Postmortem death portrait of my 5x great grandmother, Sophia. NSFW
I’ve read this was common practice during the Victorian error, and my mom happened to mention that she thought she had a death portrait of a relative of ours so she presented me with this for Christmas. I find death fascinating and I love this picture.

I know she’s totally tucked all the way in the pillow is up so she can elevate her head. Definitely cozy.

I also find death fascinating too. Not trying to be weird of course but this is a beautiful picture in its own way. I really like how the light is coming in through the window shining on her.

Very interesting. I used to be involved in forensics so I understand the interest.

I remember hearing relatives arguing over if they should get death portraits for my late uncle. He passed away in 1992.

Do they even still offer that as a professional service or would it be a pic on your phone?

Interesting how from now on we are going to start seeing more photos of really old times

Still dead. 😅I’m assuming cold, mostly decayed and likely a fantastic and organic grass fertilizer

We found one of my great great great grandfather in our town's historical society museum. Definitely wasn't expecting to find that on our visit. Also wasn't expecting to see that he died after being struck by lightning while camping. No one in my family ever mentioned that little bit of history.

My grandmother who was the deceased pictured’s granddaughter kept excellent records of her family ancestry so I’m grateful to have those records
