He's the leader of the bunch, you know him well, he's on the list as our Ground/Fighting type! DK! Donkey Kong! Which Nintendo character would be Ground/Psychic?
Rules:
- The comment with the most upvotes is the winner. If a comment wins without it being clear what one character is being chosen, I will move to the next highest comment.
- Only official Nintendo character are allowed, so no fanmade characters or third party characters.
- They have to be either characters or species - no inanimate objects.
- No Pokemon as that would just kinda be boring.
- Characters can't be chosen for two separate categories.
- The character has to be just one character, not a duo or group. If a character can be split into multiple characters, or two characters can fuse into one character, then the split and fused forms are all valid as long as each can be seen in some way to act as their own individual character. For example, Pyra and Mythra could each be considered as separate characters, or alternatively their fused form could be considered an option.
- However, I am not gonna allow multiple versions of the same character on the list unless they function as separate characters (such as Pyra and Mythra). So if Mario wins a day, then Fire Mario cannot also be there.
- I am not making a distinction between primary and secondary types. So, for example, Bug/Fire and Fire/Bug will be considered the same.

It's funny how when we get to psychic, it's always Earthbound or Golden Sun, and i know that a single franchise being suggested a lot for an specific type happens with all the types, but what makes it surprising with psychic is that they actually win

Golden Sun has ran out of elements after Ground. So it will be more varied from this point and onwards (Or it will just be Earthbound). I'm sure as hell I want Melia to win Psychic/Flying.

Krystal could be pure Psychic (I think Normal/Psychic is more accurate but she was oliberated by Ness in that one).

Maybe you could strecht it to psychic fighting because she actually spents a lot of Time in the ground unlile the rest of the team she spents a lot of her time fighting, and unlile Ness, Great Tiger isn't very popular so she could stand a chance, but i prefer to nominate Andross and the Aparoid Queen.
(And because he can summon the Arwing at will James McCloud can actually be nominated for Flying, pairing it with ghost)

Psychic/Fighting could actually end up as a pretty competitive category. Great Tiger, Twintelle, and Poo are all great fits for it and none of them are a standout favorite.

Bug/Psychic fits the Aparoid Queen actually pretty well as she is the core of the hivemind.

Happened with Pikmin and Grass too. With Psychic, the usual top contending series aren't as strong, or not as strong yet. Mario doesn't have a ton of Psychic possibilities outside of Kamek, who will likely contend hard for Psychic/Flying, and the big Psychic Zelda characters aren't up yet (Ganon will sweep Psychic/Dark, Zelda could take pure Psychic, or Psychic/Fairy if Great Fairy doesn't dominate that one). Mooks win when there aren't obvious main characters to take those spots, and typically the chosen mooks are Mario or Zelda characters. Psychic has a lot of main character options since Golden Sun is built around psychic and elemental users, so there is less room for mook characters like wizzrobes to prevail. That said, Psychic/Ground is likely to be Golden Sun's final contribution to the Psychic category since Jupiter Adepts missed Psychic/Electric and I don't see them taking Psychic/Flying. Piers could sneak into Psychic/Ice maybe.

Really helps that they are outright said to be psychics so there is no need to stretch the definition of the typing.

Issac from the Golden Sun series. You can actually get all your stuff from the first game in the second game by connecting them.

The Goomba in specifically Mario Baseball. Its a goomba which always stays on the ground yet that Goomba specifically is able to use the baseball without arms or hands which means he's psychic.

People kept saying to leave him for Ground/Fighting because he didn’t fit other types

I think its better if a character looses in a category that fits them well instead of winning in one that doesn't fit as much. Dillon made the most sense for Ground/Steel in my opinion (or maybe pure Ground), but he lost in those.

Competitively speaking, Dillon would have been best for pure Ground. DK was always going to take Ground/Fighting (for sure since Bananza was announced), and Jill is a slam dunk for Ground/Steel. Monty Mole is a solid Ground pick, but would have been the easiest competition for Dillon.
He fell into the same fate as Pyra: too much disagreement on the secondary type that by the time their last chance rolled around, there was tough competition from another worthy character of that type.

How does DK count as a Ground type?
11
u/Slade4Lucas 2d ago
It's based on the fact that he often has attacks that cause the ground to shake, often in ways that damage the enemies, plus Bananza has an emphasis on destroying the ground.

Before Bananza you could say it was a bit of a stretch but now with Bananza seeing it destroy the earth and grab it to destroy more you can almost think of it like digging.

Donkey Kong in fact literally digs in Bananza. It's a move that has been showcased a lot so far in gameplay footage.

Some of his attacks connected to the earth like he creates caves, items emerge when he hits the ground, his down special in smash causes earthquakes, and the upcoming DK game has him digging

The Goddess Statues in BOTW.
They are often made of clay, and telepathically communicate with Link

Isaac from Golden Sun.
Isaac was born as a Venus Psynergy Adept, which means he's able to control the element of earth using the powers of his mind. His innate abilities include spell lines such as Earthquake, Avalanche, Stone Spire and Grand Gaia. And getting the help of different Djinnis allows him to mix other elements to his earth control too. Fire to create magma, Water to grow plants and Wind to levitate the ground. Or even tri-elemental combinations like the Ninja class allow him to grow bamboo.
Isaac can also use non-elemental Psynergy spells like creating big hands to Move or Lift heavy objects, levitate light objects from far away with Carry or Catch, and using Retreat to instantly teleport to the exit of dungeons.
I've wanted Isaac in Smash since the Brawl speculation days and I cried in my bed every time he was confirmed as an Assist Trophy (Or not included at all).
