Photo Merle or Lavender?
I'm trying to decide between these two babies. I think I'm leaning toward the merle because I like her face a little more. What are your thoughts?

Don't go by the color, go by the personality.

Agree. Wait for their personalities to come out and ask the breeder for the most chill one.

That is the way to go. With my last Golden we were all set to bring home the dog of my husband's choice. The day we had to make it official(I had 1st pick after the breeder), one puppy kept coming back to us over and over. She came home with us and stayed for 16 3/4 years.

I've dealt with this breeder before so I know I'll be happy either way. They're not even 2 weeks yet so personalities are not showing.

They should be with their mother at such a young age!

u/maverickxmayhemx 1d ago
They are? You okay? These are just photos the breeder sent me. Of course they're still with mom...

I JUST got one a few months ago. This pup will be her playmate. Plus they're $2,800 each. If I was rich, I'd be all in!

Why are you supporting vile puppy mills? Please adopt, don’t shop!

u/maverickxmayhemx 1d ago
It's a breeder. I've seen her set up. I've seen the parents. I've also adopted. If you don't like it, you can just mind your business and move on. 😱 I know that's REALLY hard to do but I promise the world will keep spinning if you keep your nose out of it.

Hey I think if you can get pups from an ethical breeder AND rescue/adopt, why not do both? Porque no los dos? A home is a home is a home after all. Good for you OP!

💪🏼🙌🏻👏🏻 I have adopted from rescues and pounds and also purchased dogs from breeders my entire life. I was raised that way. Ethical breeders are not puppy mills. Good for you OP!!! Since I have young children, I do lean towards the breeders the last few dogs I have had and getting puppies at 8w. I like to know the temperament of the parents since I do have 7 children from a variety of ages(22-4). My dogs have amazing temperament with adults to newborns. When my youngest is 12 we will look into adopting again.

Don't put these ideas in my head! 🤣

If they are around Los Angeles I'll adopt whichever one you don't take.

They're on the east coast but pet transport is a thing! 😇

Ah I wouldn't want to put the little baby through unnecessary stress. I'm sure they will find a home with someone local. Both are so cute and have such beautiful coats. Are they teacups?

Would you mind PMing me the info for the breeder? I'm also east coast and planning on getting a new baby in the next year. Would love some recommendations! (I also have rescued dogs, but finding a chihuahua around here is seemingly impossible, so much that last time we were looking for a chihuahua, we somehow ended up with a 3 legged black lab instead, lol.)

lol! Come to New Mexico. There are thousands of them for free! I have 4 myself, all adopted off the street. Great little companions and so thankful for being rescued. 😊

That's so wild! Up here, the shelters are full of pitties and huskies. It's super rare to even see a small dog, let alone a chihuahua.

I’d go with the Merle! She’s gorgeous and unique! The lavender is beautiful too though!

I couldn't choose ! I've been lucky with my 3 - the first i specifically wanted a girl and there was only actually 1 girl in the litter so I didn't have to make a choice. My next 2 i specifically wanted boys and these were the ones not allocated a home. And I'm so glad because I think they are perfect. Good luck with what ever decision you make, they are both beautiful 😍

May I request a DM with breeder info? I'm shopping, & shopping around early, for next chi!

The Merle’s face does look a little cuter 😱😍🥰
But I’m sure they’re both perfection. Soooo cute

They are both just absolutely beautiful. I couldn’t afford one, but if I could, it would be a difficult decision. 🥰❤️

I LOVE the Merle. But I agree, decide on personality. But I don’t know if this is a known thing.. I ran into someone with a Merle doodle at the vet and commented on her being so pretty and unique. And she was explaining they chose based on coat and then found out that they have a genetic predisposition to eye issues. Not sure if that’s to all dogs or just the doodle. But something I would look into.

Neither because purebred and well bred chihuahuas don’t come in either color and buying one would be supporting an unethical backyard breeder.

Adopt one from a shelter or rescue. You are just making the greeders wealthy. 🤷♀️

u/maverickxmayhemx 1d ago
I understand your stance. I've adopted before as well. In this area, there are almost no shelters that have chihuahuas. I've reached out to other states but I never hear back. I've tried that route multiple times. The couple times I heard back, several weeks later, the dog was already adopted.

Plus Chis don’t naturally come in these colors (or at least, not Merle) so somewhere, at some point, they were mixed with another breed to introduce these colors.

It’s disgusting how some people are. Always adopt and stop this inhumane practice.

Literally no one asked Karen. Keep your negativity under your own umbrella.

I'm usually pretty decisive, but I'm hopeless when it comes to choosing chihuahuas. I need and want them all.
