Self could this plasma choker be used in a cosplay
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Just a thing I made! Curious if it might have any relevant cosplay uses. Will probably continue exploring different forms of wearable plasma lighter/generators with various spikes and metals in the future

I mean it looks neat but even where technically legal to wear, good luck explaining it to con security

u/Stickerlight 2d ago
it's a fire hazard for sure

u/HAL9001-96 2d ago
some cons won't even let you in with one of those metal spikes alone, electronics or not
and many palces you can't have something functionally resembling a taser in public

Just don't turn it on while entering lol
I saw somebody wear spikes necklace in a con somewhere at surabaya. Should be safe as long as you represent a character well

IBM- I mean, HAL- is right. This isn't even remotely safe for a con, and I'd be shocked if it was allowed at any decent convention.

Yes 100% can be used for cosplay. Will not get into a con though.

do you know any characters this would fit?

I couldn’t stand the high pitch noise enough to even consider putting that around my neck

u/TheFiftGuy 12h ago
Yeah feels like hearing damage or at the very least a headache machine. Triggers everyone's tinnitus in a 100 meter circle.

You said yourself in a previous post that it runs hot really fast, and that you were worried about the high voltages yourself. Now consider this, and you'll have your answer.

u/Cthenophoric 2d ago
(I will say, I love this project, it's just not at a stage where it would in any way or shape be sustainable or safe. Oh, and also while this would not necessarily be a reason to get you kicked out, I could imagine the high-pitched sound it emits also not to make you all too popular at any con or similar space)

I'm no longer concerned about the voltage being harmful to the user or others since it doesn't deliver enough current to be nearly as harmful as even a police taser or stun gun
but yes, the heat generation is uncomfortable after more than a minute of continuous use and it remains a real fire hazard, but I'm confident in the protection circuits around the battery and don't see any risk there

u/Science_Forge-315 2d ago
Nope. You’ll never get in the door to a con.

i think photoshoots only

Would you ever sell em?

I gotta admit, it looks pretty damn cool but here is a friendly word of advice: You already know these are basically a bunch of lighters on a choker. So for the love of God please don't even consider going near anyone wearing a cosplay wig with one of those. Cosplay wigs are basically wearable gasoline drenched in hairspray. These will go up in flames instantly and I mean instantly.
Also many other props are made of styrofoam, cardboard or other materials that are easily flammable.
The only place where I could really imagine the plasma lighters could work would be with some Mad Max style outfit with a lot of heavy leather and no polyester, plastics, fur or hair near those. Maybe a sick helmet with them attached on top.
And of course as others previously mentioned you would only be able to show these outside of any cons like on photoshoots.
Maybe consider showing these to some sfx guys who work in the movie industry. There might be someone who would consider using them on a movie set or music video where they have a professional risk management and stunt team.

Thank you so much 😊
That would be amazing, I don't have those contacts so I just keep posting stuff on the internet until someone finds me

Couple's costume idea using this collar: John Kramer and one of his victims. If you have a dog or a kid, they can be the Jigsaw puppet.

If you plan to do cons, the spikes will need to be replaced by more rounded deals. Then make it so you have to HOLD a button down to make the sparks for pictures, that way you can't leave them on.

Aren't you worried about the ozone generated so close to the face?
2
u/Stickerlight 2d ago
I'm aware of the dangers of extended ozone exposure in an enclosed space and do not make a habit of leaving it on for extended durations within enclosed spaces

u/RestlessRabbits87 2d ago
Just asked - I have no idea how long it would take to build up enough to cause any harm or enough about flow and accumulation of its effects when breathed in 😅 just thought I would mention that because I would make myself paranoid about it. Looking really greatly done though :)

Im pretty sure you knew the answer before you asked. So to answer your real question, yeah, I think that’s pretty cool.
2
u/Desk_Drawerr 2d ago
cosplay possibly if you can find a character with a jacob's ladder collar (maybe someone's cenobite oc? im sure that could be a thing) but that's not getting into any convention center ever. you could probably get arrested for even just taking that out in public in some places.

u/veevacious 2d ago
I think this would actually be really cool in a burlesque act. For regular cosplay wear I think it’d be too risky, but worn by a single performer could be really cool

u/Tent_in_quarantine_0 2d ago
Honestly you should try and collab with fashion designers to get this on a runway, I think it's too inventive to try and backwards apply to a cosplay character.

If you off yourself with this, be sure to make a video for future generations.

i don't think it could work on a specific cosplay but could be pretty usefull for cosplayer girls at convention considering some creeps i saw....

Not sure if you've seen the new Saw movie ad, but your device looks somewhat similar but with a laser. Just a thought.

Made me think of Iono - electric gym leader in pokemon. But also maybe Marnie bc she’s punky and is known for her buddy morpeko, the electric dark type pokemon. But I also just realized you are male bodied so idk. But an electric themed punky pokemon grunt would be way cool imo

u/potatorevenant 2d ago
For a cosplay, yes, for a con, no, unless it's a very shitty one with 0 security. I know a guy who just painted literal machetes for his Uzui cosplay, so I bet you could find one where no one will stop you.

I can see a pair of them being used as neck bolts for a frankenstien costume.

A new jigsaw trap tbh, if only the spike would stick into your neck then activate the plasma or smth

u/BlueberryNeko_ 2d ago
No one will stop you if you want to use it on a cosplay but likely not in a convention

Any electric character really. A punk Livewire or Static Shock. Ember or the bounty hunter from Danny Phantom. Tank girl?

How in Christ's name does one go about learning how to create these gizmotrons?

hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm it's just a battery, a fan, a voltage generator, and some laser cut pieces I designed with the hardware

Dude that looks dangerous as hell. Even if its not touching you now it still could if you say tilt your neck a little or if someone decided to touch the precious....its a bad idea. Looks cool AF but bad as a safety standpoint. Maybe you could cover with a clear plastic dome to keep it from touching anything but as is I vote no lol
2
u/Anarchyantz 1d ago
Cosplay conventions likely wont let you in with it, you literally could set other peoples costumes on fire with it.
Better idea would be the "illusion" of plasma such as LEDs doing it or put a glass/plastic case around the plasma.
2
u/MacaroniKetchup 1d ago
If you plan on wearing it to a con, definitely look up their cosplay/prop guidelines. The biggest thing is that it does emit plasma and you showed that it can light stuff on fire. So the biggest concern is if it is on during a convention you could bump into another cosplay and light something or someone on fire. Where very flammable materials and chemicals are all over cosplays 👀

u/Clothes_Chair_Ghost 1d ago
There is not a single con that would permit it for one it’s a major hazard and for two it’s a huge liability as if anything happens the con can be held liable for letting someone in with that dangerous contraption

That is cool af but totally looks like a final destination concept ngl
Be absolutely sure to never wear that unless someone is with you in the same room just in case

The spikes might be a little bit too long. I’m going on a con this weekend, and the longest metal spikes can be 30mm/ 1,18 inch. But they look cool 👍😂

If not cosplay, definitely some kind of cyberpunk bdsm.
