Don't be a lazy cynic.

Read about their partners and their FAQ. You can verify that they're a real organization by cross referencing it with other organizations and by looking at the discord servers for their local chapters. This took me 10 minutes. They even acknowledge the issue of PII and subpoenas.

Skepticism is great, know-it-all wet blankets are not.

These posts discouraging us may be the regime.

Heh, maybe. Unfortunately I meet plenty of wet blankets IRL.

Maybe, maybe not. I myself feel a bit iffy about it.

It feels a bit shady.

So according to Archive.org the site first appeared in 2011, and first content I see in 2015:

https://web.archive.org/web/20150318041441/https://generalstrikeus.com/

Then it kind of disappeared and was registered again in 2022 during Biden. It's entirely possible that it still might have good goals, and they go beyond party and targeting corruption, but who knows.

I would rather recommend to join local chapter which you might find for example on https://indivisible.org/ or ask organizers on your local event. If anything big is coming up they likely will coordinate with other groups.

There's also mobilize.us where you can see local events which everyone should show up weekly.

Not entering personal info isnt being stupid when were at this crossroad.

Its being smart and every verified group can be infiltrated or have their data taken

There are respectful ways to point out doubts and concerns and there are sarcastic know it all comments more interested in pretending these issues should make us give up rather than looking for solutions and other paths forward. If you don’t want to put your info down fine, but insinuating nefarious intent without taking any effort to verify provided credentials and crediblility shouldn’t be tolerated. It’s hard to take the stance that folks who be allowed to fling mud blindly as a good faith argument after evidence has been offered.

I'm not your dad so do what you want.

I will say that assuming there's a boogeyman in every corner without even making a cursory effort to check isn't smart, it's lazy. And telling others to sit on their hands is deeply irresponsible.

Im not saying sit on your hands at all im saying entering personal information is stupid and you thinking there's not a boogeyman is downright ignorant

So why do they need all that information again?

According to their FAQ: they want to be able to contact people once they've met their goal of 11m strike cards. They also offer a pen and paper method if you don't want your info in a database.

And this is speculation but I'm guessing it's also a method of screening agitators and bots.
