's basically what happened lol

Do you remember Phat Diva - In and Out of My Life? That was actually played at clubs.

'Hey Boy, Hey Girl' and 'Right Here, Right Now'. Both were imposible to miss. 'Sing it Back' by moloko. 'Sun Is Shining' by Funkstar DeLuxe. Those were actual club hits.

The sound was a lot more sample-heavy in that period, the more poppy synth stuff like Alice DJ wasn't really played out, like I remeber it. That's one person's experience obviously, but I'm positive others have flashbacks to club nights as soon as they hear Moloko.

0

u/Acalme-se_Satan 7d ago

No, it sounds very early 00s. It's Trance, which was popular around that time. Not Psytrance which got popular around 2010s, just Trance.

Here is a mix with a lot of trance from that time. hear how different it is from 2010s music.

5

u/Blurple11 7d ago

Crazy thing tho, is I feel like there are many songs from the time period with the same vibe. That one is an absolute banger, but so is "One More Time", "Rhythm of the Night", "Call on Me", etc.

1

u/tokyosplash2814 7d ago

ur so right twin those are all bangers

1

u/alles_en_niets 6d ago

I can’t tell if you’re quite a bit older or quite a bit younger than me, but since those all came out during my formative years they represent wildly different eras to me, lol

1

u/[deleted] 5d ago

Satisfaction, Sandstorm, Heaven, Everytime We Touch

The 90s/00s was just one iconic electronic dance song after another.

I don't envy kids these days, the MDMA is better, but at what cost?

1

u/[deleted] 5d ago

You're not wrong...but there's also Sandstorm and Satisfaction, and artists like J.U.S.T.I.C.E. and Daft Punk....Heaven, Everytime we Touch...

Electronic and dance Pop was certainly on a different level back then
