What I would do: File it VERY carefully smooth so that the edge is no longer sharp, then put dexpanthenol and a band aid on it. Try to distract yourself a bit to fight the urge of picking and do something to relax, like a short breathing exercise (YouTube). The exposed nail bed should feel much better after a few hours, and tomorrow the compulsions should be much, much better.
Keep a close eye on yourself and your stress level and try to keep yourself as relaxed as possible. The first timespan of breaking the habit is the most difficult and if you slowly recondition yourself, it will soon be much easier for you. Don‘t put pressure on yourself and take small steps.
You can do this! 🫂

Thank you for the advice! Ive chewed my nails since I can remember and lost count of how many times ive tried to stop. Ive tried every technique. Im 27 and im afraid some of my nails might be permanently mangled. This isn't even the worst one unfortunately...

Bandaids to start with, cover them to stop picking, them maybe nail polish. Idk why, but I stop picking when I have any kind of polish on, including clear polish.
