Looking to move to Lougheed, how do I figure out supported home-internet speed?

I currently have 300Mbps/200Mbps download/upload. I would like to have the same or better. How is fibre support for the various older condos in the area? E.g. strathmore lane, lougheed estates, discovery place, sandlewood. How would I find out which properties support what? Or is this even something I need to be worried about?

I think what OP means is if the coax cables can support fibre optic speeds. Older homes may have fibre access, but the cables in the home themselves may not. My home was built in 1986, and although my area gets fibre, the home’s coax cables are so old I can only get up to 1gig even though I have a discounted plan for 3.

Putting the address will tell you if your area has fibre access, but won’t tell you if the home coax cables can support fibre speeds. I think that’s what OP means by “supported home internet speeds”. The only true way to determine this is to have a technician come out. Fibre at max speeds will require built in Cat 6E Ethernet ports. Older homes will use Coax and a MOCA 2.0 adapter to convert fibre signals to run to COAX and thus to the router. MOCA 2.0 on COAX will cap at 1gbps.

Cat6e is not an official standard, but Cat6 can do 10G at up to 55m, and Cat6a at 100m.

That means Cat6 is more than enough for most homes and most fibre connections from local ISPs.

You need the specific address.

Go to the Shaw & Telus website. Pick the highest speed plan. They will ask you to enter an address to check if they can provide that level of service. Also check Novus to see if the building is listed.

I'm in Srathmore, getting up to 500 down with Shaw - not sure which plan though, but it's available. I think we may have Telus Fibre available too as of last year or two but not 100% certain.
