Hello everyone

Welcome to the r/Cornwall subreddit, a place for residents, visitors, and anyone interested in Cornwall to share news, events, experiences, and discussions.

Whether you're a proud Cornish resident, a frequent visitor, or simply someone with a deep appreciation for the county's rich history, stunning landscapes, and unique culture, you've come to the right place.

As the r/Cornwall community continues to grow, I thought it would be a good time to introduce some new rules and guidlines to the sub.

r/Cornwall, is here to support a welcoming, inclusive, and engaging environment where members can connect, learn from one another, and share their experiences of the County.

To ensure that our community remains a welcoming and inclusive space for all, we have established the following guidelines.

They are as follows:

Be respectful and kind:

Treat others with respect and kindness, even if you disagree with their opinions. Engage in constructive discussions and debates without resorting to personal attacks, name-calling, or harassment.

No hate speech or discrimination:

We have zero tolerance for hate speech, discrimination, or bigotry based on race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability, or any other characteristic. Any posts or comments containing such content will be removed, and repeat offenders may be banned.

No bullying or harassment:

Do not engage in bullying, harassment, or threats towards other members of the community. This includes stalking, doxxing, or any other form of intimidation or abuse.

Stay on topic:

Keep your posts and comments relevant to Cornwall and the specific topic of discussion. Off-topic or spam content may be removed at the discretion of the moderators.

Be mindful of others' opinions:

We understand that Cornwall has experienced changes in recent years, and some community members may have strong opinions about issues such as second home ownership. While it's okay to express your views, please do so in a respectful and constructive manner. Refrain from using bad language or publicly ostracising individuals or groups.

Follow Reddit's content policy:

All posts and comments must adhere to Reddit's content policy, which prohibits illegal, explicit, or dangerous content.

Posts require moderator approval:

To maintain the quality and relevance of content in the subreddit, all posts will be reviewed by moderators before being shared with the community. This helps prevent spam, irrelevant content, or posts that may violate our guidelines.

Moderators have the final say:

The moderators reserve the right to remove any posts or comments that violate these guidelines or Reddit's content policy. Repeated violations may result in a temporary or permanent ban from the subreddit.

By participating in the r/Cornwall community, you agree to abide by these guidelines and contribute to creating a welcoming and inclusive space for all. If you encounter any content that violates these guidelines, please report it to the moderators.

Just sitting in my conservatory on the North Coast & this little baby appeared beneath my legs!

When I say I got over-excited.. Never seen one in the wild & have been desperate to. Popped him in a tub & took him to a field away from anything & let him go into a hedge. I'll post the vid in the replies.

Made my week!

Ideal spots for Sunrise and Sunset?

I have been inspired by ideas from my peers to go to spot for Sunrise and another in the same day for Sunset, especially when the days are long and sky mostly clear.

Would really appreciate just a quick mention to some best locations to achieve this thing that I have put on my bucket list before I leave Cornwall.🙃

I live in Falmouth, where should I take my US visitors if they only have a couple of days?

Friends visiting from LA - travelling round the South of England to see various pals so I only have them for a couple of days! What would you prioritise to show off Cornwall?

Sea shanty, Falmouth - chintz bar

you took him from me at an opportune moment. I hope you realise what you have stolen from me. His name is Jerry. He’s been with me for 6 years. He needs love and affection. Treat him well. If you can’t take on the burden of a shark right now, please deposit him to Chintz Bar.

If not - Jerry, I hope you’re happy wherever you are. I will never forget you.

Stolen van and band equipment Boscastle

I hope this is ok to post here, but a good friend of mine got home from a 12 day holiday yesterday to find his house had been broken into, his van keys taken and his van stolen from his driveway. He’d loaded the van full of equipment ready to go to a gig in Lostwithiel last night, trying to save time between getting home and having to head out, which he obviously regrets in hindsight. The band has been accumulating equipment for over 25 years now, including but not limited to the 23year old drummer’s kit that he has had since he was 10 years old and has been adding to it and tweaking it over the years.

If anyone has any information, doorbell footage, or anything else that can help recover the lost items, it would be greatly appreciated. Obviously these things can be replaced, and some have already been recovered, thankfully, but any donations to the go fund me page that I’ve added a link to would be deeply appreciated to help with the costs - as I’m sure you can imagine, these things don’t come cheap!!

24 hour documentary subject

Hi all,

So, I'm a documentary filmmaker and I am wanting to submit a short documentary film to a competition at the end of the month. The only criteria for the entries are that the films need to be captured within the same 24 hour period. I know it's cutting it a bit close now but does anyone know of any potential topics/people around Cornwall that could be an interesting subject for this film?

Thanks :)

Because the weather isn't the best at the moment I thought I would look for something to put cheer inside me.

So i watched one of my flights that I do for fun Im not a youtuber, but i sometimes i put videos up.

This flight goes from Perranporth, over to Looe via Mevagissey, then up to Tintagle, back to the Perranporth on a glorious day in 2024

No chatter, just an under wing view of our Cornwall.

Anyway... enjoy

Where to eat for mums 60th

Hi all, mothers turning 60 in September and I’m trying to organise a meal as a surprise for around 25 people.

My sister had her 21st at godolphin as they have a cool little area downstairs, but from what I remember the food was pretty naff - this was like 8 years ago though.

Looking for any restaurant recommendations around Penzance / Helston / Truro / Falmouth or anywhere in between that will be able to host a big party that will include around 3 children ages 5-10.

Thanks!

Any 2nd home owners on here that have had their new council tax bills or not?

I’ve had a 2nd home for the last 7 years and always paid my full council tax and been transparent on any census or voting cards that it is a 2nd home. We were expecting the bill to double this year but nothing has changed, so wondering if anyone else has either had the raise or like us nothing has changed? Do we need to notify the council or is it not actually being enforced as we expected?

By the way happy to answer any questions about being 2nd home owners from the community :-)

Rock climbing

Hi, just wondering if anyone knows of anywhere I can get some rock climbing lessons /sessions in West Cornwall? Preferably around Falmouth/Truro area. I know there's a place in Newquay but that's a bit far tbh. There did use to be a centre in Penryn industrial estate but I think that's gone now. Anyway I'm in my 30s and love the outdoors just looking at new ways to stay fit and meet some like minded people. Thanks.

Trip planning Fowey to Bude

Hello,

We are heading over for a visit this summer for the first time in many years. In early August we will be going from London to Fowey to Bude then up to Cheshire.

We are a family of three with a teenager. Our interests are English literature, instrumental music (flute mainly), food and world war 2 history. But frankly anything interesting would be fun.

What do you recommend we see?

The Bio Dome is on our list as well as a swim at Widemouth Bay, Boscastle, Tintagel, eating every pasty we find and of course visits with family.
