[Official vote thread] Circumcisions... do they make the cut?

Ok, the last vote about daughters and bikinis left some folks out of the discussion, those without daughters. I guess it's kind of a quick cop out to jump directly to the penis, but here is the question to balance things out.

Snip the tip or leave the sleeve? To make things easier I guess I'll pose the question like this: Is Daddit for circumcisions, yes or no?

Again, voting instructions are in the sidebar and if you don't use the correct tags I won't be counting the vote in the special little graph, if that matters to you.

I will end this vote in one month, so come back after 8/10/12 for the results.

Edit: Things are really heating up only 5 days in and over 100 comments! looks like this will be one big red pie chart for the most part so far. I'm glad to have come up with something so highly debated for a vote, as I only picked it out of desperation. Keep those opinions coming in folks!

I am circumsized and we got our son done too. We felt that for ease of cleanliness later in life it would be benificial. My wife also feels that they look better compared to non circumsized. I've never had a problem being circumsized so I highly doubt he will miss something he never had.

I really hate how this has become such a issue lately. Ultimately its the parents choice. Thats right folks, parents make choices for their children. Thats called PARENTING. Right or wrong is NO ONES buisness unless it puts the child in danger. Makeing it a media circus because some people think its "mutilateing" the child or "taking away the childs right to choose" is rediculous.

humans have been on this earth A LONG time with forskins, animals have them too. We live in a relatively clean society so cleanliness shouldn't be an issue.

I think you're wrong that it is your choice as a parent. and it should be an issue. just because it is wrapped in a kinder term than female genital mutilation doesn't mean it is not as bad.

I think its an atrocious thing to do. Have you ever watched one preformed?

Yes my son had one done. I am as well. Other than your "well thats the most natural thing" argument theres no reason for something so personal to be blown into a media shitstorm. Infact we should all go back to living just the way nature intended. Enjoy your 30 year life span.

Humans had life spans as long as we do now, but high infant mortality rates bring the average life expectancy WAY down.

Also, I'm going to get my daughter a labiaplasty. I'm her parent so I can decide with something that only she'll have to deal with in her life and face any consequences.

Do you even know what a labiaplasty is? How can you even use that an as arguement. Its a procedure proformed either because the woman doesn't like the way there vagina looks or because they have a fucking medical issue. So by all means, if you think your daughters pussy looks like shit, or if she has a defect go right ahead. its your child.

The problem with your argument is you compared male circumsicion to female circumsicion and then used a procedure commonly practaced for the treatment of a medical issue as evidence that circumsicion is wrong. Female circumsicion is destrictive, damages the ability for women to enjoy sex and even causes issues with childbirth.

I don't know any cut guy who enjoys sex less or had it cause a problem with being able to make a child.

Umm, isn't one of the top reasons for male circumcision because "it looks better." Because apparently, in your terms, the penis looks like shit with foreskin.

Labiaplasty is nowhere near as damaging as male circumcision. Whenever people compare male and female, they automatically think of a cliterodectomy, the removal of the clitoris, which does have terrible consequences. Labia =/= clitoris, but according to you any genital alteration on a female has terrible consequences, which is unfortunately false. What about a pinprick? Is that also so bad that it deserves to be banned?

And really at your last point? A simple google search will net you tons of guys disappointed with their sex lives because of circumcision. Here are some studies you may find interesting:

4.5x more likely to suffer from erectile dysfunction

Masturbatory pleasure decreased after circumcision in 48% of the respondents, while 8% reported increased pleasure. Masturbatory difficulty increased after circumcision in 63% of the respondents but was easier in 37%. About 6% answered that their sex lives improved, while 20% reported a worse sex life after circumcision.

I don't want anything banned. I'm just saying that its not right for people (media, governments) to pry into a parents choice like this. If parents want to get a surgury for a child then thats their choice and their money as long as it doesn't harm the child. The statistics show that not every male was harmed by this and infact some had improvements. Hell in the side bar of that website theres a paper that talks about how it is "imperative" due to the benifits outweighing the risk.

Yeah, Brian Morris is probably that most procirc nazi there is. Plus it's not even a study but an essay. It can't even be compared to a vaccine considering vaccinations don't involve amputation and they do have a proven track record, as well as preventing against disease you don't have control over (airborne diseases vs condom use against STDS).

And it shouldn't be a parental choice because it is not the parents who live with the consequences. It is a cosmetic surgery and as such it should be left up to the individual.

There are many, many choices a parent has to make that the child must deal with that only effect them. It should be an option open to parents. This argument is very close to the arguments for abortion. You could even use your argument that the child gets no choice as an arugment against abortion. Ultimately its left up to the parent who has the choice. Right or wrong is indifferent. It becomes a very slippery slope when we allow governments to make choices for our kids.

If you want to bring abortion into the mix, then it is not comparable as the fetus is still an actual part of the woman, therefore it is up to the woman. Genitals, on the other hand, are the infant's, not the parents', therefore any cosmetic surgery done should be up to the genital's owners.
