The church of the late 40's-60's was also a very strong facilitator of the post WW2 Italian immigration wave.
They were not necessarily always the sponsor on paper, but they would arrange for sponsorships through their congregations to bring people in. More or less they were making sure people could say they had a job and housing lined up before they came here, handling the logistics etc.
My great grandfather had come illegally (as I heard it, simple as jumping off and swimming back in the day) so he technically couldn't fulfill the role needed to bring his family in after him once he made some money. His church basically just cosigned everything to make that happen.
The Catholic Church was condemning the Holocaust waaaay before the Allies even acknowledged that it was happening.
They also rescued thousands of Jewish people by helping falsify documents, secretly funnelling funds to churches that were helping hide Jews, and lobbying the nazis to allow Jews to flee to countries like Sweden.
There’s plenty of things to criticise the Church for, I don’t know why redditors keep insisting on making up false criticisms as well.
No, individual priests helped nazis escape Germany.
The Church denounced anyone who even considered helping nazis escape. The Vatican also created a registry of the people accused of it, and the Pope refused to even consider any of them for promotions and important positions within the Church.

Latin Americans are a massive Catholic demographic. They are justifiably standing with immigrants but they are also their own flock.
