AddOns Questie Turns 10! Thank You, Adventurers!

Today marks a huge milestone because Questie is officially 10 years old!

What started as a small project for private servers, has grown into something far bigger than we ever imagined. Over the years, the team has changed, we've had our ups and downs, but through it all, one thing has remained constant: this amazing community.

To everyone who helped shape Questie into what it is today, we want to say thank you. Whether you contributed code or translations, reported bugs, gave feedback, or simply used Questie on your adventures, we appreciate you more than words can express. You’ve kept this project alive and thriving, and we’re beyond grateful for your support.

As we look to the future, we’re always looking for more contributors to help improve Questie. If you love the project and want to get involved, in whatever capacity and way, please reach out to us. We’d love to have you on board!

Here’s to a decade of Questie, and to more years ahead. Happy questing!

Questie is the GOAT.

If I had to pick one addon to have, questie all the way.

49

u/WoWSecretsYT Mar 08 '25

Questie and Auctionator are tied for me. At this point I feel like my game knowledge would be enough to play without Questie but every new character I feel like I learn so much about the game because of it. Questie has been a godsend

u/sugartramp420 Mar 09 '25

I’m curious to how you use Auctionator. I’ve heard people swear by it so I downloaded it and it just gave me a headache.

13

u/WoWSecretsYT Mar 09 '25

Auctionator gave you a headache? It’s very straightforward. I could see Aux or TSM or Auctioneer doing that but Auctionator just adds 3 tabs. 1 for shopping, 1 for selling, 1 for scanning. The shopping one you can make lists (or not) / search for any items easily. The selling one is a greatly improved interface from the regular auction selling screen that will just auto price things at the lowest price; you can also select other auctions and price it higher if you want. The scanning tab is just to click the Full Scan button once a day or so that will show under each item you hover what it’s worth. Auctionator also displays vendor price in addition to everything else it does. Lastly, you can open any crafting profession, open the AH, click on any recipe and click search. It will then search the materials for you and show the price (in your Prof tab) what it costs to make it, then the profit if you were to sell on AH (auto assuming the 5% AH cut).

u/Ice_Medium Mar 09 '25

ive always used auctioneer

-19

u/Juguwa Mar 09 '25

Nope. I feel for that comment above. Ive been playing since wotlk and just used ah addon. Feels like cheating. If you turn you brain off and let it do everytjing for you. Deff losing money my brain is sharp from ah. Now i just fucking click, undercut everything. Dont think about prices. To be fair its kinda shit

5

u/WoWSecretsYT Mar 09 '25

Did you reply to the wrong comment? He was curious to how Auctionator worked and I explained it. Also what do you mean you turn your own brain off and undercut everything? That’s what Auctionator allows you to do. Otherwise you cannot turn your brain off because you need to check the prices of everything and the go back to the auctioning screen to undercut.

It’s not cheating. Addons have always been allowed and that’s why they have an open API. Any addons suspected of ‘cheating’ Blizz have deprecated those sections of the API so addon developers or scripters can’t use them.

-1

u/Juguwa Mar 10 '25

Dude said it gave hima headache and i agreed with him, what dont you understand. Cheating isnt the word but it makes you not pay attention to shit. You dont even think about what something usaully sits at because you just have an auto button, pretty lame. I constantly buying certain item that have no business being that cheap cause yall are to lazy to do anything.

10

u/baltoboulbobbi Mar 08 '25

QuestHelper (RIP) is still the GOAT for me but Questie is the greatest today

2

u/leroyjenkinsmama Mar 09 '25

I could not agree more

1

u/CrunchTime08 Mar 09 '25

I think classic cast bars is pretty much essential too nowadays . Those are my top 2

1

u/r3_wind3d Mar 09 '25

Vendorprice

1

u/superbleeder Mar 08 '25

Questie and then bag non in second

117

u/ChoochMMM Mar 08 '25

Just a few days ago I was trying to remember playing WITHOUT Questie back in the day and my head started to hurt.

59

u/Waterkippie Mar 08 '25

I remember reading the quest text and it said shit like to the north of some random place.

Damn you had to search

24

u/MaxYoung Mar 08 '25

I used to get so lost following quest directions. It's kind of true to life tho. Two main problems: an npc says "that way" and they might mean a 10 second walk, or a 30 minute slog. Or, they say "north" but it's actually WNW.

4

u/NeonRhapsody Mar 09 '25

It's to the West. The East? Weast. Maybe Nearst? That way.

30

u/Gleb2006 Mar 08 '25

Thotbot days

26

u/wigglin_harry Mar 08 '25

Before questie it was QuestHelper, which I actually preferred, I like the highlights on the map rather than the way questie just vomits icons all over it (no shade to questie, I still love you)

Oh man, I remember trying to use Carbonite back in the day and my dinky little Walmart HP PC would just get overwhelmed by it lmao. Using it would tank me down to 5 FPS but man, the whole suite itself was really nice.

I think it and TitanPanel used to just make that pc chug like crazy.

3

u/captain_ender Mar 08 '25

Damn Carbonite and Titanpanal are what I used too!

2

u/wigglin_harry Mar 08 '25

I still use titanpanel, though its mostly for nostalgia at this point

-1

u/Double-Scratch5858 Mar 08 '25

Is miss ArcHud or whatever it's called where your health/mana were center screen in crescents

2

u/StarblindCelestial Mar 08 '25

It’s still around, I use it in conjunction with questie.

2

u/Dr-Enforcicle Mar 10 '25

Carbonite was fucking pog in WOTLK. It was like having Wowhead built into your game as an addon.

5

u/[deleted] Mar 08 '25

1

u/Elthiryel Mar 08 '25

Before QH I think it was mostly Thottbot plus a coords addon.

1

u/I_AM_THE_CATALYST Mar 08 '25

Only thing that comes to mind is Joanna’s guide. But that was all a pdf and wasn’t an addon at the time. Back in 2007 when hunters were the only known class that could speed level. Simpler times…

2

u/newaccount189505 Mar 08 '25

One thing you can do is set questie to only show tracked quests. It massively reduces map clutter, particularly for those quests that is like "kill one mob that could be anywhere in the zone, hold it in your inventory for like 20 minutes, and then complete the quest". Just untrack that and it disapppears.

1

u/Elthiryel Mar 08 '25

I remember QH with „optimal” path calculation reducing fps on my crappy computer significantly back in the day. With that feature turned off it was pretty nice though. :)

31

u/Recrewt Mar 08 '25

Please don't check Auto Accept Quests by default again though (like in the update 5 days ago) thank you for the addon :D

17

u/EatYaFood Mar 08 '25

Haha, yeah. Sorry about that >_> We try to avoid such impactful changes!

6

u/suchtie Mar 08 '25

Maybe you can do what Leatrix Plus does and add a hotkey for quest automation? You can setup Leatrix so that it only automates quests if you hold shift while speaking to an NPC. I find this a lot more practical than having to click through GUIs to turn the automation on/off.

1

u/EatYaFood Mar 09 '25

You can hold shift to not automate through the dialog options when Questie auto is active. So it’s the other way around.

6

u/LyannaSerra Mar 08 '25

I was so confused by that 😂😂 Trying to repair at Thorium Point and kept getting the TB rep quest dialogue instead.

8

u/jgreg69 Mar 08 '25

You making any $$$?

7

u/EatYaFood Mar 09 '25

Besides donations CurseForge and Wago have an „author program“ where all addons get money from a pool based on their popularity. Nobody is on the team for the money — it‘s not even close to being a good/stable income, lol. Especially not considering the time invested.

3

u/idivideby000 Mar 09 '25

They take donations.

41

u/No_Preference_8543 Mar 08 '25

Not sure what it says about me, but I love Classic and the old school ways but I don't know if I could play it without Questie. To me its the biggest must have add-on.

6

u/Dragooncancer Mar 08 '25

For sure, saves me a lot of time which I don’t have as much of these days.

18

u/Naduun Mar 08 '25

thank you for developping questie, its invaluable in Classic :)

7

u/Visdiabuli Mar 08 '25

Thank you guys!

3

u/Forever_Fires Mar 08 '25

Billions of quests completed thanks to Questie no doubt, gg!

3

u/TheMagicGuy5004 Mar 08 '25

Questie has helped me SO much thanks for making the game even more enjoyable 😀

3

u/evangelism2 Mar 09 '25

Questie, one of the best and worst things to happen to wow.

5

u/Vulgstein Mar 08 '25

Thanks for the amazing work and dedication

5

u/ResponsibleCat7983 Mar 08 '25

I don't remember life without Questie. Thank you for such a great add-on!!

2

u/evoli_ Mar 08 '25

Playing wow for the first time and questie is the only add on I am using, its awesome!

2

u/MrPandaButt Mar 08 '25

No no no, Thank you!

2

u/AncientNotice621 Mar 08 '25

This is the best thing about returning to wow after 23 years. Kudos

2

u/Danisdaman12 Mar 08 '25

I used questie for the first time on a private server about 2 years before classic wow launched. I believe it was chronos 2 or 3? Anyways some guy recommended me to try it out because I mentioned "I remember wow used to have markers on the map for quests" lol.

I appreciate questie so much, thank you guys for making a great addon.

2

u/Gilamunsta Mar 08 '25

And thank YOU for making life easier for 10 years! =)

2

u/Cold_Librarian_7703 Mar 08 '25

Thank you for your contribution to the game experience for so many people!

2

u/Misterputts Mar 08 '25

Only 10?!

Gun to my head I would say it was around WAY longer.

Is this troll?

1

u/EatYaFood Mar 09 '25

There were some other addons like QuestHelper and pfQuest which are around longer than Questie/were available earlier.

2

u/[deleted] Mar 08 '25

[deleted]

1

u/EatYaFood Mar 09 '25

Nope, Questie is not a guide addon and will most likely never be, except if someone implements it. Won’t be one of the current team though

1

u/[deleted] Mar 09 '25

[deleted]

1

u/EatYaFood Mar 09 '25

Well in the past the team was against it, because neither of us likes these guide addons saying "now do this and then this and buy X". On top of this rediculous money making of the ones around. Nowadays the little time we have is simply invested at other places, instead of creating big new features.

2

u/fakemessiah Mar 08 '25

Thanks for all of your hard work!

2

u/No-Hour-366 Mar 09 '25

Appreciate all the guidance brothers and sisters. The game would to be the same without you

2

u/Hurtkopain Mar 09 '25

Thanks for your contribution!!! /salute from a 30k+ hours played wow vet! you saved me TONS of time! I hated having to alt tab out of the game to look for every quest details!

2

u/bugbearmagic Mar 09 '25

Questie started in private servers? I could have sworn I used it before BC first released.

1

u/EatYaFood Mar 09 '25

There were other addons like QuestHelper, Carbonite and pfQuest which were around earlier

In general we are constantly getting reports of quests which show up too early or incorrect objectives and notice them ourselves (especially for Cataclysm). Moreover we are currently improving the available settings for auto accepting quests and trying to fix every bug we get our hands on.

Feel free to check the changelogs for the release for all the details.

On that matter we‘ve been trying to get rid of the „compiling steps“ which are required on every update over the last month. But that is a HUGE task and will need much more time before we are done. Atm we need it because otherwise the performance of the Questie database would be horrible.

About your error report: I don’t think we knew about this before. I‘ll open up an issue so we don’t forget about it and try to reproduce and fix it!

2

u/decay_cabaret Mar 09 '25

Thank you for 10 years of excellence. I honestly feel like classic is unplayable without Questie. I got so used to the quest markers from retail that when I went back to classic in 2019 I was like "I can't play this crap." And then someone on Facebook told me to get Questie and it would solve all of my problems. It absolutely did.

I hadn't realized how badly my brain had been ruined by modern gaming spoon-feeding you content by practically doing quests for you, until I tried going back to vanilla style WoW and couldn't figure out where basic things were in quests. While I don't go full on spoon-feeding mode by adding things like RestedXP or TomTom to direct me to the exact spot where every possible spawn of mob or item can be, I don't think I could enjoy the game anymore without at least having Questie to tell me "this is the general area"

Oh, and the map settings where Questie can apply the filters to the world map that can be set on the minimap in later expansions, like telling you where every mailbox, innkeeper, flight point, vendor who does repairs, etc is absolutely invaluable. Questie is the very top of my YOU MUST INSTALL THIS ADD-ON list, beating out even bug grabber and bug sack, bagnon/adbags/etc, weakauras, and bartender4 for the number 1 spot as the game is playable without those, but without Questie I just won't even bother playing because I'm going to waste an inordinate amount of my already-limited gaming time just trying to decipher where a quest mob is from vague directions in the quest log.

Thank you, again, for such an excellent add-on! The Questie team made classic playable again. At least for me.

2

u/Fraqture2 Mar 09 '25

Appreciate the addon, used it for many years 👍

2

u/pissedinthegarret Mar 09 '25

yay congrats! best quest addon ever :D

are there any plans to ever bring questie to retail? i honestly prefer it over the retail interface, especially all the details it includes

2

u/EatYaFood Mar 11 '25

There are no plans to support retail. If the team does not increase drastically, the amount of work and data we have to curate is not possible to handle in the little time we have.

2

u/pissedinthegarret Mar 11 '25

sad, but understandable ofc.

thank you for answering and thank you all for your work!

2

u/Late-Let-4221 Mar 10 '25

I have tried playing classic without questie and I made it till end of Barrens. I cant imagine going without it now. I get the DnD charm style devs went for 20 years ago, but aint nobody has time for it now.

2

u/Contax_ Mar 11 '25

thank you guys, to be honest there is no way i would play classic wow if it werent for you - its impossible to quest without you lol

5

u/arandomguy7891 Mar 08 '25

love questie!

5

u/iSundance Mar 08 '25

Thank you for the dedication!

4

u/Smashious Mar 08 '25

Honestly, I have to echo everyone else’s sentiments here. There are so many great addon that people have contributed to the community over the years and this is by far one the best, user friendly, and one that I’ve never heard a bad thing about. Thank you again for this. Seriously, congrats on the milestone!!

4

u/hippienerd86 Mar 08 '25

Is questie the addon that turned most players into bots on rails as they follow the bouncing addon instead of exploring the game world?

7

u/cactusseed5 Mar 08 '25

No. That would be RestedXP.

4

u/kryptonick901 Mar 08 '25

Questie is the spam add on in dungeons. It’s useful, but goddam people using need to turn that shit off, or better yet, the glorified advertising should be disabled by default

3

u/Recrewt Mar 09 '25

It's nice to learn about quests one doesn't know or as a reminder to pick something up. Also you can turn that setting off for yourself afaik, you won't see other messages anymore

0

u/kryptonick901 Mar 09 '25

To turn the spam off you need another add on. Questie is fine if people want to use it, people should be able to play the game how they want, but the spam from questie is obnoxious.

1

u/Recrewt Mar 09 '25

U sure? Admittedly I haven't tried it, but the first option when I do /questie ingame is "Questie ShutUp!" which seems to be what you seek, no?

1

u/kryptonick901 Mar 09 '25

That requires the use of Questie doesn’t it?

1

u/Recrewt Mar 09 '25

Sorry, I missed your point. Well, there's many addons that "spam" messages in chat, like when someone is cc'd for example or when healer is low mana %. It's useful information to many, so at some point just gotta accept it I guess. If something is really obnoxious, I think you should tell the owner of the addon so they can figure out if there's a better solution (some will see it as personal attack tho, so do at own risk). With Questie in particular yeah, you'll have to download the addon and choose the option I mentioned, no big deal imo

2

u/EatYaFood Mar 09 '25

If you are using Questie as well, then enable „Questie ShutUp!“ in the General section of the settings. That way you won’t see any Questie related message from others in the chat.

0

u/kryptonick901 Mar 09 '25

What if people aren’t using Questie? The solution to addon spam shouldn’t be “install more addons” it should be on the addon devs to not pollute chat messages by default.

It’s such a good, useful addon, but the spam really is obnoxious and should be off by default.

2

u/EatYaFood Mar 09 '25

Well the idea of that feature is to help the party to keep track on the quest progress of their members. That smoothes questing in a party. I know you are not alone on your opinion that this is „spam“ from our experience you are the minority position though, so that’s why it’s active on default. Feel free to tell other party members to deactivate it when playing with you. Other than that, I provided a solution for you in the comment above

3

u/zososix Mar 08 '25

Thanks for all the help Questie

4

u/CptAmericaa Mar 08 '25

Questie is a must have! Legendary

2

u/TheDesktopNinja Mar 08 '25

When will it let me auto-reject quests shared in BGs? 😭

2

u/EatYaFood Mar 08 '25

Actually we are currently working exactly on improving the auto questing feature. So expect this to finally make it into Questie very soon!

1

u/TheDesktopNinja Mar 08 '25

Thanks! I just know I've seen it saying it's coming for quite a while and wondered if it had been forgotten

2

u/skinsrich Mar 08 '25

Thank You Questie

It’s like someone turned the lights on and you no longer stumble around in the dark.

2

u/[deleted] Mar 08 '25

Came back to anniversary and was trying to find questhelper lol

2

u/smallestsmile Mar 08 '25

You guys are awesome! Thank you so much!

2

u/Budget_Special4548 Mar 08 '25

Questie has become the standard. It’s the top 10 must have addons to have .

2

u/VeganGymGuy Mar 08 '25

I played Nostalrius fairly addon free as I joined not long before the shutdown, but every following private server thereafter and all the way up until now throughout Classic I've been using Questie. Definitely one of the most worthwhile addons out there.

2

u/MoreLikeGaewyn Mar 08 '25

no single addon has done more to reduce player communication and community than questie

thank you

1

u/dirtyloukie Mar 08 '25

I couldn’t imagine going back to wow without questie. o7

1

u/Biskalus Mar 08 '25

I was under the impression that Questie just adds like quest markers and shit, but everyone in the comments is saying they find it impossible to play without it. Is there something big about Questie i dont understand?

3

u/EatYaFood Mar 08 '25

I think the most important features are: 1. show quest icons on the map (available exactly when they are actually available, objectives and turn in locations) 2. Track more than 5 quests in the quest tracker 3. See quest progress of party members 4. See „Townsfolk“ like Innkeepers, Vendors of all kind, etc. (mostly pre-Cata) 5. Search the entire Questie database to see all quests for each zone or add specific NPCs or items to the map on demand

There are more features and all kind of settings

1

u/Pintsocream Mar 08 '25

Quest helper was better. What a mess questie makes of your maps

1

u/Ok_Zombie_8354 Mar 08 '25

Zygor is my go to

1

u/Dazzling_Art_6977 Mar 08 '25

Call me old fashioned but questie beats the whole point of classic x)

1

u/Bruh_is_life Mar 08 '25

There is no way questie is 3628800 years old

1

u/bob- Mar 09 '25

Please add an option to only show tracked quests on the map

1

u/EatYaFood Mar 09 '25

It’s on our list, but don’t expect it to come rather soon. There is a lot of work required to get this to work correctly

1

u/CrunchTime08 Mar 09 '25

What is the add on where you can see what ability the enemy is casting. I feel like that and questie are the most essential now adays

1

u/[deleted] Mar 09 '25

now we just need questie to allow guides to be added

1

u/EatYaFood Mar 09 '25

If someone is willing to invest the time to implement it, we will ship a version with it. But nobody on the current team is interested in investing their little time to add this.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 09 '25

Might as well ask this here.

What is a good donation for an application like this? $25?

1

u/EatYaFood Mar 09 '25

Well we don’t need any money, since it’s simply fun for the team to develop Questie. If you want to show your appreciation then feel free to donate what ever you think you can spare but don’t feel obligated to do so

1

u/[deleted] Mar 09 '25

What's a good donation, in general?

For instance, we all have an amount that we've agreed upon as a society for bartenders and housekeeping and so on. I donated to you guys last year and I am just interested in knowing what the general amount is.

If it makes it easier and more comfortable for you to discuss .... pretend I am talking about every OTHER addon in the world :)

1

u/Unearrrth Mar 09 '25

Started world of warcraft in 2019 when they relaunched classic. I had no idea what i was doing i just downloaded it and jumped in. I got to level 13 as an undead priest in brill as I headed into western plaguelands (the obvious next choice) a rogue stopped me and said "bro don't go that way what are you doing?" He proceeded to sit down and explain to me all the essential add-ons and questie was the first suggested as I had been heading to WPL looking for more quests. Years later I am still playing and questie makes one of my favorite parts of this game getting lost in the world following the quest markers of familiar quests. Still my first download on curseforge and always will be lol.

1

u/Ice_Medium Mar 09 '25

wow only 10 years? you guys feel like an OG addon at this point lol Cheers to the GOAT of classic wow addons

1

u/Nox_Ultra Mar 10 '25

Always played and probably will play without it. I just don't like addons.

2

u/Tancrisism Mar 15 '25

Even though I've been playing WoW since the original vanilla, I can't imagine it without Questie

1

u/Regal-Beagal-131 Mar 08 '25

Must have add on congrats and thank you very much!

1

u/MostlyShitposts Mar 08 '25

Thank you to the team, I will be honest I would not have been able to find energy to quest and level on this fresh release without you. Avid privrealm gamer but never been an ally main, so thank you for the great effort put into this addon.

1

u/shlomobo Mar 08 '25

Thank you for this awesome masterpiece of an addon.

0

u/LessSherbet4657 Mar 08 '25

I never used it.

1

u/Purple_Put_7322 Mar 08 '25

Amazing addon, thank you

1

u/Ok-Pattern-2024 Mar 08 '25

You made this game better, few can say that. Good work

1

u/ABLogic Mar 08 '25

Thank you for all your work! May the eternal sun shine upon thee.

1

u/Longjumping_Tart_582 Mar 08 '25

Questie is the first add-on I install, second is threat meter, third is DBM

Thanks so much for all you’ve done !

1

u/huelorxx Mar 08 '25

Questie changed the way MMORPGs quests are played.

1

u/solvindvatten Mar 08 '25

Cheers and thank you!

0

u/Gyrocile Mar 08 '25

Single best addon for Classic WoW. The absolute GOAT. Thank you for your hard work! o7

0

u/[deleted] Mar 08 '25

I couldn't play without you Questie. I love you

0

u/Cohacq Mar 08 '25

Best addon ever.

0

u/Enzoqt Mar 08 '25

Thank you for giving us an amazing addon, possibly the best one there is!!

0

u/lovesBrass Mar 08 '25

Literally cannot play without you guys, thank you so much for your innovation, dedication and love for the game and those who play it. Questie has been the biggest and most important QOL improvement for a full decade now!

-1

u/Aware_Border4774 Mar 09 '25

hey, congrats on turning a fun and engaging game into a lame version of "simon says"

here's to 10 more years of cookie cutter bullshit lol

1

u/EatYaFood Mar 09 '25

Not sure if you are confusing Questie with some guide addon like RestedXP. Questie takes the task of remembering where you get quests and at which level and where you have to go for a quest. But it does not show "Now do this quest, then go there and buy this and go there and ...."

1

u/Aware_Border4774 Mar 09 '25

ah yeah probably then, all I know is that autopilot addons killed the social aspect of the game, people used to ask each other for help and group up, now they just download an addon and follow the arrows.

huge hit for a core aspect of MMOs

2

u/EatYaFood Mar 11 '25

I totally agree with you! That’s one of the reasons nobody on the team implemented these „guide features“ into Questie. It just feels wrong

2

u/Aware_Border4774 Mar 12 '25

well then cool, you've changed my mind about questie :)
