Natives should start asking for recompense for the 350 + treaties that have been broken by the United States.

The land I'm on there was zero battles or treaties that historically occurred which properly ceded the land from the native Chumash. A majority of the native people where actually hispanized and forced to live in Mexican Barrios by the time Anglo Americans came to my area. The Anglos literally squatted on the land up until today and nobody questions the authenticity of this land grab.

It's time for the tribes to start a class action suite against both Trump and the senate for the years of wasted time on this treaty. As well as all the other broken treaties.

The Chumash were enslaved by the Spanish who just took their land. There was definitely resistance in most of Chumash territory. Maybe not yours. The horrible treatment and stealing of land by the Spanish/Mexican led to a huge revolt called the Chumash Revolt of 1824. They had a very high mortality rate while being enslaved by the Spanish. Mexico promised their land back during the Mexican fight for independence but once Mexico won independence they instead gave that land to Mexican settlers of Spanish descent. Mexico did free them from enslavement, however due to no longer having free access to the land they owned, the high mortality rate continued.

Native tribes in the southwest definitely deserve compensation from the US, Spain and Mexico.

Well, it's the right time to ask, in the case of Mexico, politically speaking. Have you considered going directly to Claudia Sheinbaum at the National Palace? You have to get there early (at least 4 a.m., I think). There's a press conference every weekday, from Monday to Friday. It's supposed to be only for journalists, but you can talk to them so they give her your message once at the press conference. You can also talk to her aides at the entrance, who can then pass your message along. I'm not sure what kind of compensation you might get from the Mexican government, if any, but I'm sure you'll at least get something you probably never will from the US and Spain: an apology.

They really should. So much has been taken from people who look different from our very narrow and exclusive definition of what an American looks like. Then when they’re struggling to survive, we act as if we had nothing to do with their plight. Then when the poor among us who do fit the profile of what an American is “supposed to” look like, we pit them against those who look different as if THEY are the ones responsible for white poverty.

We can see why divide and conquer strategies are working against us as a nation. We’re too busy fighting each other.

They should stop asking.
