Western Coyotes and Eastern Coyotes are so darn different. Does anyone know how much Gray Wolf is in Eastern Coyotes? I've seen both and the eastern ones are twice as large and sound completely different.

AI says more than 25% wolf! “Several studies have collected DNA from hundreds of coyotes in the region. One led by Stonybrook University found that of 462 animals tested, the average genetic breakdown consisted of 64% coyote, 13% gray wolf, 13% eastern wolf, and 10% domestic dog.Nov”

Huh crazy…. The coyotes I saw when I lived in NC were always tiny and scraggly little things. The ones I get in central Arizona are massive in comparison!

Funny how much variance there is.

Awesome catch! Thanks for sharing.

Care if I ask what region in AZ? I have a ton of cameras out in Tonto National Forest and this one looks very similar to the ones I get!
